I've owned this bike for 10 years now. It is without doubt the best touring bike ever made. I did take it on the track for a day. I got nobbles on the tyre edges and brake fade on the last laps of the day. Yes I boiled the brake fluid and cooked the tyres. At the start of the session the other track users laughed and smiled at me. But by the end of the day I got the nod of respect. It wasn't the fastest bike on the track but we overtook plenty and witnessed riders trying so hard, they came off. The bike's technology has taken care of me and kept me upright. THE best advise I can give to any K1300Gt owner, is don't cheap out on the tyres. I use Metzler M7RR front and rear. The bike eats tyres anyway. The acceleration is astonishing and I need totally trust these tyres on hard bends too.
He is 100% correct about the tires. The last pair I had were pilot fives by Michelin and they seemed pretty good but whatever people say is the best whatever you feel is the best for your style is correct but do not cheap out.
Very nice bike. For me, I would not care what bike I have. The feel of the wind on my face, an the long road ahead. The sound of the motor an exhaust in your ears. Heaven.
In Germany the K1300 series are holding their value incredibly good. The GT was 17.000€ new and a good 10 year old one with 40.000km on the clock will still cost you 12.000€ today
The new 1600 is so nice but the sad thing is that many of those stories we've heard about BMW not being reliable are true, so I can't see spending all that money on a bike I can't trust to take me across the country. I just don't understand why BMW can't build a more reliable product, the cars and bikes of theirs that I have seen first hand, were constantly going back to the dealer for things to be fixed, usually small stuff but sometimes major transmission things would take them down. They ride so nice, but that reliability problem is just too great of a worry if I want to travel several thousand miles on a trip.
Maybe buy an older K-bike with the longitudinal 4.. I have a 98 and a 2003, all they need and like is oil, gas, tires and brakes, and lots of riding! Cheers! Maybe that's what's wrong, people don't take care of them properly.. nor ride them enough. I hear the oil/air heads are quite dependable as well! Best bike ever BMW! Ride safe all! : -)
Great video Shawn. Normally I'm not a BMW fan, but more because of the boxer engines they usually come with. They might be reliable and smooth but I've always loved and will always choose a inline 4 over anything else. I've got to admit I like this BMW though. It looks like it would be just about the perfect sport touring machine.

Adjusting suspension for a passenger on the fly would be handy if you forgot to adjust before you took off. And now you are on a road full if switch backs
The trouble with this bike is, is that dry sump engine and the cooling system that's a pain in the ass to recharge. The r1200 yes is a ditch pump, but those things are air cooled and simple to maintain.
BMW has great bikes, but servicing them is much more complicated than on most Japanese bikes. I owned a R1150RT and now a FJR. Big difference in maintenance time and cost.
Out of curiosity, Did this bike have a record on the critical preventative maintenance done on the splines available for the next buyer to keep in mind before making the purchase? or even before you test rode it? For a 9 year old bike I believe it is critical to know the history of the final drive maintenance
It won’t match the Kawasaki Concours, Yamaha FJR or Honda ST1300 when it comes to reliability. Like their cars, they can’t match long term reliability like Toyota, Honda, and even Hyundai.

I love everything about this bike, except I can’t stand the looks unfortunately. I’ve got a K1300S Motorsport that I really love, just wish it had a slightly more touring bent (like the cruise control, adjustable screen).
At 16? Only in America. Here in the UK, I had a 50cc that was supposed to be restricted to 30mph but mine could do 45mph. It would do a maximum of 47mph down a hill before the rev limiter set in. Other peds were much quicker.
Not sure where to ask, but does anyone have the M1 Moto gloves? I'm thinking about getting a pair, but I'm curious about how they are as winter gloves.
It's interesting how a logic construct can swing when you throw hate into the batch. When Irish actor Charles Durning played the Poconos for comedy he'd say, "Jesus, it's so quiet in here you can hear the men zipping up their flies in the mens room."
INFO FOR MOTORCYCLE JUMPERS: No one should try this without the motorcycle being prepared exactly perfect. That is the key. The engine is built by someone really, really good. The piston has properly been lapped to the valve guides so that the rings do not stick to the cam chain. The clearance is very important in this step. If you get the gap in that lap too big slippage will occur between the pump and the ring gear which would throw everything off once you leave the ramp. If that gap is wrong there is no use worrying about the chassis. The chassis was prepared way in advance anyway so that the bike could perform a jump to remember. Every single component was bent and reshaped until the right cantelever was achieved in each part, especially where the shocks attach. And the fork is an entirely different matter where a specialist is required to dial the spokes into "true" tune between the hub and ratio of each gear. Don't worry about the brakes as long as they are not grabbing sloppy. As long as the brake cable extends all the way in it will stop. The drive train is crucial. Without the correct manufacturers recommended grease paste pressed into the embedded cross frame, that machine is not sailing anywhere in a head wind. If there is too much head win it is best to take off in first gear only, use the clutch to shift quickly though the gears after the take off once the hump is cleared. Do not look down while flying. Concentrate on the duty to control the throttle during the flight. Too much torque can veer you sideways and too crooked to land. If your take off is short you might not make it. The landing might cause pain. To avoid too much pain you must tumble on top of the air for as long as possible resisting the urge to catch yourself on top of the motorcycle. Remember that motorcycles are very cheap compared to the ambulance and hospital. Most surgeons hate motorcycle jumpers anyway so do not make mistakes that require their practice. Let those MD professionals practice on somebody else. This is the reason foremost to follow these preparation steps to the letter. If for any reason that you do not think the bike is balanced at the Apex of the perimeter of both axles than DO NOT MAKE THE JUMP! It may not end pretty. Beware and be careful and safe at all cost. In fact it is best just to forget it and watch someone else.
But the K1600 has 130lb feet of torque, I own a 2013, and when I take off the traction control, the front wheel comes up like it's a 400 lb sport bike and I can smoke the rear tire with ease, it's a beast and sounds waayy better than the 1300, it sounds very much like a Porsche 911, pure music.
Well, I got the 1200 version and... was disappointed in aerodynamics - huge wind blows on the track - even my previous DL650 seemed to be better in this aspect... I expected more wind-comfort. And the switches are rather for a rider with a gigantic (German ;-)) palms.
Crosswinds particularly dangerous. I had 1200 GTSE and crosswinds were terrifying. But , did everything else amazingly. And distance between refuelling was fantastic.
Power brakes were a bust for me. No braking feel and electronics waiting to fail although they didn't inthe 3 yrs I had them. BMW dumped them a couple years later.
Yeah yeah yeah, yeah real nice.. I still prefer my Blackbird, lighter and more simple. My seat heats up too, as soon as I sit on it. I got different riding modes too, they're in my brain. The shit never breaks.
LMAO, I had a 2003 BB for 7 years, and yea man, that thing was bulletproof and insanely fast, nothing ever broke, and it was as fast after 32,000 miles as it was the day I bought it with 0 miles on it, I have a K1600 GT now because the BB wasn't as comfortable the older I got😂😂
I have one of these bikes, what makes it so great is also what can bite you in the arse. All those electronic gadgets start failing around the 10 year mark and they are not cheap to replace or fix. Right now I have a faulty oil sensor that needs replacing and the front and rear tyre pressure sensors have flat batteries. So I have 2 alarms going off on my screen and I just ignore them. I will give the K1300GT this, it has insane power for a touring bike and is very comfortable. I have done 980km one day rides with zero issues when it comes to comfort. The bike is also very good through the turns as well, it is the type of bike that prefers to go fast through the turns and laughs at your slow pathetic attempts to corner.
BMW isn't that hard to beat. What i want a motorcycle where the electronics always are broken after a short while? When i read reviews from Magazines and experiences from private owners, i never ever would buy an BMW Motorcycle. Then i prefer an japanese bike. Here you not read that much problems.

Scott Tiner must be a sarcastic question or you are just completely uninformed about how reliable all motorcycles are these days. There’s a yamaha FZ1 with 300,000 miles and large amount of harleys with 200k.
Big Mans Wheels/Bavarian Money Waster? meh..... You're lucky the fuel line quick disconnect didn't break, the plastic fuel tank seal cracks, burst into flames, or any of the other many recalls this model has had. Nothing but trouble and snobby dealers. Should your machine catch fire, BMW offers "goodwill".

The gadgets just help you stay on that open road. I don't happen to have any on my 1300 Yamaha, but Neil Peart took a gadget-bike on a 20,000 mile ride. That's enough man, machine and road for me.
When you said "the poconos" im thinking Hawaii or Cancun, it sounds super sexy and exotic..... but nope! Just some mountains in Pennsylvania. Even better. Need to find out how far away this is from Pittsburgh.
$h!t? I have one and hate it. I love the engine, sounds awesome with an Akrapovic exhaust. Not sure if the seat is standard, but it is so uncomfortable. 50 miles and my hands cramped badly. It's going back on the market soon. My RT is the perfect fit 4me. Power means nothing. Comfort and handling is what it's about.
I had a 1200 with a custom Mayer seat. All the difference in comfort supported by having done a 927 mile day on it. The headlight sucked at night was about my only gripe. Wish I had it back.

Hi Sean Itchy boots is on her travel frim patagonia to Alaska....it would be awesome if she cant stop by to your place...👍😉
@matty d because itchy boots is hype
I got the R1200GS, I’ve tried this K1300GT, and I’m lost....really can’t make my mind which one I like the best 😀
At 16? Only in America.
Here in the UK, I had a 50cc that was supposed to be restricted to 30mph but mine could do 45mph. It would do a maximum of 47mph down a hill before the rev limiter set in. Other peds were much quicker.
Both??
Do you think K1200GT performance is better than R1200RT?Thanks
Way better.
@@rolandwright8243 Why used is less than RT?
Not sure where to ask, but does anyone have the M1 Moto gloves? I'm thinking about getting a pair, but I'm curious about how they are as winter gloves.
What kind of cell mount are you using on this bike? I have the same model and it's a hard to find one that fits --
PHANTASTIC !!!!!
;-))
It's interesting how a logic construct can swing when you throw hate into the batch. When Irish actor Charles Durning played the Poconos for comedy he'd say, "Jesus, it's so quiet in here you can hear the men zipping up their flies in the mens room."
Sean, I was in the Poconos this past weekend and I thought I saw some guy with a girls’ name blow your doors off with a FJ-09.
Nice bike, worth of consideration. RT is still the top contender. Great video, thanks. 🇨🇦🍻
Still high maint $$$.

What an amazing video
These are 4 cyl with 158 hp, and the 6 cyl 1600 has 160 hp. You only get 2 hp with the extra 2 cyl, and 300 more cc's
BMW gtl 1600...170hp
I think the k1600, is more about the extra torque, not hp.
@@jay-jf6297 I saw 1 on Google, thanks!
@@denniskarnes8680 Wow!, Thanks! I would love to hear the music!
And distance between refuelling was fantastic.
please do a review on the Bmw s1000rr
Ok the title sounds interesting🙌
Let’s see...
Cheers
The way you describe this bike you almost make me want it, but it's just not my style. Your vid was still interesting.
Thanks Easy rider
With 160hp this is an Autobahn bruiser. Need more acceleration and engine sound man.
Oh this is a great bike... when its not in the shop getting fixed...
Show the Handy holder please or a link where to buy?
You can turn the tyre pressure sensors off.
@@kpowers9017 not the warning indicator though.
Yes you can
Interesting. There are a few nice looking 10 year old ones on ebay at the moment. Makes me wonder why.
Intermediate? Based on what?
BMWs are great until you need to get them fixed, which can be often, and it will cost you a fortune. I will stick with Honda.
Well done for this one!! 😎
BMW equals Bring More Wallet.
Or yamaha
Well than you own nothing close to the rt
It got somuch stuff that can break;)
Bmw is knows to electronic errors. Abs to not starting at all…
Nice bike, when is out of service.
it's the best bike i ever had!
"Big Foot...I knew he was real" (LOL)
bmw: lets put cruise control and heated grips and seats on our 2005 models.
Kawasaki 2020 models: Am I a joke to you?
BMW isn't that hard to beat. What i want a motorcycle where the electronics always are broken after a short while?
When i read reviews from Magazines and experiences from private owners, i never ever would buy an BMW Motorcycle. Then i prefer an japanese bike. Here you not read that much problems.
What makes this bike sport anything? It's a straight touring bike.
If this is a sports touring, what bike is considered a touring bike?
honda st1100/goldwing. yamaha gts. bmw r_rt and lt. straight position, smooth engine, calm power. and BMW RRS and KS/KGT are sport tourers
AVS is a problem because it cost $4000.oo to replace it. I had my removed and it still stops with one finger. Love this bike... but not the AVS
What is the AVS? I'm very interested in this bike.
@@JCBigCat anti lock brakes.
@@JCBigCat I loved the Bike.. you can call me cheap if you want but when the BMW dealer says your estimate for AVS repair is $4,000.00 it's kind of shocking

Its a great bike untill the drive shaft gives up the ghost like many many BMW shafties have. Young rider have discovered it, but they cant afford to buy one.
i would love to hear a review of a kawasaki ninja h2 sx se. 2019 or 2020 doesnt really matter because the only difference is the color scheme. yes, its not a very "entry" level bike but its honestly very tameable for even for a rider with only a couple years of riding... well, its easier to deal with than a regular h2...
did 14000 km in 6 weeks San Fran to Miami n back temps 110 to 30, caught in snow freeway gallop NM what a bike Pilot rd 3's now in Au, kangaroos, cops, not worth it 3 mph over 60 300 fine 3 points off the licence
Hi love your show have you been to npa in philly pa I work there you would luv this placs
I had a K1200gt. Same bike really. My favorite bike ever. One suggestion..... try riding it on twisty roads where there is NO TRAFFIC and no cops. Then you can see what this bike has to offer.
Great bike as long as the yellow light stays off, but will it? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$plusplus
I have a k1200gt 39k miles now, I replaced the clutch , my fault , yellow light only comes on when the fuel gets LOW. I drive like its stolen and it will do an honest 160mph ....
How tall are you Sean?
What is the price of this bike in india .second owner ? BMWK1200gt
No idea
Poconos here.
Is this bike still available?
OK, simple statement, “It’s a Beemer”!
do you like bugs in your face, splatting on your visor? WE HAVE BIG, juicy bugs in Canada, so it is extra gross. I took a grouse in the face, hit my chest first, so, im a windshield guy now. Cruiser bikes look cooler without them though, I think.
Yes
I need a bike that can filter.
This is a queue up with the cars 🚗
Checked out your inventory Sean, few bikes remaining lol, good for you but looks sparse there,
But is it faster than a suzuki gsxr 600?
Other than the 1000RR I can’t deal with the look of a BMW - too bulky looking.
nice except the 27,000 dollar price tag
I hate my K1600gtl. It ruined all other bikes forever.
I love the bmw haters. Hahaha. When was the last time a Japanese bike or a Harley ran for 200k miles?
Put 195.000 on TWO DIFFERENT DUCATIS. GOT 78.000 ON MY MULTISTRADA NOW .
Scott Tiner must be a sarcastic question or you are just completely uninformed about how reliable all motorcycles are these days. There’s a yamaha FZ1 with 300,000 miles and large amount of harleys with 200k.
C J I’m sure there’s a few out there. Lol.
Look in the Kawasaki Concours 1400 forum, those engines are bullet proof & many have 100,00 plus miles on them with no issues
Lol laughs in a Goldwing
Big Mans Wheels/Bavarian Money Waster? meh.....
You're lucky the fuel line quick disconnect didn't break, the plastic fuel tank seal cracks, burst into flames, or any of the other many recalls this model has had.
Nothing but trouble and snobby dealers.
Should your machine catch fire, BMW offers "goodwill".
Så fin.
Sorry nice bike with Xtra gadgets .......BUT whatever happened to man and machine and open road ..........just saying
I've got a 1996 R 1100 RS & I love it because it only has ABS & heated grips & My Ducati is a 1993 Carb model with no gimmicks at all, My Triumph 1050 Sprint is pretty basic, & my ZZR 600 is Carb as well
The gadgets just help you stay on that open road.
Haha no just some stupid mountain in stupid PA lol

Sean: Talk about how giving into misleading "click coach" video titles squares-up with your Christianity. I'm wondering how you feel about using negative words like "hate" and "sucks" in video titles just to have better click through...?
Talk about judging, and having to invent things to judge someone for.
