That, The American and Love Song are three great Simple Minds dance bangers from that era. We used to go nuts to this in Glasgow in the early 80's clubs. It's probably why early fans are fairly averse to the post Sparkle in the Rain fayre.

The 12" version is even better! Celebrate was another dance/club hit from Simple Minds from around this time.

Oh I remember this one, I think we got a lot of the UK bands earlier than the US. Definitely more of a dance feel here. Love it!

Early Minds were eye opening fusing guitars and synth for some great dance music. Still got all the vinyls!

Amazing number from the first Simple Minds album that I got. I still remember that a friend asked me decades ago if I had anything with Simple Minds. Then I put Empires and Dance on and he claimed that it wasn’t Simple Minds :) Obviously he hadn’t heard this album before. I think he mostly knew them due to their hit, Love Song. It was a few years before their major hit, Don’t You Forget About Me.

This album I feel, along with the previous release Real to Reel Cacophony are the strongest in their discography.

This track morphed into Ghostdancing, one of their tracks on Once Upon A Time. In a live performance in January 1985 they had started changing the music to that on Ghostdancing but kept the lyrics from I Travel. By the time they performed Ghostdancing at Live Aid, a few months before it was released, the song had altered further still away from I Travel.

I would not have even recognized Jim Kerr! 😂 This song reminds me of “Just Keep Walking” by INXS from the same year! You should check that out if don’t already know it. ❤

Oh I can see that. Just Keep Walking is more post punk with not as much electronic, but can see the comparison. I was lucky enough to see Simple Minds support INXS in 2008, both were fantastic. I'm pretty sure INXS supported Simple Minds on the UK leg of the tour, so home country determined the order they played.

@@jemxsI actually like the INXS tune better, but there was something similar about that I can’t quite put my finger on?! ❤

You should react to the swedish rock band kent! "Dom andra" or "Musik non stop" would be a good place to start. They're generally considered to be the biggest musical act in all of scandinavia, although band like ABBA and Roxette has obviously reached more success world-wide.

Awesome tune from their early days (best IMO). You should check out "Sweat in Bullet".
