    Best Winter weather for a long time. Only one Blizzard so far. You are not out of the woods yet but you are nearly there. And, now the best time to come. when the sun return. Then you realize how much you have missed it.

    Interesting as usual! About language skills and jobs:
    As you mentioned in the end of the video it (of course) depends on your line of work - in certain "high end jobs" you are fine with english, but I would say this is not always the case. Before I retired I was a partner in an architect firm and I don´t think I would have hired a person that could not speak or more importantly read and write in swedish. The same goes if you work in a shop, in education or in healthcare. On the other hand you can get by without any knowledge of swedish in many lowincome jobs, like cleaning etc.
    I also think that if you are from a non EU/EES-country things are much harder when it comes to get a permit to work in Sweden - you can´t just come here as a tourist and start searchinhg for a job.
    Looking forwar to your next video and my best wishes for your forthcoming birth!

    • @LivingSwedish
      @LivingSwedish  2 года назад

      Yes, very true! There are definitely still many jobs which require Swedish. And it's so much harder to get a job when you're non-EU. I read that a lot with people coming from the UK now. Not easy at all. People who can read and write in Swedish have a huge advantage on the job market for sure 💪🏻

    Keep in mind that it’s not legal for the person that you rent in second hand from to charge whatever they want, there is a limit. Many people get scammed, not knowing that what they’re paying is way above the legal limit. It is more expensive than a first hand contact though.

    • @LivingSwedish
      @LivingSwedish  2 года назад +2

      Yes, I wouldn't know either what the legal limit is to be honest. And yes, the scams. I read a lot about it and it sounds crazy!

    Weather-wise, 2021 was for sure a pretty nice year, with good variation. What can sometimes happen, and which I believe has become more common in recent years, is long spells of the same weather. All of a sudden the sky is grey everyday for two or three months. Or the opposite, I found the summer of 2018 quite frightening, I barely saw a single cloud in the sky between April and October. Trees died and all the grass went brown.
    One thing about the darkness is that it doesn't necessarily make you gloomy or sad, often it's more like your emotions kind of go into hibernation, and then they wake up in spring.
    Also, Germans that learn Swedish usually end up sounding kind of like the queen, (at least for now, she's 78 so she might not be around forever) so don't be afraid to learn Swedish. :)

    Thank you for the video! The timing is perfect for me since I just got my offer from an employer in Stockholm so I'll be moving within the next 2 months! All the points you talked about are definitely interesting. Can you expand on the usage of cards while you still don't have a bank account? I was told only cards with a chip and a pin code will work in Sweden. Is that true? Can I get Swish before I have a bank account?
    How long do you think it's the waiting queue now for a personnummer? I'm moving as a EU citizen so will that make the process faster?
    Just an off question I was thinking. Did you have to buy a snow suit for your daughter this winter? I was reading somewhere some kindergartens require you to have them for your child.
    Thank you!

      Welcome to Sweden! I hope you will enjoy it here :)

    • @rasmuswi
      @rasmuswi 2 года назад +1

      Not sure if you need the chip, but one thing I've heard of is the pin code. it has to be four digits, in some parts of the world there are apparently pin codes that are not four digits, and those will not work. Maybe that means you need the chip, but here in Sweden the cards had four digit pins already in the early 80s, long before the chips existed.

    • @emilg
      @emilg 2 года назад

      @@rasmuswi thanks for the info, we also have 4 digit pins so hopefully I'll be ok!

    • @LivingSwedish
      @LivingSwedish  2 года назад +1

      Congratulations! That sounds very exciting! 🎉
      Which country do you come from? The easiest is to have a "tapping to pay" on your card (or on your phone) so you don't even need the pin. However, chip and pin is common and should work here as well. Sometimes it depends if you have activated your card for overseas payment as banks could flag this as fraud so maybe look into that. As far as I know, Swish only works with a Swedish bank here.
      I can imagine personnummer processes are faster at the moment. It's not summer and Covid restrictions were lifted. There's a good chance this can be sorted in a few weeks but I don't know for sure.
      And in regards your last question, we bought several snow suits when we arrived. One or two are probably enough but they're definitely required as kids play outside all the time. However, you will arrive only in about 2 months and then it's spring so you will have some time to buy a snow suit here. There's a great range of shops and second-hand shops here to choose from :)

      @@LivingSwedish Thats correct regarding swish. You need a swedish bank acount and for that reson you alos need the personnummer.
      I guess all creditcards today like ViSA Eurocard etc have chip. I think you need that as all cardreaders use the chip. Its long time since we had the card only with card number.

      Yes, you need a Swedish bank for it. We live here so that's why we managed to have Swish.

    Heck the cash was updated like 5 years ago and I barely know what the new banknotes and coins looks like...
    All notes and coins were replaced except for the 10 kr coin.
    I really don't understand why the 200 kr note and 2 kr coin was introduced, pointless.

    Hey I have a question about Swedish people/culture. So there was this Swedish guy on RUclips/Instagram, and one of his followers commented one day and was like "Oh, wait I thought this guy was gay" and someone else replied "No he's just Swedish." Can someone pls explain to me what that was about? I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be an insult to him or a fact about the culture in some way. :/ The person in question seems like a really nice guy so hopefully it wasn't an insult... But yeah I'd appreciate it if anyone could explain this to me. Thanks for your time.

    • @LivingSwedish
      @LivingSwedish  2 года назад

      Not sure if there's an explanation for this. There are always people out there who are strange. This seems a rather strange comment to me and doesn't seem to be a cultural thing...

    i think ( tell me if im wrong)
    To use swish, youll need a phonenumber registerd on your name. and to be able to do that, youll need a swedish id, called personnummer.

      Yes, the first thing you need is a personnummer. Then an ID card and then you're able to start a BankID with your bank which enables you to use Swish. I never said it's easy. On the contrary, I think it's pretty hard work and a long process to get this.

    Video is very informative, but please look into the sound, it recorded pretty awfuly, it's very very hard to listen and there's many words I just can't understand at all even after hearing them for several times. Try listening to the entire video yourself and see how it sounds

      As for feedback, I've listened again parts of the video and here's some examples: 8:26 for some reason volume goes down for a second, 8:40, 7:00. For example, the 2nd half of the video has no such issues.
