    It's not Green Day's fault. Everytime I perform at a festival with more than 30000 people, I have no idea what's going on on the main or other stage as we stay far away in backstage areas or sometimes even in a hotel not far.
    As for the organisation of the festival, they are not wrong or right, the just have to decide what to do with the police depending on different factors. On this case, it's a situation where you can't win anyway. Either way, somebody will be angry

    Why did he shoot the dog? There's was no reason to shoot it, it was walking up to him slowly, if he was that scared he should've just went back over the fence immediately. That was cruel and unnecessary.

    How about you don't jump the fence trespassing someone's property and then shooting someone's dog who was by the way, in the right place for absolutely no reason. Hell the jumping the fence part I can even understand but why couldn't he just jump back out instead of shooting the two dogs who were doing absolutely nothing wrong? I'm not against cops but trigger happy cops like these are just something else.

      Don't american cops have pepper-spray/mace anymore? Mace can stop a freaking bear. There was no reason to shoot the dogs. As you said, truly a cowardly thing to do!

    • @Yellowbellytuna
      @Yellowbellytuna 7 лет назад +32

      Yes, they have an assortment of nonlethal weapons. Tasers, pepper spray/mace, and even clips that attach to the barrel of their handguns that dramatically lower the bullet velocity are all standard issue from where I'm from. I normally like to give the benefit of the doubt to police, but that video made my stomach turn. There was no cause for entry, the dogs weren't even threatening the officer, and he jumped straight to lethal force firing repeatedly. This officer was either never trained, or is so easily startled that he must be scared of his own shadow. Either way, I wouldn't feel safe with officers like this on patrol.

      If you are in any way traumatised and can't handle a situation due to that, then you shouldn't be a police officer. If you're stressed or have depression or anxiety or anything else doing with your mental health, and you can't control yourself and stop yourself from pulling out your gun, you shouldn't be a police officer. Plain and simple.

      Jonh Smith Even if he was traumatized as a child, he has no right to open gunfire on a calm animal, who was keeping it's distance and they entered without knocking effectively making them intruders to the dog yet it was peace, are you saying you trigger happy policemen are ok as long as they have reasons ( that you're imagining, without any real evidence) like trauma in childhood?

    • @Vulkanz

      Everything he did was legal. Legally, when an alarm is set off (by a criminal or unintentional) officers will investigate (without needing to ring the doorbell). Legally (sadly but totally legal) shooting a threat is what officers are taught...even if the threat is a guy holding a wallet, guy on the ground with hands up, guy in a hood, or a dog doing what dogs do.
      It's all totally (and sadly) legal.

    As someone who actually lives on Madrid i kinda understand why the organization acted like that. On 2012 we had an incident on which 5 girls died cause a similar music event on Halloween night was overcrowded. It shocked the entire country and caused organizers to improve security measures at this kinds of events. Did they do the right thing to ensure the attendees security by not canceling and evicting the whole event? Yes. Was it a douchebag move to not say anything to the artist or the crowd so they could offer a moment of respect for the deceased? Also yes

  • @christiancaballero6716
    @christiancaballero6716 7 лет назад +258

    Quite honestly, I think Green Day has definitely done nothing wrong. They have always put the safety of the fans, security, and those helping backstage before anything. Even earlier this year, not too long ago, they cancelled a show because of possible safety issues that could have had potential danger to the audience. They obviously did not know that this occurred or else they wouldn't have gone off stage. If slight possible injuries cancelled a show, why wouldn't a death? They aren't monsters, they're human.

And he didn't even check if there WAS an intruder in the house, he just hopped the fence. That dog could've been killed, and to shoot the poor thing was completely unjustified!

    As someone who lived in China for an extended period of time (and happens to be a homosexual): those in China who want to see this content will absolutely find a way (VPN) and will remain relatively unaffected by it. Chinese citizens distance themselves from their governments actions constantly, this new "ban" will not be any different. Animals like dogs are inherently curious, just because the animal was walking up to you does not mean you have any right to shoot it in the face. Secondly, standard procedure for a call like that is to drive to the residence, knock on the door, make your presence known, and if you hear screaming, shooting, shouting, glass breaking, etc. then and only then are you allowed to make entry

Sad the dogs got hurt, but glad they'll live and be able to get the needed care.

      I love Facebook law scholars. No, you don't have to hear "breaking glass" etc.. Probable cause is all that is required, something I have not liked since I came of age....because that could be literally ANYTHING. They could say they THOUGHT they heard something (thus the TV cop trope "Didn't you just hear a woman scream?" before they slyly smile and kick open the door), they could say someone told them they hadn't seen you for weeks and they were doing a welfare checkup. It could be literally ANY reason, and you better bet your ass that the cop is covered and if you fight back, you're either going to die or end up in prison. Welcome to the police state that a DEMOCRAT set up DECADES ago.
      Secondly, cops are not bound by law to play Russian Roulette with your pets. Sorry. If the dog comes at the officer in a manner THEY take as aggressive, your pet's getting shot. This ridiculous standard the public has for law enforcement gets dumber everyday. First, it's "cops should have to wait until the gun is pointed at their face to draw their weapons!"......or, you could just not reach behind you/in your pockets when told repeatedly not to and you could teach your children to act as though EVERY gun is lethal and EVERY gun is loaded.....you know....common fucking sense. Now, it's "The cop should have to wait until my dog has his jugular vein halfway out of his neck to shoot my dog!", as if your mutt's life is more important to everyone else than a human being. Again, it's a shitty thing that happened here, and I wouldn't have dealt with it in that manner, but the cop was well within his rights to pop the dog. Period. I know people don't want to hear that, but THAT is reality, not your pseudo intellectual rantings about "the law" that have no basis in reality.

Not only were these dogs friendly they were service dogs for the families children as their child suffered from frequent seizures. I dont think Green Day was in the wrong at all. They had no reason to believe anything was out of the ordinary. The coordinators or security of the festival probably would have received backlash if they HAD cancelled the festival as well. They had to make a choice. While it may have been in poor taste to continue with the festival, I don't think its necessary to be lashing out at the band or the security. Now is a time for sorrow, not anger.

      samistrying Frankly, if so many people were supposedly disgusted, why didn't everyone leave? No, they CHOSE to stay. Clearly, people still wanted the concert. Also, give the band some credit. Clearly had they seen what happened, it would only be reasonable to say something about it. Instead of thinking "Hm, maybe they weren't made aware of it", people were quick to jump to the conclusion, "They're heartless monsters who OF COURSE knew a man died and they said nothing about it and continued to perform! I hate Green Day now!"

      My issue with Mad Cool is they could have only canceled that stage. They could've taken a little more time to disperse the crowd to other stages. At the very least give the bands a heads up. Like "Hey, this is what's going down what do you want to do?" and leave it up to them to do a speech or NOT GO ON WITH "MAMA JUST KILLED A MAN"

    • @cassieberringer7427
      @cassieberringer7427 7 лет назад +11

      Monseigneur, I agree that the safety reasoning is totally reasonable. Maybe I'm heartless, but I never really understood why events would totally cancel if a person died (unless it's the cause like a rollar coaster) because that always has the potential to cause chaos (unless it's a small event). And in a way it is a double tragedy that people are then denied the activity that caused them to turn out in the first place. (Yes, I'm aware that is not anywhere close to the same level as someone dying.)
      But I also totally agree with Sonya, in that Green Day should have been informed so that they could tastefully address the situation and create a respectful buffer between the death of a man and their music, along with being mindful of song choices.

    I lived in Singapore for about 8 years, where they also censor homosexuality - if a movie showing in the cinema has a scene that is at all homosexual its taken out and usually we don't know cause its edited well, for example the whole bachelor party was taken out of wolf of wall street, and the maybe lesbian couple in finding dory was removed. The main thing is we just have no idea that anything is taken out, homosexuality is illegal in Singapore still and its infuriating especially cause protest or anything against the government is illegal, theres no pride theres a small picnic, and this year non-citizens were banned from attending. While we still have Facebook and youtube you can readily feel the rampant censorship and whats worse is a lot of Singaporeans don't even know it happens

    Well of course the second dog is going be somewhat worrying towards the officer if he established a threat! He shot the accompanying dog! What do you expect a dog to do? Even so the second dog may have been running to catch up with the other, they do that out of excitement dogs are happy editable creatures, new people can be seen as great fun!
    On another point, his first action/"reaction" was to shoot a calm and friendly dog- that doesn't give him reason to use the argument of defence on the grounds of it causing a threat to the officer because that first dog was clearly not a threat itself to begin with.

    I just about a month ago cut my hair short and donated to a professional wig maker. When I first decided that I was going to donate it, I looked up all the necessary stuff, like 1. How much you have to cut (minimum) 2. What kind of hair they accept. And 3. If you should wash it or do something to it before turning the hair in.
    It's different from wig maker to wig maker how long you have to cut minimum, but it's usually around 25 to 30 cm. I knew very clearly as stated from almost every wig maker I could find that they usually don't accept, bleached, dyed or coloured hair.
    That was one of the first things that I found. So I think that she didn't look through all of the "instructions" before cutting and just did it without a second warning. Or she cut it at a hair dresser that didn't know.

    In 1999 Owen Hart died during a WWF payperview, he had also fallen to his death performing a entrance from the stadiums rafters and falling. The show was held for 20-30 minutes with the camera pulled away from the scene as medics and staff quickly rushed Owen out of the building to the hospital. while viewers at home were very informed by announcer Jim Ross that the fall was not part of the show the audience was stunned and confused.
    The show continued I believe for the same reason that music festival claimed, to sway panic and give the good people the show they paid for. It was about a hour later that Jim Ross announced to the viewers at home Owen had passed away and only after the show was the audience informed.
    I don't have exact quotes from the wrestlers who performed after the fall but the Hart family was/is highly respected so I'm sure it was difficult to just go on with the show to ease the crowed.
    Slightly different than Green Days situation but keeping the crowds mind clear of the situation was a good call.

    There was a concert with Metallica and Guns N Roses in the early 90's. James Hetfield almost got killed during the first song. Guns N Roses didn't go on and there was a riot and people died. I completely understand the concert people wanting Greenday to play.

    • @ashante190
      @ashante190 7 лет назад +13

      It was in Montreal and Guns n Roses did actually go on. Duff and Slash once they heard the news about James and Metallica wanted to go on right away/early and play a long set (mentioned in their autobiographies) but Axl wasn't present at the venue. They actually started later than their slot time which was normal of Axl at that point in his career. They were 15 minutes in to their set when they decided to cancel the show due to technical difficulties. That's when the riot irrupted. So they did play, it just wasn't a long set and after not getting a full show by Metallica, the people were infuriated.
      That being said, I think the circumstances here are different so it may have produced a different outcome. Although James Hetfield was injured, according to Jason Newsted, the audience was calm about the situation. Its only after Axl was approximately an hour late and Guns only played 15 minutes of their set, that got people upset. I think if the show was cancelled due to a death they would be more respectful, like they were when Metallica initially left to the hospital.

She even at one point claimed they picked up scraps off the floor for donation, which doesn't happen. SMH at all these highly uneducated policemen. How are you going to shoot a dog multiple times when it is obvious that it has no intention on attacking you. First off, the officer came into the proximity of the dogs, the dogs simply then waltzed over to see what is going on, and then to shoot them when you're not even supposed to be there. That's the equivalence of a robber who trespassed into your territory shooting you because you came up to him to investigate what is going on

    People need to stop criticizing bands and show organizers for continuing shows like that. When 45000 people are in the same place for the same thing and that thing gets cancelled, they riot every single time. Not everyone in that place is gonna know what happened or why. Drunken mob mentality takes over and then they start tearing the place and each other apart. Show organizers are well aware of this and make this decision every time in order to prevent possible further tragedies. Does it suck and feel insensitive? Yes. But it's absolutely necessary.

That's a riot waiting to happen, telling them what happened, also potentially a riot, telling Green Day would then suggest to them to stand down, riot, telling them and then requiring them to play on regardless, shames them. The people in the know did the best they could with what they had to deal with. respect.

    I can't think of anything to comment, so here's a cinnamon roll recipe:
    Ingredients
    For the Dough:
    1 cup whole milk
    one 1/4-ounce packet active dry yeast (2 1/2 teaspoons)
    1/4 cup plus 1/4 teaspoon granulated sugar
    4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, plus more for the bowl
    1 large egg yolk
    1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more if needed
    3/4 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
    For the Filling:
    All-purpose flour, for dusting
    12 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened, plus more for the pan
    1/2 cup granulated sugar
    3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
    For the Glaze:
    2 cups confectioners' sugar
    1/3 cup heavy cream
    4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
    Directions
    Make the dough: Warm the milk in a medium saucepan over low heat until it reaches about 100. Remove from the heat and sprinkle in the yeast and 1/4 teaspoon sugar (don't stir). Set aside until foamy, 5 minutes. Whisk in the melted butter, egg yolk and vanilla.
    Whisk the flour, the remaining 1/4 cup sugar, the salt and nutmeg in the bowl of a stand mixer. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture. Mix on low speed with the dough hook until thick and slightly sticky. Knead on medium speed until the dough gathers around the hook, 6 minutes. (Add up to 2 more tablespoons flour if necessary.)
    Remove the dough and shape into a ball. Butter the mixer bowl and return the dough to the bowl, turning to coat with butter. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise until doubled, 1 hour 15 minutes.
    Roll out the dough, fill and cut into buns (see instructions below). Butter a 9-by-13-inch baking pan; place the buns cut-side down in the pan, leaving space between each. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise until doubled, 40 minutes. Preheat the oven to 325.
    Bake the buns until golden brown, about 35 minutes. Cool in the pan 15 minutes. Meanwhile, make the glaze: Sift the confectioners' sugar into a bowl, then whisk in the cream and melted butter. Transfer the buns to a rack and spoon the glaze on top while still warm.
    How to Form Cinnamon Buns
    1. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a 12-by-14-inch rectangle with the longer side facing you.
    2. Spread with the softened butter, leaving a 1/2-inch border on the far long edge. Mix the sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over the butter.
    3. Brush the unbuttered far edge with water. Roll the dough away from you into a tight cylinder and press on the long edge to seal.
    4. Cut the cylinder with a sharp knife to make 6 equal-size buns.

Not everyone in the crowd would have known or cared what happened, people possibly on drugs or intoxicated, a lot of unknown unstable variables, it's a riot waiting to happen. It was the safest move to keep everyone calm and protect he performers, staff, and crowd. The only reason people can talk about disrespectful mess now, is because the possibility of a rampant mob was avoided completely. You can't really deal with a situation like that until everyone is gone.

    I don't think Green Day can be faulted, because the likelihood was that they were not informed of the incident. They have their schedule, they get into the mindset of performing, and go when told. As far as the festival continuing, it's unusual that they wouldn't inform the performers. Obviously the scene was upsetting, and those who wanted to leave probably did. But the performers could have turned it into a positive experience for those who remained instead of this PR bullshit.

    Regarding the Green Day/Mad Cool issue: there is a common saying in show business: The show must go on. I've continued shows after fellow cast members have broken a leg, been run to a hospital for stitches, and have performed myself despite food poisoning. It's considered part and parcel of being a professional performer. Even if Green Day knew about Pedro had been killed, I would have respected their decision to perform anyway, and I respect Mad Cool for following the ultimate rule of performance. The show must and did go on.

    Not only is that one of the most cowardly acts I've seen recorded, it's also a straight-up crime. Imagine if he went into someone's garden and shot a couple of people that got up and were investigating why a random stranger was in their garden, He'd be in jail for attempted murder.

Let me tell you, that is rare these days. As a conservative who's sick of news sites on both sides of the the spectrum (I'm looking at you fox and CNN), it is refreshing to be able to turn on my RUclips app and watch an informed update on the state of our nation and the world. As for the China thing, this just seems like another reason why America, though flawed, is the greatest country in the world because we are the most free. Countries like Canada and Britain are outlawing things like insults and criticism (hatespeech). Before you peg me as some national exceptionalist, I realize that we are inferior in many categories, but it boggles my mind that people still don't realize that being able to say, print, worship, and carry what we want is truly truly great. Hopefully people like you Phil keep vocally defending these rights.

Wigs for Kids is a much better charity and has a better reputation.

      Savvy Marion To me, it's still pretty clear that the hair in the photo wasn't what she cut because if you ever have seen any of her videos, she has scraggly, damaged hair, and the hair in that photo looked quite healthy. I think she's lying in any case.

    Police officers, firefighters, doctors, etc. should not be hired if they're scared of every little incident. If you're a policeman who's scared of dogs, downgrade to a mall cop.

      I'm more curious about how the audience behaved when Greed Day took the stage. Did they cheer and enjoy the music as if nothing bad happened, before complaining later? Or did they boo the shit out of them and Green Day just didn't care for some reason?

  • @IceDragon978
    @IceDragon978 7 лет назад

    I actually agree with the decision to keep the festival going. I've been to a few rather small concerts, after which the audiences left NOT in a panic, and it was still absolute chaos. Something with that large of an audience ending suddenly is guaranteed to spread fear, which is almost invariably going to get people hurt or killed. It may seem silly, but keeping the festival going and letting it end as scheduled was the smart move.

      The idea is for PLATFORMS to hire the three censors, this is as if RUclips, Vimeo, Twitter, Facebook ( I know these are banned in China) had to each hire three censors.

    Hey Phil, at least one of the hair donation programs you linked is a FOR-PROFIT. I've donated my hair multiple times and I personally choose children with hair loss. It uses 100% of hair to make wigs for kids (and some adults) with cancer AND stuff like alopecia. They are awesome. They also take dyed hair and grey hair as long as there is not too much damage. So if Lele's hair isn't too damaged by the bleach, she could still donate to a great organization. Just my 2 cents.

    Seriously, guys? We're getting upset at Green Day? If you think they're the type of people to be comfortable playing a show after the death of a fellow musician, I honestly don't know what to tell you. All this anger at them and the festival itself is distracting from the true tragedy: Pedro's death.
    How about we focus on what truly should garner our attention and sorrow rather than add to the emotional shit storm with hate and finger pointing?

      they ARE pop music...

      I completely agree, If you have ever been to one of these big concerts you realize that the bands are often herded around like sheep. Even if they did see the paramedics it wouldn't be that weird because people get hurt at these events a lot and the rule of thumb is to keep going. It is not typical for people to die in that manner but it is very likely from their perspective that everything was normal.

      I feel like they could have asked what the problem was, but that doesn't make them at fault. They obviously see that kind of reaction often to a lot of smaller things and had no reason to suspect anything like that was the cause this time. I do think that the festival employee should have told them sooner about it though

    THANK YOU SO MUCH for talking about the censorship bullshit going on in China. I grew up there and only recently moved elsewhere so its hard to find other people to relate to about it. Also, it's not quite so "out there" as most Americans think, because there are so many Asian-Americans who are/were affected and outraged by the censorship.
