Witch hazel is NOT an emulsifier so straight essential oils will be added to the skin. Use a carrier oil for skin perfumes. A lab created emulsifier is required to mix oil & water --- unfortunately.
How do you make diy perfumes last? I've tried making eo perfume blends but they don't last long after application. Is there an ingredient I can add to make the scents last longer?
Several possible reasons why the scent doesnt last long. 1. the EOs used were all top to middle notes and no base note was included in the blend. Top notes last about an hour or less; Middle Notes last about 2-4 hours anb base notes 6-8 or longer. 2. The ratio between ingredients were off for fixatives, PGA, DPG, water and your EOs. 3.EO is bad due to possible mishandling or storing ... good luck and happy blending!
So I really want to achieve that coffee shop scent, and I wanna carry it everywhere with me, and I managed to get my hands on a coffee essential oil. What other oils can I use that won't overpower its scent or give it a more floral scent (which I'm trying to avoid), or can I just use the natural alcohol + the coffee essential oil on its own?
hahaha, my perfumers alcohol just came in today and I was joking with my roommate about our first perfume being my new coffee essential oil and then I run across your post ;-) so I had to chime in. I was going to try chocolate truffle essential oil and vanilla but if I do will it be dangerous? I mean how many people will start following me around asking where do I buy my morning coffee :-)
Partisan Black yes but there is a point (likely around the 20-30% oil concentration mark) of absolutely diminished returns. This point will vary for different scent ingredients, but the longevity and projection of 100% essential oil and a 30% oil 70% alcohol mix will likely be the same. Thus, anything over that 25-30% range is largely a waste of precious/expensive material. Save your money. Furthermore, sometimes, that addition of those light alcohol molecules is what gives the heavy molecules of the oils the “lift” needed to project into the air.
It's not so much the amount of alcohol, but the type of essential oil you use. If they are top notes, meaning they are very light like citrus oils, they flash off fast and the smell doesn't stay on your body very long. You could try using a carrier oil instead of alcohol to make them stay put on your skin longer or use a heavier/bottom note oil. You can usually tell heavier oils because it takes them longer to come out of the bottle when you try poring it. Hope that makes sense.
@@Sakshi-dn3xc You can't really use vodka. Vodka is only 50 percent alcohol and 50 percent water. Well, technically you could use it, but you would have to shake your diy perfume real good each time before you use it. And it might have trouble getting through a spray top/tube.
One time I used only ylang ylang in a roller bottle with some carrier oil and it does great. Just be careful about the spicy oils like cinnamon or clove.
Hallo. Does anyone know if some essential oil brands secretly mix them with perfume or synthetic fragrances? I recently bought a difusser which was fine until I bought a new set of oils that came from China. They claim to be 100% organic and pure but something seems off about these and I keep getting a wierd tingling/prickling sensation on the tip of my tongue. Does anyone know anything about this?
Throw them out, that prickling sensation is a symptom of nerve damage caused by poisoning! The same thing happens if you spray Raid and don't leave the room. Never buy essential oils from China if you can avoid it.
Nah u r good , just use a carrier oil instead of alcohol , also look up precautions for jasmine essential oil before applying to your skin , cuz some oils are photosensitive so might wanna go with light drops

Hi. I would love to know if there's a way to reverse perfume process? I mean by this extracting perfume essence from alcoholised perfume bottle. the reason is that some times you buy a perfume frm the market, you like the smell but it does not last long. so If I could get the oil essence from it it may last longer.
Tariq Osman Hi did you ever figure out how to reverse the process. I had the same question regarding one of my favorite perfumes I want to know what the notes are so I can make an oil version. Thanks!
You cant extract certain oils after its been mixed the only thing you can do is perhaps use molecule 01 or iso e super, spray it on the perfume you sprayed and it will make it last a bit longer but these arent naturals, theyre chemicall. The only perfumes that really last and are pure esential oils or extracts are the expensive niche ones unfortunately...
@@hojubaby Your statement is incorrect. Scents that last for days and sometimes weeks are generally big and heavy molecules. These synthetic molecules are purposely created by humans. Google for example ambroxan, sandalmysore, bacdanol.. etcetera
@@laurensspruit1647 was referring to longevity in extrait de parfums, but even they can fall short... thats why i suggested what i suggested, i dont like synthetic lab made fixatives etc but unfortunately those are the things that power up the fragrance (iso e super being one of them)
You can use just one if that's the smell you like. The reason she mentions three is that each one has a different molecular weight, so some smells flash off faster/sooner and heavier oils take longer to dissipate into the air.
I USE PLANT GURU DPG. IS AN EXCELLENT SOLVENT AND IS PLANT BASED. MY CLIENTS LOVE THE NON ALCOHOL BASED PERFUMES. IT INTEGRATES WELL WITH FRAGRANCE OILS AND ESSENTIAL OILS AND PERFUMES.
Of course, but all these "clean earth vegans" will shame you into using the most expensive glass bottles that cost $700 per glass so the turtles in the sea can live happily ever after (although a lot of these "clean earth freaks" eat all the creatures from the bottom of the ocean) lol. If you have a plastic bottle, it's fine to use and you can just reuse it when you're done.
If you are using pure oils they can breakdown those plastics, then you'll be spraying petrochemicals onto your body and breathing them in. It kind of defeats the purpose of a natural perfume.

What the hell? I have white sage growing in my yard, and alcohol in my medicine cabinet. Now how do I make some sage perfume? I don't need to run out and buy a bunch of oils when I have the ingredients here for free. Thx.
eqlzr2 you would need minimum 190 proof (95% pure) grain alcohol as the blending/carrying liquid. Everclear works. Then, you would need some extraction method to get the scent molecules out of the sage itself. Probably the tincture method is best/easiest, or perhaps cold pressing (but that is likely too difficult and would require a very large amount of ingredient). Do not use medicine cabinet isopropyl alcohol. It will not work properly.
Isn’t a carrier oil better than witch hazel? Or even an ever clear alcohol?
Not when using a spray perfume....only when your going to do a roll on.
