    I’ve done a few of these B8 CAEB motors now and I agree it’s just a pita if you don’t completely remove the front carrier.. but you don’t need to evacuate and recover the R-134a system the condenser can be removed from the radiator support and swung out of the way with disconnecting the pressure switch.. I just carefully set it out to the left side and then remove the carrier .. no problems at all

    This is probably one of the best 2.0tfsi timing vids cause it's all recorded live and very little is cut and edited. Good stuff....book marked!

    Really good video. I appreciate it. I have a question. I’m not an Audi mechanic. I work on stuff in the driveway. And I’m doing the timing chain and guide rails and everything you’re doing on a family members vehicle. And I got the motor to top dead center and locked in the cams and took off the chain. And the only thing that I’m seeing is that both of my timing marks on the cams are actually at the bottom. And everybody else’s videos that I’m seeing they are at the top. This thing was really out of timing. And I wasn’t sure if I could roll the exhaust cam and the intake cam right or left because everybody’s always saying only clockwise. But if I follow your video to the T, it seems like I’m gonna be able to spin the cams to line up the chains? But have you seen that before we’re both marks on the cams have been facing down instead of up, with the motor top dead center? Thank you in advance.

    Great video. You took the time to explain the areas that were important and skimmed over the areas that were treated with common sense.

    Why would you drain the A/C?
    There’s a reason that the condenser if fed by high pressure rubber hose
    You can just swing it to the side and do the work

    I'm not a mechanic nor as good as you are, but I would've swapped out the balance shafts due to the failure rate that I'm sure you know by now...Great video. Love the platform, hate the problems. Keep 'em coming!👍

      @@tonymacias3523Thank you! It’s a lot to text but I’ll began with a little. I’m by no way a top notch mechanic. Especially on an Audi. 🤦🏽‍♂️ But my aunts car started having some issues and she’s strapped for cash, so I took the job on for her. Well now I’m wishing I woulda said NO WAY. But any how, I got everything lined up just like this video boss shown me to do. But I had the cam locks in and went to put the chain & sprocket. So when I went to put the chains around the cams, I noticed my hash marks, or timing marks for the cams were pointing down instead of up like most of the other videos. In them videos they’d adjust their cams just a little and boom. They’d line up. Well mine didn’t line up and my motor was TDC. So I decide to turn the cams with the cam locks off. 🤦🏽‍♂️ Bad idea, I did get them facing more toward the top to match chain notches a little bit more, But I turned the exhaust cam and it was hard. Then kinda did a lil pop and turned some more. I was gonna keep turning these cams, but I’m forcing them to turn and I did not want to keep doing that. I can show pictures where my time marks are. I’ve got everything lined up perfect on the oil pump and the crankshaft sprocket, all those arrows lined right up. I got all that matched up perfect. It’s just when I went and matched the arrow up at the bottom of the crankshaft, when I got the chain to the top two cams, I had one hashmark on intake cam Facing at 7 PM and then I had the exhaust one facing at about 9 PM so they did not match up at all, so I tried to turn them to match them and like I said, that exhaust was taking a little too much pressure for me to turn. I don’t wanna damage the motor further. If I haven’t already. Thank you in advance. I don’t know if we’re supposed to give each other’s phone numbers on RUclips? but if there’s a way you could speak on the phone, I can give you my phone number? But I’m about to go out there in this heat and mess with it again cause she’s without a car, I really need to get it going for her. My name is BRANDON by the way. Thank you very much for any help. 🙏🏼

    Done this a couple time on these CAEB's, and the timing setup and skipping of he chain is frustrating as when you get everything line up, your crank timing sometimes are off a 1/2 tooth.

    Are there any basic settings/adaptation values that need to be reset via VCDS, OBDeleven, etc? I was at -8.71 for the Camshaft adaptation intake bank 1 phase position, with a fully extended tensioner, when I had my chain replaced. Now I have one device showing a healthy -.92 for phase position, but another giving an odd value of 29.0°F. Not sure what to make of that.

    • @gowithaci8113
      @gowithaci8113  7 месяцев назад +1

      Technically no. But you can use VCDS/OBD11 to reset chain elongation adaption if applicable. Not all cars support it. Audi would have supported it earlier than VW.

    Got a 09 Audi a4 with a p0016. Did the chain and checked timing 5 different times and pulled the covers off multiple times and timing is always on point. My split is at 126 and my center to intake is at 62.2 at tdc. I have exactly 9 links between both cam marks. Replaced the cam adjustment magnet and solenoid and camshaft and still the same damn code p0016. Need help!!!

    I know nothing about timing. When you say it should be +5/-5, is that from 0??

    • @gowithaci8113
      @gowithaci8113  Год назад

      We are talking about chain deflection. So technically the cam timing deflection will never be 0. So on the scan tool you will see the measurement as low -5 or as high as +5. That’s the maximum values allowed to be safe. Normal running deflection is between -1.7/+2.4. That’s the range I see. And remember that number should stay static while running. If it’s jumping around you have either something wrong or the wrong IDE value picked. Any other questions, feel free find us on Facebook, Instagram and our website @gowithaci. Thank you for watching.

      @gowithaci8113 thanks for the response. I ask because I have a 2014 2.0 Q5 and just had some timing and motor work done 2 weeks ago. I have a Bluetooth scan tool and my timing doesn't have steady values. I've seen it jump up to 12° while idling, but thought that was normal since it just came back from the shop. Time to take it back!

    I’m in the process of figuring out my timing now 2012 A4 2.0, car was running rough and had a pretty loud tapping with P0016 fault.. after removing both timing covers. Timing has been done very recent, I bought the car with the issue, I checked timing and seems everything is ok.. only thing is I measure 70mm instead of 61-64mm and 125mm across, do you think it’s out of time? I’m about to remove the cam tray for further damage that previous owner maybe didn’t want to address

    I do NOT understand why you just didn’t put it in Service Position? Pull bumper cover, headlights & trays. A few plugs, bolts, etc and the whole front clip swings down giving TONS of access to front of motor. No messing w/ boost hoses or coolant hoses. Easy as hell
