    Andy Being it seemed you did have access to the back side I'm surprised you didn't completely fill the hole. Me personally I would have completely filled the hole. I do feel the repair will work but only half fixed. Maybe it's my OCD! Love watching the videos so keep them coming.

    I've always used a wood plug to fill the holle with epoxy encapsulstion. Then the fiberglass patch approach you used.

    Andy I think you only have 3 layers not 4 that’s why you could not find the 4 taper line ..... very nice detailed video 👍👍👍👍

      There actually was 4, but the last layer was an afterthought after the camera's were turned off lol

    Hi Andy,
    Grinding is always the worst. Where do you stop, where do you fill again? Final you should not see any mistakes.
    I'm looking forward to the big radii and surfaces from your new box.
    and anyway !!! I'm waiting for next Sunday !!!
    Greetings from Germany
    Tom

    Hey Andy, great video as usual! I always see you using Epoxy for repairs like this, could you have used polyester resin and the 1708? I have easier and cheaper access to polyester resin for when I do my repairs.

      ozzie 0314 1708 works fine with epoxy. It doesn’t have the styrene binder like CSM does.

    Do you recommend coating surface with neat epoxy before applying patch, or is there enough epoxy in the several layers to assure a good bond?

  • @raymondhamm7350
    @raymondhamm7350 5 лет назад

    During the close up shot of you pumping the epoxy into the cup, there was a lot of flex in the floor of the boat, is that a concern? Great show .

    Do you have a video where you show what you recommend to do a complete paint job. I have a 19' Boston whaler that I plan to redo. I have watched your videos for a while and can't tell if total boat is the best way to go or what you are leaning towards currently for the DIY project.
    I want to save money when I can. Is some of the prep and cleanup material just paint thinner?
    I am also interested in learning more about your sander.
    What area are you in? Do you have any interest in taking on a 19' Boston whaler sentry project. Commercial whaler becoming a fishing boat
    Thanks
    Thanks

    I'm sure it's just the camera distortion, but it looks like you Bertran has about a 12 foot beam?! Surely it's not 1/2 as wide as it is long?

    Fairing radiuses in my boat rebuild almost made me lose my mind :-). My OCD went through the roof and I just used my hands, like Master Andy said. Maibe it's not 100% straight, but is 110% good enough ;-)

  • @gomigman5936

    Looking forward to seeing the gelcoat application to all of this and since there is quite a bit of it, you'll probably end up spraying it but once you do that, please talk a bit about the gelcoat adhering to epoxy fillers and farings that seem to be misconceptions. I think in a previous video, you showed the strength of gelcoat adhesion to epoxy finishes and not necessarily polyester or vinylester only.

    Off subject question. I have a deck roughly 12x12. Without redoing the core, which is solid, what would be the best way to level it for a flexiteak installation?

  • @NYWaters
    @NYWaters 5 лет назад

    Curious. Why did you not seal off the Balsa core with fiberglass? If water/moisture gets in their it will start to rot. Right?

  • @raybates3119

    Andy, have you tried any of the Durablocks for the radius areas or tricky spots? I have used several of their different blocks for auto body work and they work well.

    Thanks Andy, great info as usual! With total fair, how accurate do you have to be with the 1:1 ratio? Seems like you always eyeball it, and not weigh it.

    I think Festool makes a guard for the 150 to prevent the side of sanding wheel from contacting neighboring surfaces, although the torque in RO is much less than in rotary making the rather large sander pretty easy to handle, even in close quarters.
