signed bands represent! my GBA-400 got signed and now that watch is easily one of my favourites, even though i can't wear it! the memory of meeting the man who engineered the first g shocks is more valuable to me than any money the signature is worth.

I read about this Ginza store back when Baselworld was going on and it was a surprise to me that the service station was something unique about this store. I thought all G-Shock stores in Japan had those so that was a surprise to me! I must say 3000 JPY is rather expensive though! Here in Sweden battery change is 2000 JPY. As for me I always change battery myself since I enjoy doing them and want full control of my watches.
Actually the costs for the battery switch is about 1000yen only. The balance is the fees for the water pressure test. Maybe to maintain their quality standard. If you take care of your watches as most collectors do. Then we are fine. But for most regular user who beat their watch. That process is crucial to be done. Depends on persons/funds but do keep in mind that the quality test is a must for all g-shocks in the first place.
Wait, you guys don't wear your G-shock they way it's intended to be? These watches are meant to take the beating of everyday life and work. I wear my ga100 1a1 at work, at home and in places I go.

Man, Japan has everything. We need more G Shock stores in America. I'm definitely gonna check this place out one day. I myself own the Japanese Mudmaster GWG 1000, so I have a little bit of Japan in my G Shock collection.

Visit all the official retail stores, the address in on their website.
I would recommend you to visit tax free shops instead though, much cheaper deals.
Can you advise why on earth changing battery takes 1 hour?
My guess is that it is all just to not rush them doing their job. Battery switch and water pressure test/inspection. By the way, they'll also check if they're anything that is not right while replacing the battery for you, kinda like a watch 'overhaul' service.

3000 yen for each, wow ! I am shocked by the price in Japan for the service.
1st. 1000 yen plus tax = the battery switch.
2nd. the rest of payment = Water pressure test (quality check for no clouding or water leak).
3rd. plus warranty if the watch still damage after battery switch (I can't recall how long)
If the watch have any other problems during this process, they usually switch to brand new parts for free. eg. Backcase O-Ring.
I do realize the possibility of switching the battery myself which will roughly cost less than 500yen for regular watch. But this totally will change the quality of a g-shock. I got bad experience about this. :)

In America, its fashionable amoungst the well to do, to not give a damn about the time. You can tell someone is a made person because they don't wear a watch. Only the poor who have to be to work or school on time wear watches. Girls avoid guys with watches, cause that means they don't have time for us...
but those men do give a damn for the time, they just check it on their phones and get all distracted by them. a watch tells the time at a glance, it doesn't distract.
A watch is a dead giveaway a guy is either a student or an economic peon slave. The well to do have all the free time in the world and don't live off a wall clock any more.
