I Travel Lyrics - Words to images that Jim Kerr had witnessed during touring across Europe with Simple Minds . The Band were working at break neck speed during these times, in a never ending cycle of touring & making records . As a 16 year old boy in 1980 ..I Travel sounded futuristic & the album " EMPIRES AND DANCE " one of the highlights of my young life in 1980.
This band & their sound in the late 70's & early 80's, was uncompromising and a continually changing
musical landscape . Simple Minds would go on to produce 4 albums " Sons & Fascination, Sisters Feeling Call ,New Gold Dream & Sparkle in the Rain " before they had a Global hit with Dyfam in 1985 ....
I TRAVEL is unique and a song that instantly transports me back to my bedroom in my parents house & sounds a good today 41 years on .
    Thanks for sharing

This was when Simple Minds were experimenting with synths, you can hear the start of dance music in the synth beats. other tunes from them at this time you should listen to are 'The American' and 'Love Song'

Thank you. I have a playlist I can add them to. I'm enjoying discovering SM tracks as they were very much part of my growing up as a teen

@@gpreactions3194have a listen to any of the 5 albums recorded between 1979-82 light years ahead of everyone else..then they went mainstream had loads of number 1 Albums but lost their subtle artistic brilliance of their first Albums.

Their first few albums, (with the exception of the very first one!), were alt-rock masterpieces. Don't know what happened after the massive hit 'Don't You', they seemed to fade into mediocrity.

This takes me back, This was when the Minds were turning from punk to synth new wave and Michael MacNeil was starting to influence his keyboard skills, the album this featured on was ok, the next one was better and then the next two (New Gold Dream and Sparkle In The Rain) undoubtedly there best albums, then followed the highly commercial 'Once Upon A Time", this was the album that created a new fan base as well as that one well known track from a movie, New Gold Dream for me is my favourite as it was my first Simple Minds album i purchased in cassette form in the early 80's followed by Sparkle In The Rain, a lot of people use to compare them to U2, that's a matter of opinion, i always found Jim Kerr much more interesting on stage with the way he moved.

I remember seeing this tour in my hometown of Edinburgh. 1980 simple Minds we’re the leaders of what to come. Really underrated and not given their proper place in history. 42 years later the first five albums are still cutting edge. The reference of airports was an album by x Roxy Musics Brian Eno who recorded an album mid seventies called Music for Airports.

Derek Forbes has written some of the most memorable bass lines ever ,,In the early days no one could follow them live on stage, they were untouchable !

Never heard this before. Sad to say that I only know the big hits (Don't You Forget About Me, Alive and Kicking etc.)--I liked this a lot, and likely never would have heard it if it wasn't for your channel.
