      It all depends on the experience of the capt and size of the boat same can be said for the size of the fish caught lol.

    I went through this inlet as an 18 yr old kid on a 14' Hobie Power Skiff with a 40 hp Mariner outboard! All the guys on the big fishing boats coming in were waving me back and I didn't know why at the time, then I got into the big swells and like to crap my britches!! But the old power skiff handled it like a champ! Wish I still had that little boat!!

    Those Vikings handle this surf better than any other boat. They are TRUE deep see vessels from the way their bow has such a wide flare. To their sheer weight. They move through these swells like bulldozers. Plus, the cat diesel engines many of them have.

    • @tomdavis8757
      @tomdavis8757 Месяц назад

      They aren’t as deep V as you think. And most custom Carolina boats have a sharper entry and more forward flare. The strong point of the Vikings is interior fit and finish. No Carolina boat I’ve been aboard can come close. If you ever get a chance to board a 60’ they outfitted some with beautiful walnut interiors. Impressive by any standards

    Me and Keith Raines (owners of Raines Reef) when he was just 12 years old and I was 14, we went in and out, like 20 times in a 12ft aluminum John boat with a 10hp Mercury on during a storm!! I remember seeing 6ft of air between his butt and the bow seat most of the time!!! Yes, that was way stupid, but that's the kind of excitement we went for back then!! 1975. I grew up in OCMD and all my family still lives there and over in Ocean Pines too. This is God's honest truth... The reason we stopped that day is because the boat BENT in the middle and water started spraying up into the boat!! It was sinking pretty fast all of a sudden and we had to beach it on the Chincoteague island beach right there because it's all concrete walls all the way in and around the corner to the White Marlin restaurant with the Sport Fishermen boats and docks on the OC side of the inlet. There is a Cost Guard Station right there and they sent a boat out to get us!! They told our parents on us, but we didn't get into trouble or anything!! I can tell you this, growing up in OCMD during the 70s 80s and 90s was the very best in all my life!! I worked on the pier in Morbid Manor and on the Hymalaya and the Star Ship Enterprise rides. The very best of times!!
    Oh, the boat was retrieved by the USCG and returned to us with a note saying.."DO NOT EVER DO THAT AGAIN!!" We didn't 🙂

    Camera really flattens out the waves on video due to it not having good depth perception. Those who have filmed bad conditions know just how much it knocks things down. Those who don't have no idea just how snotty that inlet is here. That was some dirty water right there. That being said there was plenty of examples of guys who knew how to run that water and make it look easy on this day. Some of your best footage yet... except the days you happened to catch my buddies and I lol.

      Sorry if this comment was taken out of context. It was just a genuine question as I saw them all in the background. I completely agree zip zap, most people would definitely get board unless they loved the bigger boats. But everyone loves a center console flying through as it’s so exciting and interesting to watch. Again wasn’t trying to insult your videos as they’re awesome!
