Fun Fact: With the exception of The Dude (Jeff Bridges) helping Maude (Julianne Moore) bowl in a fantasy, The Dude is never actually seen bowling once.
The Real Dude Fact: A lot of the Dude's clothes in the movie were Jeff Bridges's own clothes, including his Jellies sandals, which he reportedly still owns and uses to this very day.
Big Paraquat Fact: In an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, John Goodman stated that The Dude (Jeff Bridges) referring to The Big Lebowski (David Hiddleston) as a "human paraquat" was one of the only improvised lines to make it into the final film. Virtually every other line was scripted.

Most of Jeff Bridges wardrobe was his personal clothing, including the jelly sandals and the pendleton sweater. Steve Buscemi had a lot of fun with his role, he has just a few lines and basically got paid for bowling, and hanging out with Jeff Bridges and John Goodman. This film has a massive cult following and even has it's own conventions. The largest convention is known as "Lebowski Fest West," and takes place in Los Angeles. People dress up as different characters and it's held at a bowling alley. Most of the cast has made appearances and a best dressed contest, takes place to judge the top cosplay of characters from the film.

I think it's pretty apparent which of you enjoyed the movie the most. lol Great reaction.
The Coens said they wanted to make a Raymond Chandler kind of detective mystery noir such like "The Big Sleep". But instead of a suave detective type trying to get to the bottom of a mystery, they replaced that character with a deadbeat burnout hippy who gets dragged into it...and wants nothing to do with it.
I've also heard people describe it as a story trying to form around a character, but he just doesn't care enough to let it, so the story just gives up.
I love this movie...easily top 3 of all time, and it just gets better with subsequent viewings. The comedy has its own unique tone, and is somehow both subtle and ridiculous. The characters are amazing...the best thing about the movie, easily.
    Anyway, great job. I'm subscribing.

@@firstcityviews Oh yeah, I can see that she did...just not to the same extent. There's something about Lebowski that seems to speak more to guys than the ladies. John Goodman said the thing that he loves most about this movie is that it's a buddy movie...in both that it's a movie about buddies, and it's a movie that buddies bond over. And I think that's kind of the key to why it resonates more with guys. Our "buddy" relationships with our friends is different from women and their sisterhood of friends. So, I think that absolutely women can really enjoy it, but it speaks to dudes...or duders...or el duderinos (if you're not into the whole brevity thing).

The Big Lebowski is a noir film in disguise. A decent man gets drawn into an underworld where everyone is trying to double-cross each other, and he's seduced by a femme fatale who uses him for her own purposes.

    Raising Arizona
    O Brother, Where Art Thou?

So, I’ve never watched Portlandia, but I hear good things.
Are you guys aware that Aimee Mann did the Magnolia soundtrack, and that she was originally the lead singer of Til’ Tuesday, in the 1980’s ?
Incidentally, after multiple watches of this film, there are to my knowledge, 3 famous musicians in The Big Lebowski.
Flea, Aimee Mann and Jimmie Dale Gilmore. (Smokey)

    Truly a great film!
Maude is Lady Justice. In the dream, she's even represented as a divine Valkyrie (with a bowling ball bra!). The trio - The Dude, Walter & Donnie - are her accessories - the scales, the sword & the blindfold, respectively. Donnie is confused the whole movie until he rolls a nine, then sees everything for what it is, so he dies, like the blindfold being removed. Yet the Dude stays even-keeled the entire time, seeking balance, and Walter is a blunt instrument seeking total moral clarity.
Many of the other plot elements fall into place, though remain hilarious. The big-dick drawing is still a hilarious absurdity.
