As a teacher for over 25 years, I can tell you (with academics) read, read, and read some more. You read to them-they read to you-they read independently-it matters. Their vocabulary, their understanding of verbiage, their comprehension, their ability to communicate is enhanced through reading.

I was blessed to be able to watch my two youngest granddaughters from 6 weeks to ages 3 and 4…..we read for hours every day…..both are now in middle school and in accelerated classes and getting all A’s. Most kids in a daycare program don’t get that much one on one reading time consistently for years 😉

Homeschooling momma here 😊 In my 5th yr schooling and going into our sixth year. I have an 8, 7, 4 and 3 few have upcoming birthdays and will be 9, 8 5 and 3 soon! I’ve found as each new child came into school age I would look for as many ways I could group teach and then let the practice be individualized. For example
Bible, prayer time, character building etc.. we start the day off in this area which is easily a group teachable. This time also includes memory work that all children participate in. You can plug in your flash card/memory work here like phonogram cards or even sign language even for example. Fun sing alongs/movement etc.. or just get fresh air outdoors before beginning the core bookwork lessons for math and language arts.
Language arts - phonics, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, writing,reading etc.. I’ve FOUND WHAT I’D BEEN SEARCHING FOR!!! It’s called Logic of English - A more group all included curriculum that touches each area above and latin/ Greek roots too which is a bonus to me and that I can have a more group style teaching experience!!! Especially for the ages and levels of our three school aged boys. The way it’s setup has the teacher manual written and visually prepared in such a way that it takes into account having multiple children in different levels and tells the teacher for those in group a do this and use these set of words; group b use this set; group c do and say this. So it’s so easy for me to have my boys all sitting at table I open the manual and group teach the section that tells me say this to all, then say this to group a, say this to group b, say this to group c oh it’s so nice!! And it includes so much as a whole understanding how all the moving parts of English laid out in such a way that it teaches the big picture together. No need for me to go and seek a separate programs one for phonics one for spelling one for reading one for vocabulary one for handwriting for each student!! I can use this curriculum right now and it includes all the parts of language in one manual so helpful!! Multiple kids equals the more I can group teach the more simple and pleasant the experience becomes.
We had been using TGAB language arts previous to finding Logic of English but that meant for me to be constantly switching out with each child since many hadn’t yet had a fluency in reading and it became a constant “ok, you do this while waiting for me, then switch with brother and work with me, etc.. doing this times 3 for English plus another 3 times in math it’s doable but their is a simpler way in Logic of English at this lower/mid-elementary age. Once the children have completed all levels to group c I can then at that point they can do it all individually and use something like TGAB which I actually did enjoy just it did require me to read everything out to each child separately which meant individualized time per child. I foresee Age 10/11 for them to be at a more independent place in their language arts studies. Trust that they’re understanding well enough to come to me just when needed. Right now I’m in those all hands on deck years and group teaching is so wonderful when I can find a curriculum that has that feature!
Math - This subject is very much per individual for the most part. Some memory work can be carried through multiple age levels but usually this is one that I do have to spend each individual attention to each child and switching out putting another doing something independently like handwriting and switching out etc while I’d work with each child. This one I do have to find separate levels and get books for each level per child. TGAB we too enjoyed this and having all we needed in the book and math box is a plus. I’ve also come to like Math with confidence too it’s similar but still different in the way the child’s workbook doesn’t have all the writing for them to read the teacher manual has the writing so for my boys in the ages of developing reading skills this is helpful about it. They would just break down just by seeing all the words and get overwhelmed before even beginning the lesson. They could do the work but it’s like the words overwhelmed them so having bulk wording in manual that I had to read out to them anyways is helpful for children needing that.
Group teach history with stories of the world includes me reading aloud then each child at their own level can be involved narrating, answering questions, participating in projects in ways that fit their abilities.
Science Apologia - I’m able to read aloud the lesson ask questions and do experiment etc.. each participating at their own abilities.
Afternoon quiet hour is great for individual reading practice if needed etc.. any electives your family chose maybe art/music etc..

I’m grateful for your comment! I’m going on year 3 of homeschooling and reading has not been catching on at all. I’m planning to switch from TGATB to Logic of English. I’ve been comparing All about reading and logic of English. I will stick with TGATB for all other subjects!

We've been homeschooling for 10 years now. Love learning (sometimes again, sometimes new) along with my kids. So, so grateful for this opportunity that God has given us to homeschool our kids. ❤
I can’t believe my oldest is in 6th grade this year as well! Now I’m homeschooling 5 of my 7 and it’s just gone by so fast! So thankful for the younger ones just sitting around morning baskets and discussions they’ve picked up so much along the way! Can’t wait until we’re in PA full time!
Great video. I homeschooled all four of my children and now they’re all adults with children of their own. I used A-Beka videos for my three boys when they were in high school. You mentioned that you wanted to incorporate music classes into your curriculum this year. I put all four of mine into music classes and that was part of their curriculum. It paid off. I remember doing a co-op class with a few ladies and it was fun and rewarding. One of the classes I did was an etiquette class with my daughter and after we finished the class we had a tea with the girls and their moms. It was so much fun. What did you use before Abeka?
I used, Bob Jones, Pathway readers, and Saxon Math.
I was homeschooled all the way through school, as were my four sisters. My two older sisters and I all now homeschool our children. We will be going into our second year homeschooling with a pre-k and first grader. I was excited when you said teaching textbooks because it is such a great curriculum! That's what I used in high school, and my sister's are using it for their older kids now as well. I used the good and the beautiful math k for my kindergartener at the time, and he actually hated it and really struggled! After lots of struggling we switched to math with confidence by Kate snow, and oh my goodness! The change saw in his confidence! We can't wait to start the 1st grade book this year! Also, if your little one isn't math brained, I HIGHLY recommend a cute tv show called number blocks! We watch it on RUclips kids for free! Between math with confidence and number blocks, my 5 year old (now almost 6) went from not being able to do even the most simple addition problems to now being able to add incredibly quickly. He can now count by 2s, 5s, and 10s. He could hardly count to 20, and now he's counting to 200 and beyond. He has even memorized quite a few multiplication tables. He has totally blown me away.
We also really enjoyed the good and the beautiful little hearts and hands science! ❤

We homeschool our children as well, it would be wonderful if they chose homeschooling for their children when they are grown.

@nn5410 I think a lot of it had to do with my mom herself and the fact that I'm such an introvert lol. We were raised in a very nurturing Christian environment where we were taught that the wife was the keeper of the home and with that my mom (who was herself public schooled) felt a call to homeschool us in order to raise us up in the way we should go so to speak. She just didn't like the idea of someone else raising her kids half of their lives and felt that that was her sole responsibility. When she started homeschooling over 30 years ago not nearly as many people were doing it, so while I was getting up and eating breakfast and doing math in my pajamas or snuggled up to my mom reading stories that made us both cry, other kids my age were getting up early, sitting at a desk all day, and struggling with bullies and other things that came with public school. I just knew even from a very young age that I wanted my kids to feel as safe, loved, and nurtured as I always did. It felt so strange to think of sending my tiny humans off to be with strangers all day.
Fast forward to when I met my husband! He was also raised in a Christian home, but he was public schooled and went to day care, he was an only child and struggled with his self-esteem all growing up, which led to a drug and alcohol addiction at a very young age, not to mention all kinds of other rebelion. The more I got to know him and the more he got to know me, the more we both realized the importance of being our children's primary care takers and how important it was for us to guard our children's hearts and minds from this evil world and to be the ones to talk to them about those things at an appropriate age and time. Hopefully that all makes sense lol.

Im in my last 2 years of homeschooling and I’d do it all over again. Having your children around and introducing them to all the wonders of life, encouraging them in the necessary mundane has been a wonderful season! We used TT for geometry and Algebra 2. It fulfilled the requirement and didn’t put them back by any means. You’ll hear lots of negative along with the positive. All of mine will have gone into higher mathematics beyond highschool and score very well. Keep in mind whatever they don’t learn or don’t grasped can be learned in a snap as they grow older. You are teaching them to learn. If they know how to enjoy learning they’ll be fully capable of filling in missing gaps that all programs have.
I'm not a homeschool mom but my sister-in-law homeschooled her two girls so I've always been interested in it. I loved this video and you have so many awesome books for your studies!!! I have two under two so far! We are going to homeschool. I feel so overwhelmed even with the thought, because i was never schooled at home or anything, whatever i learn in work or default is almost all I've got; but homeschooling also kind of excites me because in real time i will get to learn all the things i never did along with my children and be amazed and facinated together.

My oldest is going into 2nd grade and has had negative experiences for 2 years and I feel called to start homeschooling him. My next oldest is starting kindergarten and I am so excited to give him a fun and supportive start to school at home! We have used Teaching Textbooks for a number of years and love it. It definitely frees up my time teaching the older kiddos so I can work with the younger ones who need more one-on-one time.
@thisgoldenhour I too have 5 children! I’ve been homeschooling now for 18 years. My youngest starts his senior year in the fall. You are DEFINITELY right when you say it goes by so fast!! We also, started out using Abeka, some Bob Jones, ALWAYS Saxon math, but about 6 years ago found the Robinson curriculum and really love it!
I always love seeing what other homeschool families are doing! We are a homeschooling family - I have 4 kiddos, ages 7, 5, 3, and 7 months. We use Gather Round and I love it because it’s Christian based and it’s family style learning, so we can sit down and do our lessons together! 🙌❤️
Homeschool mama here- our kids are 14, 11, 9, 6, and 2. I had our 11 and 9 year olds use teaching textbooks this past school year- it was great in the beginning but once they didn’t understand the video lesson and needed my help towards the end of the year I found it not as convenient at TGTB because the lessons they needed help with I couldn’t reference right away. As you know a toddler is pretty demanding with time so I had hoped TT would help, I am going back to TGTB this coming year. I love hearing what everyone is using and why.

Homeschool mama of four here. Our oldest graduated last year and our youngest starts this year 😆 We really like the concept of doing school all together so we’re using Gather Round curriculum for our core curriculum - it encompasses all subjects except math. I love that we can do it together regardless of age. For math, we use teaching textbooks. 💕

I am a homeschool mom of 4. My oldest just graduated high school. So this coming year I will only be teaching 3. The curriculums we are currently using are Master books, ABeka, and this year we are trying Sonlight for Geometry. So thankful for the variety of resources we have available to teach our children academics with a Biblical view. Homeschooling can be difficult, but very rewarding!!! I love your content.

Im homeschooling 2 kids a second grader and a first grader soon I'll add a prek. Science and social studies we have been doing until studies and i love them! We are keeping them short 2-3 weeks per topic but its the best part of my day🤣🤣
we absolutely LOVED Our 50 States!! Such a great course. I highly recommend it. I've been homeschooling for many years and am a homeschool graduate myself! My oldest is now in college and my youngest is going in to 3rd grade!

My son really enjoyed Notgrass our star spangled story last year. :) we’ll be using Math with confidence which I LOVE!! Along with logic of English and Apologia (science).

I am curious about your Homeschool Co-op, when you gather weekly, what do you focus on? Do the kids work on schoolwork together or do you do some kind of extra curricular/elective lesson of some kind? Yay! Im so glad you decided to make this video for us. We will be a first time homeschool family after being in a private school the past few years. I have also been leaning towards The Good and the Beautiful. Our kids are 10, 9, and 7 :) This was a very helpful video and reading all the comments and other suggestions. Be blessed.

We did use TGTB Math up till about 3rd/4th grade, and we switched over to Saxon for my oldest, and BJU for my upcoming 4th grader. I’m a homeschool grand mom! I have 4 adult children and I homeschooled my youngest using the Charlotte Mason method with my own curriculum. It was so much fun and a great success. He is a walking encyclopedia and a lifelong learner. Now my oldest is a single parent and I’m homeschooling her 2 children. They will be in 2nd and 3rd grade this fall and I am using the Charlotte Mason method with them. I tried last year using some of the simply Charlotte Mason curriculum but it was in my opinion far more advanced and didn’t work as well so now I am building my own curriculum for this fall. It just suits them perfectly. They are very different so this allows me to tailor the curriculum to each child’s needs. Some people think I’m crazy but I am passionate about homeschooling. I just love and cherish this time with my grandchildren and I’m so grateful I can pour myself into them. I did start using the art hub for kids on RUclips because of you and they love it. I also bought them their own sketch pads for art. I love sharing ideas with other homeschoolers. Thank you for sharing what your family is doing. Love your channel. ❤❤

Homeschool mama here! 🫶🏼 And I was homeschooled myself! I have 4 children & my eldest just turned 5 & is ready to start formal lessons. We use Gentle & Classical Nature study, Math U See, & Sing, Spell, Read, and Write for LA. We do a morning basket & I run a Charlotte Mason co-op that is once a week. Homeschooling is so much fun!!

Homeschooling for our 10th yr!!! it seems to go by so fast! We are using Gather 'Round Homeschool and Math U See. We have 2 highschoolers!!! We started when our oldest was in Kindergarten and was marked as "special" and we disagreed and come to find out that our child just needed one on one when they were young. We prayed about it and it has been the best choice we made. They both have their own business' and are looking at what their future holds! We love your videos!!
We used My Father's World for kindergarten and LOVED it! The bible is SO good and the curriculum is easy and puts emphasis on a lot of outside time. Perfect for our family. I am excited to use My Father's World again for 1st grade.
This will be my 2nd year of homeschooling! TGATB is a wonderful language arts and math curriculum!

I love master books for my son and TGATB for my daughter for LA. Math we use master books too, i like it because it’s Charlotte Mason based. Super simple and straight to the point!! Teaching textbooks for my son who is in 3rd grade for math!

We don't do homeschooling, but we use the TGATB curriculum, and it is really a blessing, because my daughter gets home and herself opens the books and do the lessons .
Right now we are doing the reading and order their book series and also doing sparks and stars, so amazing.
You mentioned a website for languages and drawings. Could you elaborate a bit on them.?
Homeschooling is a concept new to me, eventhough we live in Canada; i come from a totally different place where this is not an option, so I am learning through all this videos . Thanks for everything.

For reading instruction we've loved All About Reading and love it. And we've REALLY enjoyed Charlotte Mason Arithmetic Series for math

Homeschool mom of 3! My oldest just finished kindergarten. We have been loving the Good and the Beautiful Math Level K. Wanting to change up our Phonics/Language Arts as Hooked on Phonics has been great, but need to change it up. Nice to get some options!
Going into our 5th year homeschooling. Rising 7th, 4th, and Kindergartner. We love trying new things and dabble in lots of different curriculum. This year we’ll be utilizing Moving Beyond the Page for LA, science, and social studies. We also use All About Reading and Spelling for my upcoming 4th grader. Trying out Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading for my rising Kinder. For math we love Saxon. So many exciting fun things planned! 🩵

We are in our fifth year of homeschool. Both kiddos went to public school through most of elementary and I also worked at their school. We've used a mixture of mammoth math, Master Books, Khan Academy, and T4L. I know I have forgotten something...😂 I probably use an approach that is a mixture of Charlotte Mason/Classical. We have switched to year round so our book part if the day doesn't take all day. We spend a lot of time involving the kids in things around the home and property daily. Their science course last year had virtual labs, but I was able to create an interactive lab with our seed starting station indoors. Our kiddos have always helped with all the sowing, but with this they they have tracked their Jalapeños from seed to harvest. They will be adding a final amendment to the document as we will also process the fruits in the next month or so. Overall it has gone really well. They're highschoolers now, and growing every single day ❤
This will be our 10th year homeschooling. Six kiddos, four different grades. We love The Good and the Beautiful, but don't use it solely. We incorporate other "brands" as well, depending on subjects.
I homeschool two of our four now are still home with me. Our oldest is a college graduate and our second will be a college senior this fall. My two that are home are a rising ninth and seventh grader. We love TGTB for math. Last year our sixth grader used their math and it was great. We plan to do their seventh grade math this year. Our ninth grader will use Denison algebra 1. We love Gather around for history. It’s done family style and it’s a beautiful program. I’d highly recommend you look into that. It’s been such a blessing to us!

This year I'm thinking of using Sonlight for History, but I'm not 100% committed yet 😅
We have used CLE till now (finished 4th grade) really gets the job done well and so affordable, however we wanted sometnjgn more coloful this year so I have pulled alot from Generations curriculum, it’s newer on the market , it’s BEAUTIFUL. We are doing masterbooks, berean boulders for science, and LLATL.. see what we end up liking. My first grader will stick with CLE as the Learnign to read program is awesome from them.

We have 8 kids. Homeschooling from the start. Oldest will be starting 6th grade this year as well, then 4th, 3rd and 2nd grades & the youngest two will be in 1st grade (6 students altogether).
We do ABEKA video lessons K-2nd grade (that’s because English is their 2nd language and they pretty much need to hear a lot of English during their first 3 years of homeschooling), and then starting 3rd grade we move on to Christian Light Publications.
. We have a going into 4th and going into first grade. This year we are using: Horizons math by aop, ELA by Christian light education, as well as, all about reading for our daughter with dyslexia, Bible by lifepac (also aop). Evan-moor for some of our social studies, the Tuttle twins, and reading/math seeds/ and brain pop as supplementals. We haven’t decided on what science we’re doing yet.
I am a homeschooling mom of four! My oldest will be in high school this year! (how is that possible!) I also have a 6th grader, 4th grader and 2nd grader. We Love TGTB handwriting and science units so much! We use their creative writing and typing as well. We have used Abeka Math through the 1st grade and then we start Teaching Textbooks 3 for our second graders. I feel like teaching Textbooks is behind on their numbers for the right grade, If that makes sense. So my 4th grader is doing TT 5. I do not personally care for TT passed the 6th grade so we switch to Denison Algebra for junior high and high school and it is AMAZING! Then we use and LOVE Notgrass History for all grades. We use ABeka phonics. English Grammar has been difficult to find something that we love but we are currently using Easy Grammar and like it. I pick their literature from multiple sources each year based on the child, level and their interests. For Bible we really enjoy the Not Consumed workbooks :) Appreciate you sharing your homeschool curriculum Stef! :)
We also just started Denison because TT was a flop- my daughter who did so well with Abeka started tt last year. Ugh- the lessons took forever and they didn’t teach concepts well (for 7th grade). My husband has a Masters degree and took multiple advanced math classes; he was so annoyed with the curriculum. He asked I switch her back to Abeka or use Saxon. I’m excited for Denison (she just started chapter 2!).

I will be a homeschool mom, mine are 3 and 1 right now. My 3 year old knows pretty much all the basics. We're working on his reading and writing. My 1 year old is starting to pronounce a few letter sounds.
Our son is almost 5 months and we are planning on homeschooling. I am nervous even though we still have a while for him to start but wanting to learn all I can.

I have 3 almost 4 little ones right now, with 2 in school this coming year! They are 7, almost 5, and 2! My 7 year old will be doing 3rd grade and my 5 year old will be in kindergarten this year! And number 4 will be here end of August! I loved Christian Light Education for the early years, but i think the amount of work in each lesson has just become to much for my 7 year old, so we are actually doing a review year of 3rd grade this year with different books, most of which i got from my mom! I feel i need to work on learning to do his curriculum differently, plus i really want to focus on some character building with him this year, and since he was already ahead i figured a review year would help us with this focus!!

I am wondering what foreign languages you teach your children at homeschool. My kids speak English, French, Russian, and Spanish. I believe that knowing and speaking many languages, as well as knowledge of business administration and investing, should be an integral part of modern education.
My children are adults now. But i would have loved to have been able to homeschooled them.

I homeschool all 4 of my children and have been since the beginning. My oldest is 7th grade now. And then I have 5th grade, 2nd grade and kindergarten. It goes by so fast! We are very similar! We also use good and beautiful for language arts, math and science. I’m anxiously awaiting their new history. I have also been using the mindful heart for history. I am curious about the 50 states geography. I may check that out.
I'm mama to 4: 2 starting KG, 1 starting preschool, and 1 baby. I'm doing TGTB for handwriting and science, All About Readin for language arts and Math U See. For the rest I'm going to just read a lot of books.
I love all the color amd pictures too! Unfortunately my boys prefer the no fuss, no color. It's distracting to them. ☺️
I'm a homeschool mom, we've used mainly abeka. I have 4 children, 2 have graduated, 1 will graduate this year, and our baby will graduate in 2028. My children are well spaced out my oldest being 29 and my baby 14. When I finish in 2028 I will have homeschooled for twenty years. My older children went to a private school early on.

Homeschooling mom of 7 for 20 years now. Can't believe it! Only 2 left. One favorite curriculum... for grades 5-8 science (my least favorite subject so this says something) was God's Design by Answers in Genesis. Such awesome evidence in creation pointing to God and His Word.

I love the concept of homeschooling. Unfortunately it is forbidden in our country (Germany) and schooling is compulsory. Of course this has advantages and disadvantages. But I still like watching videos like this for inspiration.

I have heard from many homeschooling families that teaching textbooks made their children behind in math and did not equip them for higher math levels.
I recommend Singapore Math, Saxon, or Math U See.

I am a teacher at a Montessoriprimaryschool in the Netherlands. My son went to this school. It is not that common to homeschool in the Netherlands. I do enjoy your enthusiasm. Have fun in teaching , it is very rewarding.
