I like to keep the magnets on old speakers. Comes in handy for whatever and holds pictures to a fridge like you wouldn't' believe.
Made a magnetic bolt and screw tray out of one of mine , sliced it into thin disks and just stick a couple to the bottom of a metal tray of your choosing

Great idea man and I'm definitely going to use it when I replace my factory speakers. However, you need to hone your soldering skills. The tip on your soldering iron needs to be cleaned and tinned. Once you've done that, keep it clean with a water soaked sponge. Wipe the tip on the sponge when the tip is hot and then immediately tin it with solder. Otherwise you are going to get cold solder joints that will fail with the vibrations of a moving vehicle. Also, it was hard to tell for sure, but it looked like you were feeding the solder onto the tip of you iron. Heat the joints and feed your solder into the joints.. not onto the soldering iron tip to avoid those nasty cold soldering joints.

the only way someone could overheat a voice coil is to leave the iron on the wire for a damn long time. back in the '90s, we soldered everything basically. The HU harness, etc. I'm pretty sure that the Best Buy techs are the ones who started the practice, or at least made it more common of a practice. I could be wrong.
--I've never hurt a voice coil by soldering the speaker wire-terminal connection. But, typically we would solder on connectors to the speaker spades and like 6" or so of wire that terminate as a connector. Many diff. connectors to use.

What do you do in the case where you want to replace the factory speakers with aftermarket speakers but by using a DSP (DSR-1) maintain the factory wiring? That way when you sell or trade the car in you can just remove the after market speakers and reinstall the factory speakers prior to trade-in or sale. Thoughts?

Those on an extreme budget or just like to be crafty, you can fix those old speakers surround with a common old T - Shirt, works great.
Thanks mate for your help & replying back ..budget could get of of hand as to looking at the focal speakers 🔊 but I'll take your advice....for head units spot on there with brands what's a decent model out of the 2 would you go for?? want my sound to be clean krisp thinking also to use 2 amps as well one for speakers the another for just sub as in your vids also what's the best cable you can get theses days?? As well as sound proffing Sorry bout all of the questions just haven't been in the game for bout 10 years now need to educate myself again ... your boss in your vids just wish you were closer as would definitely recommend you to install in my car 🚗
cfunk1000 pioneer deh-80 prs best single din out their has the least amount of distortion to power ratio on the market that I have seen, I seen a video where it showed like 1/10th of 1% thd at almost max. Volume most. R rated at 5% thd I don't think the 80 prs is capable of making that much thd

James..By using the oem speaker plugs..Does this not diminish the sound of the aftermarket speakers..Most say they prefer to rewire using a thicker wire,causing a much better sound..Not questioning you to criticise your work..Just what a installer told me,cause I too wanted to use the oem plugs,in my 4runner.
Duke Stehm your stock wire gauge is more than enough for door speaker replacements. The exception to this rule is subwoofers ect.
thicker wire will not give you better sound. That is an audiophile's equivalent of an old wives tale. I've seen advertisements for 8 foot speaker wires running into thousands (yes thousands) of dollars. And you would not be able to tell the difference in sound quality between the ridiculously overpriced speaker wires and lamp cord.

cfunk1000 hard to say what would be ideal for you without knowing what sort of sound you're trying to get and what your budget is.
Wether they are exactly what your looking for I'm not sure but our biggest crowd pleaser set of speakers would be the alpine type Rs because they are affordable, high power, high sensitivity, and easy to install in a variety of different ways.
As far as stereos go, Alpine and Pioneer are the only two brands I'd look at.
Hmm, i guess it's useful if you're not that interested in audio, but really changing the wiring for better gauge wire would be the best idea for the system, but hey, it's all good for different customers eh 😉

Just another reason why i need a better camera/mic.
The music throughout my videos is at 0db and the vocals range from -6db to + 4db typically. so they are already pretty well balanced its just an audible illusion because the music is a constant output level whereas my voice comes in and out as I talk. So it just sounds louder, but the actual volumes are pretty much the same.

Ok how did really explain how do figure out the negative and positive side of the speaker!
When you put the positive of the battery on the positive of the speaker the cone will push out.
Basically I have a D battery with wires coming off it.
When i touch them on the terminals of a speaker, it will either move outwards or inwards. If it moves outwards, The polarity is correct (i.e. the positive terminal of the battery is touching the positive speaker terminal etc). If the speaker moves inwards on itself, the polarity is reversed (i.e pos to neg and neg to pos).

I mean, ya he connected a battery to the speaker but, He didn't show us how to tell which way of connecting the battery to determine which terminal is positive or negative or what to look for to determine polarity?

Apart from all the pseudo professionals and keyboard warriors having a dig at you below my comment, I believe what you have shown is something to seriously consider. I hate having to cut wires when I could get away with not having to do it. A cheap set of brand name car audio speakers are not going have their performance ruined, like most of the little shitheads who lost their minds below think, if the factory wires are reused. Use the very tip of the iron to solder not the side. Also get a new tip, theres no tin left and the tip is dead
i think that he was soldering with the side because he couldnt with the very tip anymore. i was thinking the same thing. i was like: he is saying he`s doing pro installs but he`s soldering iron looks like hillbillys one haha. But he did the good job
Don't use the tip it will take far too long to heat the joint due to small contact area, you will possibly damage something. Do use flux and apply solder to the iron before applying to the joint to aid heat transfer.

But I gaurentee with a $50 speaker and factory wiring, you wouldn’t hear the difference between the wires being soldered on, crimp connected or plug connected.
Moisture, vibrations, heat, cold, dust, dirt, grime and general filth. See where this is going? Cost has zero factor in doing a proper job.

if you are upgrading door speakers that you are going to run off your factory head unit through tiny factory wiring they are likely cheap enough you won't bother taking them out of the car. In that case just cut the factory connector and crimp on the appropriate female ends and be done with it.
If they are high quality speakers that are going to be running off their own amp then no need for this anyhow.
while neat seems somewhat pointless, just a way to bilk ur customers for extra 30 minutes of labor?
these are cheap $100 replacements for a blown speaker, they dont need upgraded wiring or head unit, not everyone spends megabucks on their car audio.
$100 for 1 or all 4?
regardless what I was saying still holds true, if you are just replacing OEM with walmart cheapo's it isn't worth the effort to retrieve them later just crimp on the female spades and save the 30-60 minutes you will spend keeping the factory connector, which likely will degrade signal anyhow.
or u could just spend 2 quid on snap on adapters
Why not keep the Magnets on the old speakers? Start a collection of sorts. Ya never know when you'll need it....

Am I missing something here? That seems like a lot of work to achieve nothing at all. Wouldn't it be far easier and less fiddly just to change the female connectors coming from the stereo.
Peter Huskins, sometimes the wiring adapters that are supplied are cca instead of ofc, causing corrosion then ultimately connection issues. This trick allows for the owner to go back to stock while keeping the integrity of the cars wiring.
