- when i first saw that achilles animation by toastyglow i made it my personal mission to get these two back together and when i finally did i just really had to make this ksjdsdjksd

OH THIS IS PERFECT. This might be my favorite patrochilles reunion art I've ever seen!! The care taken with the backgrounds, the music, their faces,,, the wide shot at the end and the way the drop to the ground together,, UGH I LOVE IT

WHY
The Song of Achillies broke my heart and this is healing it.
I had to look closely but Achilles didn’t just run and hug him. He ran over and jump into his arms. They pulled back and kissed before grasping onto each other again. And then Achilles pulled Patroclus down, so overwhelmed to see him and Patroclus had his hand up, comforting him before hugging again, melting into each other’s arms.
Bro I am CRYING. Seeing the strong and calm Achilles grasping onto the cold and stoic Patroclus comforting him, so overwhelmed that they need to hug and kiss and look at the others face all at the same time.
This is awesome. The pure emotion you put into this is overwhelming

Oh this is wonderful. I love that, with the distance shot you can't see all the details but the movements are clear, so you can take Achilles' words of "it looks mournful" when they fall to the ground and be like, if you had no context "maybe they're mourning something" But they ain't ;v;

How the hell am I supposed to find love when I have this standard to work with now-
I just let out the softest "oh" when they embraced. You did a fantastic job at evoking the right emotions for this.

I BARELY even know the game and yet this still made me start sobbing, the way that Achilles starts running, and even in the far-out shot when we can barely see them, you can still tell how much emotion there is. PERFECT

I absolutely adore this! The way Achilles just starts running the moment he can, the way they fall together, the long shot frame that make it seem like we're looking in at a private moment from afar! It's amazing 😍

Everything about this is perfect. Expressions, emotions, that shot from far away when 'camera' was still moving slightly. I have no words to express my feelings about it. It's just perfect.
This is a lovely animatic. I really like the way they embrace, kiss, then embrace even tighter. And then Achilles' knees buckle, probably from all the anxiety leaving his body at once, and how Patroclus catches him and hugs him close again. It's so, so cute.
That’s it. Song of Achilles is cannon in Hades and nothing anyone says will convince me otherwise
This game's version of Achilles contrasts greatly from the one told in the story of the Trojan War; bloodthirsty, easily enraged and barbaric in his treatment of the enemy, civilians and even corpses. :P
this aspect of achilles' character is something that has definitely been touched on and hinted at throughout the game, much like with Artemis and Callisto, where there are only hints at Callisto's turning into a bear but nothing in explicit detail. both of them also get happier endings: Achilles ends up with Patroclus and Artemis with Callisto, so I don't think what you claim is something exclusive to Achilles nor is it the full picture of his treatment in this game. I think the game's decisions with Achilles' character invites further exploration on the themes of guilt and change (especially when Achilles has had forever in the afterlife to dwell on his actions in life. in his words in the codex, all souls are equal in the end in death or something like that). such explorations of his more violent character have definitely been done, but if that's what you're after here, you may have to look somewhere else, as what i made just covers his reunion with patroclus. 45 seconds isn't a lot of time for full character exploration so i hope you find what you look for elsewhere
It could even be based off how Achilles changed by the time Odysseus sees his shade in The Odyssey. Apparently after being dead for some time, Achilles wished he'd taken the quiet peaceful life and not the short glory-hungering one. Hades' Achilles feels like an extension of that.

Oh that's what he meant by "two souls together in one spot", they were embracing or hugging. I didn't get what he meant until I watched this animation.
this actually made me watch a 24 minute video of all their dialogue, and then i rewatched this, and actually cried... blast.

I love how Achille’s just collapses after the first hug n kiss onto Patroclus. Like the intangibility of their meeting being possible was too much for him to handle. Only for Pat to hold him and they embrace one another in reassurance that it is.

I actually cannot get over how emotive and stunning this looks and feels. The expressions! Brief but feels so full and I love every second. The details you put into the background! I absolutely adore them. This feels truly cinematic. Amazing work. I hope you do more in the future!

Okay so since I don’t see anyone else commenting on this detail- Patroclus’s surprise
When Achilles tosses/drops his spear and starts sprinting, you added those little lines to indicate surprise- BECAUSE THIS WHOLE TIME PAT THOUGHT ACHILLES HAD JUST ABANDONED HIM. He assumed Achilles was in Elysium but never bothered to seek him out. It’s not until his conversations with Zag (specifically the one before he says “risk it all”) does he realize that Achilles traded his place in Elysium to Patroclus. But even in that conversation, he says “IF what you said is true”.
Pat also moves towards Achilles, but he barely takes a single step- he’s hesitant.
Even seeing Achilles manifest in front of him and start running towards himself, his anxiety is still feeding him the thought “the one you love doesn’t care about you” since it’s how he interpreted Achilles absence for an untold number of ages.
Until he feels Achilles embrace- that’s when he knows everything Zagreus told him is true and his head was lying to him.
Achilles never has to even say “I’m sorry, I should have listened. You were right and I was a fool”- his tears say it for him.
Patroclus accepts the non-verbal apology- by grabbing Achilles cloak and pulling his love towards himself during their first reunited kiss.
And you know-
The fact that Achilles is so overwhelmed by this, his knees buckle but Pat keeps holding on to him and kneels down with him- keeping his fall controlled and graceful. Giving the emotional puddle (aka Achilles) a kiss to comfort him.
hdhdjdjjdjdhdj ;A; thank you so so much for the wonderful comment!! i've said something similar before, but after posting this i really regretted drawing so many details (especially the last shot!) so small and i was so worried the detail would get lost with it. I'm in awe of the amount of analysis you managed from what I made ;A; I had Pat's hesitance and shock in mind but you were able to put it into words so well, which I couldn't while making this hdjsjsj and I really love the insight in Pat's line of thought leading to his conclusion of Achilles abandoning him. 😅 I actually forgot that part but now that you've brought it up it really does cement the weight of their reunion even more doesnt it?
