Two five stars for me were Snowglobe by Soyoung Park and The Weight of Blood by Tiffany D. Jackson. Snowglobe takes place in a dystopian future where the entire planet has frozen over and there’s this giant dome where the rich live but they basically have to live this Truman Show type life to be able to stay there. If their show doesn’t perform well, then it’ll get cancelled and they get kicked out to live in the tundra. But the main character, Chobahm, is a girl who idolizes this one celebrity, Haeri and looks identical to her. One day, Haeri’s producer comes to the MC and tells her that Haeri is dead but the show has to continue so Chobahm is going to replace her. It has a lot of twists and turns and it was so good, can’t wait for the sequel whenever that comes out and gets translated.
And The Weight of Blood was also surprisingly good. It’s a retelling of Carrie which I read afterwards. “Carrie” is a biracial girl named Maddy who has spent her entire life passing as white and being bullied for being different until one day her secret is revealed and she discovers her telekinetic powers. I really enjoyed it and honestly I kinda liked it a little more than Carrie because you spend more time with the characters. A lot of people called it a rip off but I think she did a really good job of combining details from Carrie with her own ideas, like Maddy being covered in white paint for pretending to be white instead of pig blood because Carrie got her period

the best book I read recently was Icarus by K. Ancrum - the ending as well as the author's note made me bawl my eyes out!
