A lovely video in your beautiful house! A Christmas Carol is a favorite reread each year on Christmas Eve. Wishing you a happy Christmas Kate. Looking forward to 2025 and many videos to come.
Thank you for watching and I have so many ideas for next year. I wanted to look into the Dickens and Brontes connection as I knew Charlotte wasn't a fan. Making this video allowed me to do that, yippee.
I'm a huge Charles Dickens fan and love how gracious he was about Charlotte. Your lovely evocative videos have been a real bright spot for me this year, and to quote Charles Dickens ~ A merry Christmas to everybody! A happy New Year to all the world!
Thank you so much for your kind words. I am definitely putting more Dickens books on my TBR list for 2025. I love classic novels and it’s about time I dipped into some of his other work.
Love the Dickens history, but I particularly admire your fireplace! It just looks so cozy and Christmas-perfect. Best wishes to you and yours this holiday season.
I am one of those people that could sit very close to a fire and never get too hot so I was more than happy to spend my morning making this video next to it. Glad you enjoyed it and festive best wishes to you too.
Thank you for this video! I love this topic, it's so beautiful to see how much of an impact our beloved stories have in the world even so many years later 🥲
Thank you for watching and I agree, Dickens would never know what an impact that story had on the world and for so many years after. Like the Brontes and their writing.
Health and happiness for you too Kate; Merry Christmas. Thank you for the Brontesisters, and all the joy and interest it brings. It was a moving comment made by Dickens when Charlotted died.A Christmas Carol is re read every Christmas, and my favourite film version is the animated one with Alistair Sim. I do struggle a bit with the rest of his books, but feel could happily read anything sitting by that lovely fire!
Thank you. I think the comment after Charlotte's death was a lovely one. I plan to watch the 1950 version today with my daughter, she's never seen it and I think she will love it. Merry Christmas.
Thank you for such a festive and heartwarming video 🙏🎄 The fireplace was so soothing. Lovely to hear what Charles Dickens wrote after Charlotte's death🙏Thank you for your joyous, fascinating videos! ✨ Wishing you and all your viewers a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful, abundant New Year! 🎉❤🎀
I am sure I spent too much time thinking, reading and planning for my videos. But...I love doing it. Thank you again for your support and lovely comments.
The effort that you put into making the videos shows. They look so professional but your enthusiasm makes them so special. Thanks for the joy you bring.....Merry Christmas 🎅
@@brontesistersuk There were also one or two mentions to Elizabeth Gaskell, author of North and South. I loved the 2004 BBC's tele adaptation with Richard Armitage and Daniela Denby-Ashe. So that would make it the fabulous 5+.😊 Merry Christmas 🎉 & a happy New Year 🎊

Merry Christmas, Kate! A Christmas Carol has always been a favorite of mine. I have never watched the Muppet's Christmas Carol, because it offended my Dickensian purity! However, I have heard very good things about it, so- in the interest of balance, I might give it a go! The connections you made between these two brilliant writers, ('The Bronte sisters were in their 20's when Dickens was writing') is breath-taking, and makes the connections somehow more alive and real, if that makes sense? That Elizabeth Gaskill acted as a 'bridge' between them; what a discrete diplomat, she seems to have been! is it just me, or do you ever wonder if Charlotte had a bit of a crush on Thackery...until she met him, and that did not seem to go well...for either of them? Lovely to see you warm and cosy, at home-rather than freezing in some Church yard! lots of love, sue xxx
I grew up with the Muppets and so to merge three of things that make me happy, The Muppets, Christmas and Dickens's A Christmas Carol is a winner. It actually uses quite a few quotes from the book. Do try it and laugh a lot. I wanted people to see that Dickens and the Sisters were around at the same time and they would have know about the popularity of his book. Thank you got watching. Merry Christmas.
That impact’s still alive. I read my classics, offer loads of homemade Christstollen to friends, neighbours and clients. And prepare smoking bishop and mince pies. I’m german living in France...🤣
@brontesistersuk And to you! I cherish the Brontë 's sisters' œuvre (also the poems) and Dickens' works. Non autumn without the heights or Jane Eyre or the tenant, no Christmas without Dickens. Thank you for your dedicated work.
Merry Christmas! This was a lovely video. I do have to agree with Charlotte on Charles Dickens, I know he was paid by the word but I find it very hard to read him. I loved A Tale of Two Cities only to find out later on that it was a deviation on his regular style. I have tried to read a Christmas Carol since my favourite Christmas movie is the 1951 Alastair Sim A Christmas Carol, but I find it hard going, short as it is. I seem to have a problem with make Victorian authors. Thank you so much for your lovely video!
My husband is the same, he can't get on with Charles Dickens's style of writing. I am saving the 1951 version to watch with my daughter who did the book this year at school. I hope she likes it as much as I do. Thank you for watching and Merry Christmas. x
Yes, I’ve seen how they have used the Parsonage, it’s great it was used for both the old and the new version. I love The Railway Children film (original one the most).
A lovely video indeed ! I have just finished reading, rereading a Christmas Charol by charles dickens, I read it with a video reading, some kind of audiobook, it’s great since english is not my native language, it makes the reading much more lively and easy to follow, so I keep thevtext undrr my eyes and...my headphones as well😊. I received a couple of days ago ”devoirs de Bruxelles ” by emily Brontë, I am in awe at her fantasic command of the French language! By the way, I was relieved to see you struggling with a word😅, it happens to me so often ! Looking forward to your next video !
Thank you for watching and yes, I am always struggling with words. It drives me mad and sometimes it is the silliest of words I struggle with. What a great way to improve your English, love being read to so this would work for me as well. Merry Christmas.
I wonder if they followed the tradition of a Christmas pudding mentioned by Dickens and who would have made it? Tabby or Emily? Or would Tabby, Charlotte, Emily and Anne all have gathered in the kitchen to be a part of its making?
I imagine Emily would have made it but under the strict instruction of Tabby. Maybe not the Dickens style pudding but some form of plum pudding I would have thought. Xx
@@brontesistersuk My favorite movie version of A Christmas Carol is the one with Alister Sim. I watch it every year. One of my favorite parts is where they talk about the Christmas pudding. В России больше отмечают Новый год, примерно как в Европе Рождество, но без религиозной части, а Рождество - так, проходит мимо. Так что книги английских писателей кажутся очень уютными

'Two iconic writers, the Brontes and Charles Dickens...' That would make at least three.
