  • As part of their 'villains' trilogy celebrating the 40th anniversary of Doctor Who, Big Finish pitted the Sixth Doctor against Davros in a 'Dalek-lite' story, giving us a chance to experience Davros as a character independent of the Daleks. In the process, they gave us one of the most interesting Davros stories in the history of Doctor Who.

    Agree with the assessment here. Davros is a fascinating and brilliant audio story that lets Davros shine without the Daleks anywhere nearby. I'd love for them to do something similar in the TV series at some point because I think it's a case of the Daleks don't always need Davros and Davros doesn't always need the Daleks and this story proves it can work.

    I confess that when I was a kid, I was not too keen on Davros in the Classic Series, as I felt that he was overused after 'Genesis of the Daleks' and tended to undermine the Daleks. However, his 2003 debut in the world of Big Finish drastically altered my opinion, as it brought out more depth to his character and made him feel much more dangerous as a result. Just as the Daleks tend to be better off without their creator, so I think is Davros more interesting without having the Daleks to share the spotlight with, as it prompts him to come up with more interesting schemes as a result. 'Davros' is easily one of the best audios that Big Finish ever did, and it gave me a newfound appreciation for this classic villain. ❤

    Alright, alright, I’ll give it a listen. You might have convinced me to give Davros another shot.

    This audio drama is what introduced this particular American to Big Finish. I have to agree with the assessment you gave.

    There's so many brilliant and iconic scenes in this story. There's so many brilliant lines that if i noted every single one of my favourite lines while listening I'd probably end up writing down half the script by the end.

    In my opinion, Terry Molloy is to Davros what Anthony Ainley could've been to the Master if he'd been allowed to use his interpretation of them character more often. I'd have loved to se them share the spotlight. A story between Davros and the Master without interference from the Doctor or the Daleks.

    Yeah Dave Ross is quite the character I believe there is still a lot more we can learn about him.

    I have heard this before, and I agree this story does a great job of taking an in depth look into Davros' nature as a character, and can hold his own in a story that doesn't feature the daleks. :)
    Have you listened to Big Finish's six-part series "I, Davros"? I ask because it also does a wonderful job showing us Davros' origins, heck, it's the main focus! ^^

    So strange, I listened to this story for the first time just yesterday, only to find your video just now. Possibly my favorite Big Finish!

    There's something interesting when they manage to make a character a very complex, three-dimensional villain while also making it clear that they're evil to the bone. It's like hearing about Hitler's rise to power

    I hope that RTD shows how Davros has changed since the Witch's Familiar episode. Teaching young Davrov about mercy. Which in my mind could very well change Davros and the Daleks as a whole.

    Obviously for Davros this is before the events of Revelation, whilst for the Doctor it's after. So bearing that in mind...
    Where is he by the end of this story? Don't fret about spoilers, I just wanna know
    Curious if the "yeah I used an escape pod" line during his reunion with the Doctor in Revelation can apply to this story, even though it's obviously meant for Resurrection

    • @peterjoyfilms

      I always interpreted that this takes places before Revelation for both the Doctor and Davros, so yes the escape pod line in Revelation which originally referred to the end of Resurrection can refer to the end of this audio instead

    • @darkhumour741
      @darkhumour741 2 года назад +4

      @@peterjoyfilms So that line fits *circumstantially* with what happens to him at the end of this story? Like he's in a ship that blows up, similar to Resurrection?

    • @samueljordan3177
      @samueljordan3177 2 года назад

      @@peterjoyfilms yeah I agree with you there. I've always seen it as being before Revelation of the Daleks. I'm fairly sure other sources also confirm your thinking.
