1 thing to keep in mind when buying a launch monitor. No matter if it costs $100 or $50,000, if you use it on the range, your info will not be accurate other than for swing speed or other club measurements like path, attack angle, etc. & the reason has nothing to do with your swing or the monitor. The issue is range balls, which, unless your swing speed is pro range, are worth nothing when it comes to spin rate, smash factor, & especially not distance measurements. A range ball will likely fly 10- 20 yards less than your normal ball so be certain you keep that in mind when measuring club distances. The balls aren't designed to be played but only to last as long as possible & they're like hitting rocks. They don't compress like the ball you play which is why your info will never be accurate. Many people are blaming the unit for inaccuracies while it may be working perfectly. I'm sure monitors are great for readings with a normal ball but don't count on them at the range. I don't use a monitor but was still underestimating my yardages because I didn't consider the type of ball. I was under the impression that I was hitting a 7 iron 125-130 when i was actually hitting it at least 140 while playing & couldn't imagine why. So obviously ALL my yardages were off. Not a good thing.
I have just purchased the R10. Not 100% set up, just did some basic testing and so far using balls with some aluminum tape im getting pretty accurate readings from the Garmin app. That said once i have everything setup where i want it, i will def be getting an Awesome golf subscription
@@GolfersAuthority True but i dont play Pro V's on a day to day basis. I taped up 3 of my Srixon balls and got non italicized spin reading with them. Maybe at some point i will splurge, but to start i think i will use the balls that i will play on a day to day basis
You video indicates you're comparing the data for the same shot on both applications. How are you able to have both AG and the Garmin app both analyzing the same golf shot? I haven't figured out how to get both running at the same time. I would love to be using AG and also have the Garmin app driving range going to use the Video feature.
Just turn on both apps at the same time. It will both read the same shot and then will calculate the data individually. Then you can switch between screens on your device to see
@@GolfersAuthority I tend to use it only at home under my carport. I like how easy it is to set up and use. i play off a 12 handicap. I cant find much difference between the two softwares but awesome golf is more engaging. It also good to get the kids involved. Thanks again for your video.
Can we use our iphone to run awesome golf? I don’t have an ipad and just got the garmin r10 and am considering getting awesome golf. Want to play some virtual courses or see my stats at the range. Thanks in advance for any input here!
That simulator range is basically the same as E6 isn't it? I have the Garmin R10 and usually use the Awesome Golf app for range sessions and E6 for the golf simulator with the five free courses. The range feature on E6 is pretty good too. Would be interesting to know how accurate E6 is versus Awesome Golf?
The thing that looks good with the Garmin app here is that it is pretty consistent. At least with this data set. It is almost always just a bit under the expensive, and hopefully very accurate, simulator. So perhaps an altitude change would bring it to great agreement with the expensive sim. Awesome golf is longer, shorter, longer, shorter, etc.
The Garmin App was close enough I would say each time. So you cold save money and not get Awesome Golf or RCT Golf Balls. Just know that the numbers are probably off by 5-10 yards on some shots. But who cares really. I know I dont. Which one are you using now with your R10?
@@GolfersAuthority R10 is due to arrive next Tuesday. I'm going to see how the Garmin App looks first. I know my yardages pretty well with each of my irons. I think my biggest issue right now is just me getting comfortable with swinging hard indoors. I have a pretty good sized space to swing but I'm definitely swinging nervously, which is resulting in some uncharacteristic bad strikes.
I've used both and Awesome golf gives way more information on the main screen. And to me is way more accurate. I normally drive the ball about 200+ yards. AG gets close to that while Garmin shows 160-170(?)
@@GolfersAuthority I had a watch of the vid. It's interesting to see the accuracy in the spin rate between the 2 apps on the Garmin. It does look like awesome golf would be the way to go
got an r10 about a month ago. in the garmin golf app, my drives are showing 160yards average. the simulator at my local 2nd swing golf store says i'm @ 180. so... definitely a discrepancy, but it's pretty consistent. went to try out awesome golf, and my drives were mostly showing in the 75yd range, with my longest being like 135. so incredibly short, and inconsistent. calibrating did not help, and the firmware is current. went back and forth between the two apps a couple times, and the results were similar each time. perhaps my situation is unique? i haven't uninstalled/reinstalled awesome golf yet. but i'll be pretty upset if i can't use that app as it seems to be a budget favorite.
Good review …suppose if spent fair bit on simulator rct balls aren’t so bad if it makes your r10 more accurate. For us non pros 2 or 3 yards doesn’t make too much difference. Like the Awesome golf app hope more updates will make it be even better .🇬🇧🍻
Very true! The RCT Balls are great. It just the $65.00 price point is lame. Awesome golf in my opinion is way better than Garmin app. I have a few more tests in the works.
@@GolfersAuthority Yes find myself using AG most of two. Hopeing now on bigger server will mean more features in future . Not seen the monthly challenge/competition reappear yet which was fun ….although didn’t have a chance to win it ever !!
How durable are the RCT balls? Although I don't lose balls hitting in a net like I might do out on the golf course I sure do chew through them and after one good range session they're pretty beaten up. At $65 a box that's pretty expensive if you're chewing through one ball per range session.
So far they are pretty good. I only have used the same 2 for the past few weeks and haven't notice any real damage on them. I had to order mine through Titleist and it was like $75.00 shipped or something. But do they do last ... so far. The numbers being more consistent is nice. What are you using now?
It looks like the simulator showed several shots going well right, however, the R10 traced those shots closer to straight…. Do you feel the r10 isn’t very accurate w/ face to path, swing path, direction, etc? or am I missing something?
It is very accurate when you set it up carefully. Make sure the device is 8 feet from the ball, Make sure the face of the R10 is parallel to the plane of the plane of the ball, and make sure it is directly in line to your intended shot path. Being off more than a few inches to either side will throw it off. But if you do all these things, it is very accurate.
I like and appreciate the video, but I don't believe you should focus so much on a comparative analysis of distance. It's really pointless. You have no confirmed data. Your simulator is lovely, but its numbers are calculated just like the R10 Garmin app or Awesome golf. I would focus more on the amazing club data that r10 offers. (face to path, path, etc.) Also, just remember that the R10 has been tested along side several state of the art Trackman devices, and when set up correctly, they were really close indoors and even closer outdoors.
I take the R10 to the range quite a bit. Hard to tell real accuracy beyond 200 yards but anything inside of 165 the R10 is beyond accurate. Like, you drop a shot down on the 100 yd board that you just laser’d at 98 yards away and the r10 reads 98yds.
