I remember hearing about these things happening when I was a kid in China. It scared me- the thought of being tied to someone without my consent, even if I did die. Beautiful animation!
I love how simple she is as a ghost because it’s like opulence no longer matters even as a possible bride, and I love how we see her mother going through the recognition that this wasn’t just her daughter who’d become a fine young woman. She’s still her baby even in death, and I love the spark we see when she realizes that.
I always thought the ghost marriage tradition is cool because hey you can still be together and get your happily ever after even in death. but it never occurred to me that the deceased might not be willing. this animation was made so beautifully; the background, the characters, even the music and sound effects. it gave me another perspective of this tradition. i literally had chills after watching this. brilliant work!
Lovely animation, love the use of colours and the storytelling is well done! It's nice that the traditional ceremony wasn't forced and pushed through in the end, allowing her spirit was able to calmly rest in peace. Really well done!!
I don’t normally feel anything when I watch films but this one kinda got to me! From a cultural standpoint, the color choices and visual storytelling, you blew it outta the water! Good job and congrats on your upcoming grad! 🎉
i found this from ig! and omg i ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE PACING OF THE STORY, THE EXECUTION AT THE END UGHHH THE CULTURE AND THE ANIMATIONS. i wanna eat this art style too, I'd watch a series from you!!❤❤

such a good animation😭 i remember hearing this somewhere online, always thought, why would this be? is it like... necessary to die and had a couple on your side? What if the ghost doesn't want to be married off? And this animation may have capture what i imagine so far!! What a great animation, will be hoping to see more amazing art from this channel!!❤️
Thank you! Ghost marriages are a tradition in many parts of Asia where families may wed their deceased children so that they won’t be lonely in the afterlife. I know that in Chinese culture a significant factor is that it’s considered shameful to die single especially for women unfortunately. I just wanted to tell a story from the perspective of the ghost in this film!
Searched this up on Wikipedia Apparently it’s an old Chinese tradition - 冥婚 (minghun), where a wedding ceremony performed with the help of a priest or a matchmaker to wed two people - either one or both parties are deceased. In this case, both are deceased, so they made effigies of both parties and burned them
@@fallensway855ig the parents of both parties considered it embarrassing in some way for their kids to not have been married before they died so they thought “eh why the heck not let’s put them together in the afterlife”

@@meowvian1342 Thank you for the context I can see why the ghost was so concerned
What what’s a ghost marriage? Can someone explain??

I mean I get some pretty nefarious reasons for an alive dead union but the dead dead confuses me.
