- Ushafa is located within the Buari region of Abuja, it is a small village surrounded by rocks on which most of the villagers build their houses. Although it is not the biggest village in the area, it is the most famous and most often visited village due to the highly impressive pottery making skills of the inhabitants. Notable visitors to have stopped by the village include one time President of the United States of America, Bill Clinton and one time British Prime Minister, Tony Blair.
The village is a local hub for potters, most of which are women and from the Gbagi ethnic ground is also houses to plenty of huts where potters pile their creations.
In Ushafa village the art of pottery making has been passed on for generations from mother to daughter and it is the only means of livelihood for a majority of the women there. Unfortunately, patronage has been on a steady decline over the years which has been resulting in a loss of livelihood for these women.
