I know this video is old but I still have mine. Admittedly don’t ride much at all any more. This was my upgrade after my 620 Monster. Absolutely love this bike!
Hey folks! Thanks for watching and hitting that like button! 11/2021 update: I did have one major issue recently around 35k miles. While riding, my ABS light would turn on while the speedometer and odometer stopped working. It would happen periodically, until finally stayed that way. Months of troubleshooting. Finally determined it was the ABS Module. Very expensive part, but found one used. Hope this helps if any fellow F800 riders have this problem!
My dash did the same. The ABS light would flash and the Speedo and rev counter then shut down. In my case the rectifier/regulator had failed therefore feeding an over voltage to the dash. It seems the dash was shutting down to protect itself. A replacement used Rec/Reg sorted it out.
Splendid! Thank you for a realistic and down-to-earth review of these great BMW motorcycles. They, along with the 650 singles are a little different to what many expect of a German bike, but good in their own way nonetheless. I was so amused by your comment that Harley riders probably would not bother to wave...and there I was thinking that Americans were always oh so polite!
Hey there I’m the new owner of your beloved f800st I bought her a few weeks ago and have been doing inspections and maintenance for the spring. She’s still in beautiful condition. Thank you for taking good care of her ❤
Great review. Thanks! I’ve been riding a 2007 ST for a few years now and I love it. It’s pretty light and nimble and the Rotax engine provides lots of torque. The signals really bugged me so I swapped the horn button with the signal cancel one. Now I can cancel the signal with my left hand and that’s much better!
Great review and spot on. Just bought one of these myself. It’s great! Does pretty much everything very well. It’s a great looking bike as well. Even my daughters think it looks cool.
Great review. I just bought a 2017 F800GT down here in Sydney, Australia - and did a 300Km (185 mile) coastal and mountain ride on it last weekend. Awesome all-rounder and partner friendly! I previously had a Yammie MT09 and needed to tone things down a bit.... :)
Thank you for the review. Having never ridden a bigger (than 150cc) twin engine, I was worried about vibrations since I was coming to this bike from an inline 4. But the vibrations are not any worse, while the torque improvement is great! More importantly, thank you so much for the book recommendation! I just borrowed it from my library and the first few pages have been very engaging. I love the band so I can't wait to get an intimate look inside their lyricist's mind.
I bought a used 2012 as my commuter just love it! Great bags I wish they kept using. They are narrow for lane splitting but can expand to hold helmet and gear. Newer bikes have TFTs and there’s always someone faster but handling and the torque on this middle weight bike makes both road trips and riding in traffic a breeze!
Great review. One for sale locally at giveaway price. Only thing stopping me is I have other bikes but obviously watching reviews means I'm still tempted
I’ve heard the 800gt’s get a lot smoother after 8,000 miles. Grip puppies may also help with vibrations. I test road an older 800gt. I’d love to try the new one, as well as the 1250rs
I've had numerous bikes over the years and have a 2018 Triumph Bonneville T120 currently...it's an excellent bike and I'm not selling it, but found an excellent condition 2009 F800ST locally that I'm considering for longer journeys. The Bonneville is awesome on back roads but I don't love it on the highway. Seems like everyone that posts videos that have these ST's really enjoy them and they seem reliable. Any advice or problems areas to watch out for? The one I'm looking at is a 2009, as I said, with 23k miles. Thanks
Thank you for this short and comprehensive review! Looking to add this bike to my stable as they have depreciated significantly, but as you say, you get a lot of engineering for your buck.
I ve got the f800gs (my 1st proper bike) for 14,5 years now so It feels like I already own the ST.. Pretty satisfied from the GS, apart from an ECU failure which I sorted on 2020. If I aquire it I might make a comparison. 👍@@GreatMotorcycleRoads
Beautiful bike, i'm on my second one. if you can, get the black engine not the grey one, grey ones get piston slap over 30k miles, but are still good to use, black engines have different pistons and no piston slap. Yep, change exhaust for a better sound, love the indicator set up, unlike many!! 64mpg (uk) however i ride it, carefully or enthusiastically... just did a 2.5k mile tour round Europe in 7 days and 8 countries on it, never missed a beat.
Thanks for this Video. I drive the same Model (also same colour, same cases) since 2013. It is a very reliable motorcycle. It only has 85 HP, but it is much lighter than a 1000cc or bigger bike. And the prarallel Twin has much Torque. So very competitive with bigger bikes. Good enough for 230 kmh (143 mph). I love it. Greetings from Germany.
dietrich engel thanks for your comment. I failed to mention in the video the Scorpion exhaust did in fact bump up the horsepower. Not a lot, but definitely enough to notice a difference
if you put it on a dyno you'll find it probably has more, they underestimated the BHP on this motor. K&N air filter does the job and smooths out the snatchy throttle at low speed too. Great bikes, aren't they! Likewise, blue is the future. ;)
Did you get your aftermarket exhaust online? I've been looking around for one but have found that the market seems to be kind of lacking in terms of slip on exhausts. I know arrow makes an exhaust and akrapovic did at one point but I can't find them.
Got the Scorpion exhaust on eBay. Then put a Remus on this past year. Bought from F800 forum, there are occasional slip on exhausts for sale on those sites
Looking to trade a low Sargent seat for a standard Sargent seat for this bike. If anyone has this bike and wants to trade seats please comment and connect with me
What's with the compulsive desire of boys to make noise with their motorcycles? Get a bicycle and clothes pin a playing card in the spokes! (like all the other kids).

six years in on one of these. Best bike I have had in 40 years. One word: Torque.

Thanks for the comment. I’ve got to say, after riding a BMW for a few years now, most riders by far do the wave out here!
My brother has an F800ST. Occasionally when we go for a ride together we will swap bikes. I am always happy to get back on my Hayabusa.
thenks for this very nice review mate. allot of importent information i love that. just bought on lately. the bikes are still amazing!

Just snagged a 2012 for 4200 and I'm loving it
Nice
Honest and great review. Plan to take mine around Australia next year after lockdown. Have the 09 model, and it has never let me down.
I appreciate this detail review...I’m looking at this bike now & this gave me a good idea of if I want this bike
Loved intro music from "RASH". Yes Neil was great motorcycle inspiration

Good to see a Mass. rider out there.
I am looking at a 2013 new old stock one now. Looks like a great bike.
I'm up in the Worcester Hills myself.

Seth,
Thanks for the review. What are you riding today?
Gord
Rush! Test For Echo. Nice choice of music dude! And I've read that book.😊
Right on bro! Thanks
Great review! Very useful as im looking at buying one of these here in Australia.
Yeah same with me, tempted by one for sale locally
Excellent video mate
Thanks for the review, looking for buying one in France.

Great info, thanks for the feedback. That sounds like a fantastic road trip, well done!
Not much difference....mine07 f800st..65000kms...brilliant bike after all these years...shame on BMW for dropping
Great review

Nice job...I recently started a RUclips channel as well...keep posting content. I subscribe. Hopefully the channel grows.
Thanks for the great review. Can you tell me what model the silver BMW helmets is at 00:43 please? I love it.
Sure it’s a BILT model BLH5/936
Nice review. Thinking of a GT or ST later this year.
I would go for the GT, they made a few minor upgrades for more comfortable riding
love my GT, 2017 = quality
How often do you do valve clearance checks on yours? Ever got anything out of spec? Cheers
Just did it this year, so far so good
Are the years with black engine better than the grey. Related to clunky transmission and piston slap?
Hey, thanks for the comment! I’m really not sure perhaps someone else in this thread may know better?
You said you get about 190 miles before filling up. Has the fuel light come on at that point Or have you run it close to empty?
180-190 miles would be very close to empty
Did you get your aftermarket exhaust online? I've been looking around for one but have found that the market seems to be kind of lacking in terms of slip on exhausts. I know arrow makes an exhaust and akrapovic did at one point but I can't find them.

Revzilla.com has the Arrow slip-on for the ST
Have you had engine stalling issues?
Yes was stalling at stop lights, replaced fuel pump, seems to have fixed the issue
Couple hundred miles?! You must have been a spoiled kid… nice bike, enjoy it!
Nice video, but didn't like the exhaust sound...
Exhaust sound is subjective but yes some bikes have a sort of uninspiring vacuum cleaner like tone.

The Rt’s will last ... 200k miles is nothing. Oil Service is important for every bike!! Run it warm!!
I took my 2007 F800ST to a few track days this year. Here's a video from my beginner class: ruclips.net/video/d0R2bVl5OaU/видео.html&t
