    To put it in perspective I own the Garmin G80 which is more of a golf GPS for playing golf and has 42,000 preloaded courses around the world. Fantastic. Just turn up, turn it on and play. But it also has a launch monitor that measures club head speed, ball speed, smash factor, carry distance, total distance etc. And you can play virtual golf on any of the 42,000 courses around the world. It's very unrealistic as it doesn't take into account ball direction, just distance. But prior to getting the Garmin R10 the G80 provided me and my buddies with a lot of entertainment and fun and much more stimulating range sessions than we had before just bashing balls. Now of course the G80 doesn't get used as a launch monitor anymore (still a superb GPS for playing golf) as the R10 is far superior and offers real virtual golf as well as enhanced shot measurements etc but it just shows how far we have come. I personally have Awesome Golf and love it for all the same reasons highlighted in your video David but even the Garmin Golf App, with all it's supposed limitations, offers a much enhanced golf experience to the G80 which I thought was pretty cool just a year ago. I think we are incredibly lucky to get access to such a great golf simulator/ launch monitor at this price point.
    Positive rant over! Lol 😁

    I've had my R10 for a couple months(thanks to your help) and I've used both trials with the original plan to stay with the garmin golf app mostly due to the low cost. But I completely agree with you on why you choose awesome golf. The interface is better, the data is tracked and displayed better and at a glance I know all the crucial details of my shots. The reason I got this was to self train and the coaching section alone is worth the price. Thanks for making a video that highlights all the reasons I keep opening up awesome golf 👍cheers!

    Awesome golf is an excellent app. Not least you have shown us subscribers here this. But many of us now use the Garmin app in combination with R10 analytic's PC app. There is a reason for this. Maybe you should also find out why. 😀

      @davidmaxfieldgolf  Год назад +3

      I’m sure the Garmin Pc Analytics is good but like I mentioned in the video I’m just never going to do that. To coach myself I like to see that information on the run in a session so that I can adjust and go again etc. I don’t want to have to finish a session then go back to a PC sand then analyse the data before coming back to the net. Want to do this on the fly in the app 😁

    Great video David. I just got the r10 last week and it was your videos that convinced. Also put the Spornia net on my radar so cheers for that. I just bought the lifetime upgrade and think the data is fantastic. I’m not a one for simulators as I don’t have the facilities at home and have to use my clubs outdoor range. But the one thing I would want above all the gimic games that I won’t use is session data on the range and coaching sections to be able to save and look and analyse when I get home.
      This is a big disappointment considering all the parameters you get and just to be told to screen shot to keep the data to view is very poor. I think to be able to save the data is just as important as all the data that goes with this app. 22:34

    Thanks for another great video David! I liked Awesome Golf, but I'm not paying their premium for lifetime access. What's worse is charging $200 USD for the privilege to pay a monthly subscription. In light of that, I have a couple questions. Are you modifying the Garmin Golf app parameters at all now to give you accurate numbers or leave it at default setup? Also, I'm hitting into a net with a fence behind it from about 8 feet away, should I put up a sheet or anything over the net to get more accurate numbers or should I be okay?

    • @davidmaxfieldgolf
      @davidmaxfieldgolf  Год назад +1

    Thank you for your videos. You primarily use the R10 in your home simulator. However, since I don't have a home simulator, I can only use it at the driving range. In my opinion, it is not very convenient to use the Awesome Golf app on a cell phone while at the driving range. On the other hand, the Garmin Golf app works well on a phone and is optimized for that.
    Overall, I prefer the Awesome Golf software, but it requires me to bring my iPad to the range. Additionally, it needs internet connection, so I have to connect my iPad to my iPhone's hotspot, making the process quite complicated.
    A significant advantage of the Garmin app is the ability to export and analyze range data using R10 Analytics. When I use Awesome Golf before a round, all the data is lost.

      I'm like you and mainly use it at the range but I had no problem at all using Awesome Golf on my phone. No different to using the Garmin Golf App in my experience. I switched from the android phone to iPad because being an older model the battery would be just about dead after one range session. I now use an iPad as android tablets don't work and also for the added benefit of free access to E6 which is well worth it . For internet access I just tether it to my android phone. Nothing particularly complicated about it and takes about an extra 30 seconds to a minute of setup time. 🤷‍♂️

    Dave, I get what you’re saying about Garmin making an open platform for others to develop apps for, instead of locking you in to their software only. Good on them. But I have a different view: I didn’t buy an R10 so that I can spend more money on extra software. Garmin should provide better software! And, as many people have reported (me included) the distances on Garmin software do read short. Every one of your shots on this video was 3-5 metres shorter than it was on Awesome Golf. So, I say to Garmin “lift your game, it needs to be better”. There is no criticism of you here; as a Garmin ambassador hats off to you for highlighting its deficiencies, and I hope you will continue to do so. But I also hope that you are lobbying them to improve it!

    As a Garmin Ambassador, please tell Garmin to fix their golf app! They should (1) add a coaching view, (2) reduce the sensitivity to the distance away from the ball and screen....the fact that Awesome Golf is somewhat more accurate in places is proof that it can be done, and (3) fix the switching from Horizontal to Vertical orientations on an ipad as it's flakey in their app. Those 3 changes and I'd be happy.
    Edit: Please also share with Awesome Golf team that for the price they're charging they need better/real courses. And that they should strike the same deal that the E6 guys did with Garmin. We get a 5 course pack with E6 for free; they should do an Awesome Golf coaching view for free with Garmin R10's. They could then upsell for say storing the data, courses, etc.

      It’s can be done. I terms of the simulator software the Garmin golf app is still very new. They’ll improve on it constantly

    Home tee hero would be 10x better if they fixed the POV on landscape mode. the zoom in is terrible, and i cast my ipad to a tv. Also on HTH there isnt really backspin, the ball doesnt one hop stop or even spin back on full wedge shots. I also feel like the garmin app will randomly slice my ball. That being said, ive been having tons of fun just using the free version of E6. I am mostly using this for winter since i cant play so 5 courses is fine. Havent tried awesome golf yet, dont know if i want to pay that price for just a winter practice and hit around.

      If virtual golf is your preference then e6 has the 18 hole courses but if you want to work on your game and get better then awesome golf is far better

      @@davidmaxfieldgolf mostly virtual golf at this point. something to entertain. I dont get too deep into the numbers and E6 seems to provide a good amount of what i need. carry, total, spin, deviation, launch angle. my garage where is set up has a low ceiling I can only hit irons. When that changes and i can hit my whole bag i may opt for more of the coaching side.

      @@jeffserbin8216 Do you find it to be pretty accurate in e6? I'm leaning between the R10 and using the free version of E6, or getting the new Rapsodo MLM2pro, but their software costs $200 a year and it doesn't come with e6.

    • @jeffserbin8216
      @jeffserbin8216 Год назад

      @@Jord_45 I love the R10 and the E6 software "feels" accurate. I know how far I hit the ball and when its going left or right or short and it matches my expectations about 98%. I have not yet compared it to a better launch monitor. My coach has a trackman and next time I go for a lesson I am going to bring it to compare the accuracy. If I were in the market right now I would honestly wait for a few more reviews on the new MLM2pro and comparisons. I would probably still lean towards the R10 though. But the one thing I would wish for that the MLM2pro has is the built in camera to watch your swing back. It can be a little clunky to get the video to work with R10.

    I use GS Pro and Garmin and NOT Awesome Golf. Solely on Protest at the pricing issues into the UK. Awesome Golf to DOWNLOAD is £349 in the UK the exact same software is $349 USD so should be £285 being the same software license. So UK is over charged of £65. GS Pro does not practice this. Garmin does not practice.
    Awesome Golf have not responded to this query, disappointing. Fix this Awesome Golf..

    David. Love your content. I have had the GarminR10 for 3 months and love it. Has really helped me with my game. Before I purchased it I downloaded both the Garmin app and the awesome golf app to see what they are all about and to help me make my decision. After purchasing the Garmin I have repeatedly tried to use the trial for Awesome Golf and it says my trail period is expired. I never hit one ball or used the app, I just downloaded it. I have written to customer service and have not received a response. I was wondering if you could point me in a proper direction because I’d love to try the app.
    Thank you.

    At the end of the day the Garmin software is just trash. Forget about the numbers, from a pure usability perspective it's some of the worst commercial software I've ever used. Any time you think "awh wouldn't it be cool if I could..... No. No you can't"
    I don't think it's the case that Awesome Golf is amazing. It's not worth the money for me. It's just sad that Garmin set the bar so low with their own software that 300 quid purchase is required to enjoy using a 500 quid product
    #rantover

    • @davidmaxfieldgolf
      @davidmaxfieldgolf  Год назад +2

      Hey mate, thanks for your comment. I don’t really agree though. I think Garmin understand the limitations of their product and because of that they have opened up their platform to a number of great software products like awesome golf, e6, TCG2019 etc so that the users have options as to which software they’d like to choose.
      And if the users are on a budget or don’t want the extra expense then you get e6 for free with 5 courses. That’s a pretty awesome deal for a $500 quid unit.
      E6 and awesome golf are not exclusive products to Garmin, so there is going to be a cost to their software. E6 is the main platform used in all true golf simulators around the world so to get a free version of that is pretty incredible

      All systems have their strengths and weaknesses. David has shown us here through many videos how you can benefit greatly from the Garmin R10 and thank you very much for that. Based on David and other you tube channels I can now harness the power of a bunch of very good tools developed for the Garmin R10. Garmin R10 app, R10 analytics for PC and best of all GSPro also a PC app.PS! I also have tested awasome golf, E6 and TGC2019 and they also have their advantages. At the end it's up to you to decide wath suts your need's. But to say that the Garmin app is trash without arguments is not something the viewer's here should take seriously.
