    Looking good Jill. My poor tomatoes are done. I'll be replanting for Fall. I know you can dehydrate and powder the skins, but my chickens really love them and they help hold down feed costs.

    Good Morning!
    Up here in Iowa Park TX we got a couple inches of rain and strong winds from 4am to 9. Praise God!
    Was waiting for your video.
    Have you ever canned green tomatoes? I didn't have very good luck with my garden this season but going to try for a fall one.
    Grasshoppers have been literally a plague!

    Learning to can and preserve our food has become top priority in my home. This is truly my heart’s desire! I’ve always been afraid of pressure canning but this canner sounds like a great start! Praying I’ll get my hands on one very very soon! Great video thank you so much for sharing! God bless you!

    Just FYI, I've been using a Carey smart canner and a Nesco smart canner recently. I love them both! I can't say enough about them. Yes, they are small, however, there are numerous reasons for people to use them vs regular regular canners.

    I will be canning my tomatoes this year. I have 2 gallon freezer bags full and pretty sure enough to fill another. The tomato plants are looking pretty sad, but they're still producing.
    I thought the canner looked neat. I wish it was made in the USA. I was thinking of adding another one to my collection.

    I always pack my tomatoes into the jars and never add water. You'd be surprised how many tomatoes fit into a quart jar!

    Good morning! Down here by Georgetown we haven't got any rain. The ground is cracking all around our garden. While we were out of town our daughter kept up on our garden and today I am canning so your video came in so handy!

    I’m going to also pressure can my tomatoes this year. Way less time than water bathing for me. I’m in high altitude so it’s a crazy amount of time to water bath. ❤ I wish I had bought a Denali instead of a presto as my backup canner. I use my American and I love it. My presto has become my broth making pot only.

    I have some Roma's to pick and will be canning this week. I learned from another RUclips channel about putting cherry tomatoes (halved) in the oven and bake them to remove most of the water and then puree them. She was making a pizza sauce. I have to go back and get the recipe and give it a try the next time I have an abundance of cherry tomatoes. It looked a lot easier than what I did for tomato sauce. Any way, preserving our harvest is key.

      Yes, someone sent me that video on making pizza sauce with cherry tomatoes. I’m gonna have to really check into that. Thank you for reminding me.

    Well, If I had a Jill to hang out with me for a couple of rounds, then I would be confident. But, the only live pressure canning I have ever been around was my Grandparents...andddd...I said, after watching Granddaddy get the lid out of the celling - NOPE! 😆😆

    I'm going to look into a canner like yours. I'm afraid that when I slowly go down to keep it at the right pressure, that is when I'm going to mess up. I want to can my hot pepper, beans, and some other vegetables I will be growing for next year season if I have the money. Since I'm disabled that doesn't give a while money to play with. I have all wanted to learn to can different vegetables.

    I’m doing the same thing Jill but definitely on a smaller level 😊I use my Nesco / Cary electric canner and it’s wonderful .. namely because I don’t have to baby sit it .. plus you don’t have to heat up the kitchen in this wonderful Texas heat !
    Your tomatoes look awesome thanks for the great videos 🤗

    Love the rain...doesn't matter if it's only 17 drops!! I had 1/8" one day and the same the next. I laughed and laughed...purple hull peas jumped up and cranked out blooms all over the place. I thought they were on their way out.
    Good info and simple step by step. Thanks Jill. Question on your chickens....will you at some point start processing your own chickens? I would like to do that but I don't think I could kill them. If anyone has any suggestions, I'll sure listen. Jesus bless.

    Does topping off with water serve a purpose? I've always just gone up to the 1" mark with debubbled tomatoes. I think I like your idea of topping off with water.

    • @ntxg
      @ntxg  Год назад

      The purpose it really serves is getting the jars to a certain temperature so when I put them in the canner, they don’t break. That saves me a little time from putting them in warm water and letting it heat up to temp before starting the process. I think I’ll do water bath moving forward

    May I ask why you use citric acid when pressure canning tomatoes?

    • @ntxg
      @ntxg  Год назад +1

      You need it because the tomatoes are not acidic enough to stay safe sister
