Drake's poetry is basically him being mad because Nicki Minaj didn't want to be romantically involved with him. What's most infuriating about these kind of books is the ones with lost potential. Take the soundtrack one for instance, "I am the soundtrack for lives that go on without me." That could be the start to a really cool piece about the experience of being known and you and your art being loved by millions while you have a connection with so few. Dick & Jane books had more thought put into their narrative. Dick and Jane had a baby sister named Sally, parents named "Mother" and "Father" a cat named Fluff and a dog named Spot. They didn't do a whole hell of a lot of interesting things, they ran, walked, ate breakfast, brushed their teeth, yadda, yadda, yadda, but it was far more entertaining than Drake's shower mental musings.
And pictures. The least he could have done is add pics or made it a popup book to appeal to it's target audience of self-professed Alphas who never stopped going through puberty.
The worst part is Drake pretty much says the exact same things in his music. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was just a collection of drafts from a studio session
It's always so interesting to me when people assume that, because they're talented / famous, people are interested in their "stream of consciousness". I've never found that sort of thing better or more interesting than something someone actually thought out, wrote down, and edited. 🤷♀️ ...it also strikes me as a lazy cash grab, so!
When I subscribed to you (I think you were at 19K) you spoke very poorly of your own writing ability and were too shy to read us any of your works. It's so lovely to see you become more confident and self-assured enough to accept the risk of people not liking something you made. I'm genuinely happy for you! Also my favorite book is Fire by Kristin Cashore, I think you'd really like it. It has a lot of themes of love, femininity, and misogyny, but also neurodivergence and exceptionality.
Halsey is a fantastic songwriter, the album if I can’t have love I want power is phenomenal, sonically and lyrically. And produced by nine inch nails too! In an interview Reznor said she wrote all the songs and brought them to him and he was so impressed and excited to work on them with her. I’m not surprised her poetry is great too! I should pick up her book
I’m pretty tolerant of pop poetry like Rupi Kaur because I think it has the potential to get young people interested in the genre. Mary Oliver, who was arguably a “pop poet” of the 90s, was the first poet whose work made me feel that transcendent, indescribable feeling, and made me want to write poetry myself. But this trend towards one-liner tweet poetry makes me so sad. To say nothing of the misogyny-which is already analyzed beautifully in this video-I don’t see how this would make anyone want to read more poetry. I support stretching the art form and exploring its bounds 100%, but this isn’t that. It’s a brainless cash grab.
i love how you were able to improve drake’s terrible poems [at least a bit] by thinking about it for literally a few seconds or minutes and offering changes! also i really enjoyed your poem and the other ones you shared as examples of better poetry!
There was something I learned early on in creative writing. It was 'don't fall so in love with your own work that you think it's perfect without any editing, something can always be improved upon.' Drake would do well to consider this. And secondly...why didn't he just use these as lines in his songs?? I think a lot of them would work so much better that way, though I'm not familiar with his music.
"Trees died for this!" Yes, exactly, Rachel! A broom would be better, I know. The fact that the spine tells you all you need to know about the content is ironic. It's the exact same comment I make when I see a big spider and I run.
I could write a book like Drake's. I'd call it "The Fella Abides", it could have random thoughts that don't rhyme and not take up a lot of space like "I hate when things fall on my exposed toes, but then when I realize it's not life threatening and sh!t happens The Fella Abides." and "I had an itch, scratched it 'till it bled, now my cat is licking it. Cats are weird but the Fella Abides."
He's always struck me as an extremely insecure and kinda nerdy guy who was desperate for street cred which, I think is a big part of what he hoped to acquire with this book. The really weird thing is that Drake appears to be pretty close to his mother. He serenaded her at a concert this summer and there's lots of photos of them together. Really curious what she thinks about this masterpiece.
Why is no one talking about how beautiful Rachel's poem was??? I LOVE all the fruit imagery and the image of eating twilight. Damn, that was beautiful. It was worth sitting through all of Drake's shitty poems to hear your beautiful one. Also, I love Rosetti too. I have an English degree and wrote about her in uni. "The Goblin Market" is one of my favorite poems, but I interpreted it to be about sexual violence rather than the dangers of female sexuality. I enjoyed hearing your interpretation!
At 1:26, I love how that image of stacked Drake's 'poetry' books reads "EEEEE NNNNNAAAAA" 😂 Like someone mentioned here, it perfectly describes the emotions of the book's readers. This image itself should be a warning to the buyers 😂 I believe that if Drake's 'poems' can get published, then someone can publish a response book consisting of some of the sassy comments here 😂

This book was Yes Manned into existence. All of these are song lyrics that didn't hit and some goon thought they were deep. He's so boring and eventhough he harasses younger girls, just like Nicki's husband, she still ain't wanna be with him. Actually it's amazing how many rap ladies want nothing to do with him. He can only get fans or girls. Sad.
My favorite book of all time is Harrow the Ninth. It's prose, but every sentence has more poetry to it than the entirety of this collection. A particularly evocative paragraph: "You looked at the blanketing bodies of the dead children of the Ninth House, were aware of yourself as an ova cluster of two hundred pinpricks of light. You were a sigil: you were an intermingled fire. The fluid was sucked from your sinus cavities, and with it your brain, soon disassembled. You were made small. You were a throat, you were an oven. The water was boiling hot and your skin was sloughing off you in reddened, shrinking frills; those pinpricks boiled within you, and the bodies boiled without-you were a hunger without a stomach. You felt the thanergetic pit inside the coffin, the curve of a childlike jaw, the pallid bow of a dead mouth. You did not understand yourself as standing, nor understood yourself as walking, but you were doing both. You were dying in that hot water; whatever wanted your meat suit could have it."

Haha ! Rachel has her flame-thrower out and I love it. I am not so familiar with British Rap but French rappers achieved recognition in the 1990s through the very, very high standard of their poetry. On top of my head, I am thinking of "Caroline" by M.C. Solaar "Je suis l'As de Trèfle qui Pique ton Coeur". I think he took inspiration from Serge Gainsbourg a lot, because Gainsbourg's lyrics were phenomenal. If you think of Françoise Hardy "Sous un aucun prétex-te je ne peux, devant toi surex-poser mes yeux, derrière un Kleenex je saurais mieux, comment de dire Adieu." Middle rhymes in -ex but never refering to what everybody thinks. Gainsbourg embraced rap in the early 80s. And the standard stayed very high _not for everybody of course. Slam got fashionable in the 2010s with people like Abdel-Malik (Gibr Al Tar) or Grand Corps Malade.
Finally, something worse from Drake than The Heart Part 6 and Taylor Made Freestyle. edit: speaking as a male hip-hop fan, I don't idolize Drake (never really did, his lyrics were weak, AND GHOSTWRITTEN), and I'm willing to bet that not a lot of people do now, given the beef between him and Kendrick (mentioning Kendrick's fiance, the whole AI Tupac thing, "I got a son to raise, but I can see you don't know nothin bout THAAAAT," "I hate the way that you walk, the way you talk, I hate the way that you dress," and of course "tryna strike a chord, and it's probably A MINOOOOOORRRR").
I like that you’re adding more of your sense of humor into your videos! Your content on mainstream poetry is some of your best work imo! Bc you use it to expose people to much better poetry. It helps make poetry more accessible! I hope you never stop making these (as long you enjoy doing it)!
Personally want to thank you, I’m working on my own poetry book and watching your reviews and reading your own is really helping me know what to do as well as what to avoid. Thank you, you’re really doing great work!
I think the beef and chicken one could work if he compared it to a dish with meat in it that the person can’t identify, or is mistaken about. If the dish is smothered in a vibrant sauce and mixed in with a lot of other ingredients, the person is so caught up in all the sauce, rice, veggies, they don’t realize they’re eating chicken and not beef.
"My talents include a pen. Your talents include a bed..." What I learned from Drake's poetry is that he must be terrible in bed if he thinks his writing is the talent he needs to highlight.
The "I can't see the signs hun, I left my glasses at home." could be a good start to a great poem but on it's own in a book with a lot of misogyny it just sounds like him making excuses for being a bad partner.
I can't tell you how excited I am to see another poetry review - I love the other content you've been putting out too but your poetry reviews will always have a special place in my heart, Rachel.
on that one-sided beef line: i think it could have been fire as part of a bar in a song. the interpretation rachel goes into could be supported really well by the context of a verse, maybe even working as a punchline at the end where the absurdity becomes cool
3:41 «this book is actually subtitled ‘Streams of consciousness’ which makes me a little concerned for how empty Drakes head must be» made me giggle. I’m sure you’re not alone in that

But, hotline bling was a hit, and with every meme, the video was used, shared, and watched. I genuinely hope he doesn't believe this poetry is good. And unlike Drake, you can have Dick & Jane books near children!
The worst part is Drake pretty much says the exact same things in his music. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was just a collection of drafts from a studio session
Exactly. He's a talentless hack that doesn't deserve fame.
lmaoo tha is more than possible
I remember he used to be referred to as "the sensitive one" or whatever too. 😆😆
It's always so interesting to me when people assume that, because they're talented / famous, people are interested in their "stream of consciousness".
I've never found that sort of thing better or more interesting than something someone actually thought out, wrote down, and edited. 🤷♀️
...it also strikes me as a lazy cash grab, so!
I’d for one never deign to sell *my* intrusive thoughts-why, it’s bad enough I get them for free!
@@warlordofbritannia This made me laugh out loud. Definitely relatable.
Wow this video has aged like a fine port
The issue is, there are barely any words to edit there
His music is horrible too. He can't sing worth a damn and just mumbles gibberish. Not worth your time.
You were ahead of all of us on that 😂
He should’ve asked the guy who ghostwrites his lyrics to contribute to this book
That'd be hilarious after he apparently had Quentin Miller blackballed.
"It's not funny.
It's not clever.
It's not original.
It's not true."
Bravo, Rachel! 👏👏 You're amazing!
you'd think such a "successful musician" like drake would have some concept of rhythm and rhyme.
“Makes me worried for how empty Drakes head must be” 🤭🤭😂
"Trees died for this!" Yes, exactly, Rachel!
3:40 ‘it’s titled streams of consciousness which makes me a little concerned for how empty drake’s head must be’ IM CRYING LMAODNSNDKF
...The one time he was honest about getting a ghostwriter, and this is what we got?
This image itself should be a warning to the buyers 😂
I believe that if Drake's 'poems' can get published, then someone can publish a response book consisting of some of the sassy comments here 😂
The book cover looks just like a Jeopardy question card.
The spine design doesn't matter as the target market is unlikely to have many books already.
it's really lovely getting to watch you grow into your own over the years - seeing the self promotion makes me happy every time just because i remember how downright anxious you seemed when you first started trying to make a habit of it X) love the work you do. seeing your videos still makes me smile (and i save the long ones for when im feeling down sometimes). so happy to see you hit 300k, congrats rachel 💓💓💓
A particularly evocative paragraph: "You looked at the blanketing bodies of the dead children of the Ninth House, were aware of yourself as an ova cluster of
two hundred pinpricks of light. You were a sigil: you were an intermingled fire. The fluid was sucked from your sinus cavities, and with it your brain,
soon disassembled. You were made small. You were a throat, you were an oven. The water was boiling hot and your skin was sloughing off you in
reddened, shrinking frills; those pinpricks boiled within you, and the bodies boiled without-you were a hunger without a stomach. You felt the
thanergetic pit inside the coffin, the curve of a childlike jaw, the pallid bow of a dead mouth. You did not understand yourself as standing, nor
understood yourself as walking, but you were doing both. You were dying in that hot water; whatever wanted your meat suit could have it."
"A stream of consciousness" The book from two people so asleep they don't realise how far behind society they really are.
1:27 that spine spelling out AAAA is a mood when talking about this guy 😂
Loving the sunset eyeshadow look!
Drake, what a legend, The self proclaimed "lesbian".
WHAT
@@Anindeterminateamountofbees just google "Girls Like Girls lyrics". If you don't have a gun in your mouth after reading the first verse, I would be legitimately impressed
19:50 oh man, I wasnt expecting to be reminded of myself a few years ago browsing r/inceltears in this poetry review lol Ive definitely had a similar experience of "holy shit I actually understand their hateful rapidly shifting nonsense terminology and Im barely phased by it if its not outright threats of CSA" in regards to incels even though I was going through a subreddit where the discourse around the statements in question was definitely anti-incel
yea no that first poem gave me one of the worst feelings I've ever felt. a red flag so big it felt like i got sacked on the head by one.
Oh it is Drizzy Drake! I didn't know Jimmy from Degrassi made "poetry". Rachel, i don't know how you find these topics but bravo to you
The unemployed hos working his nerves can't work due to child labour laws and they need lunch money. Really, he brought those problems onto himself
Lmaoo
Kendrick definitely saw this at some point.
I like that you’re adding more of your sense of humor into your videos! Your content on mainstream poetry is some of your best work imo! Bc you use it to expose people to much better poetry. It helps make poetry more accessible! I hope you never stop making these (as long you enjoy doing it)!
The cover looks like an operator's manual to a German packaging machine.
Why can't any celebrities just be normal
Egos
At least we have Keanu Reeves.
@@wiselioness322 Thank god for John Wick
Most of the ones who are aren't A-listers because they don't want to sell their metaphorical soul.
Normal people don't seek fame
aged well
Oh for some reason when i’ve heard you say “drakes poetry” I thought it was a different drake…. this is going to be even better than i expected lmao
Your talents include a bed..."
What I learned from Drake's poetry is that he must be terrible in bed if he thinks his writing is the talent he needs to highlight.
Drake the type of guy to write a poetry book
Jokes aside though. That cover is so basic and gives off exactly what the inside contents would be.
You shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but it’s wonderful when the cover matches the content
11:50 ... from the future this was like a line from the Kendrick track......wow! well done
The "I can't see the signs hun, I left my glasses at home." could be a good start to a great poem but on it's own in a book with a lot of misogyny it just sounds like him making excuses for being a bad partner.
I love the way you say "but" :]
I always take note of it and every time it's like that feeling when you scratch /just the right spot/
Rachel’s makeup is so gorgeous in this video! I love the orange and yellow. It looks lovely with her hair ❤
Really liked your verse that you shared.
I can't tell you how excited I am to see another poetry review - I love the other content you've been putting out too but your poetry reviews will always have a special place in my heart, Rachel.
Your eye shadow is everything. Always on point
I've loved Ashleigh Brilliants Pot-Shot short poems. Like:
You can never discard too many bad ideas.
on that one-sided beef line: i think it could have been fire as part of a bar in a song. the interpretation rachel goes into could be supported really well by the context of a verse, maybe even working as a punchline at the end where the absurdity becomes cool
I didn't think it was possible but this made me miss the days of "family is relatives"
😂😂
3:41 «this book is actually subtitled ‘Streams of consciousness’ which makes me a little concerned for how empty Drakes head must be» made me giggle. I’m sure you’re not alone in that
Had to be a cash grab. After seeing what celebs have gone through publishing this exact type of content, he knew it would catch eyes. Does he not remember being a meme for his dance moves? But, hotline bling was a hit, and with every meme, the video was used, shared, and watched. I genuinely hope he doesn't believe this poetry is good. I hope he wanted to catch attention and become a best seller through hate.
I mean we all know how the box office works, and with online shopping, you don't get much of a chance to flip through the book to check it out first.
you look stunning rachel omg love the makeup! so excited for a new video. that 3 hrs long was a doozy and i enjoyed every minute of it😭
Rachel improving misogynistic poetry but keeping the misogyny is not something I expected when I clicked this link but I'm not complaining
your poetry reviews are my favorite videos! I missed this!
