  • The Theory of the Leisure Class by Thorstein Veblen is a classic work of economics and social theory that offered a satirical critique of the habits and behaviours of the wealthy upper class in the modern industrial society of the late 19th century. Published in 1899, Veblen's book analysed the emerging ‘leisure class’ and their patterns of conspicuous consumption and conspicuous leisure as a way to signal social status.
Polytechnica is a channel that delivers digestible philosophical bites that can be consumed anywhere at any time. The general tenor of the work is specifically designed to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. It is in this spirit of a toy theorem (a deliberately simplistic model with many details removed so that it can be used to explain a mechanism concisely) that we attempt to reveal an applied, quiet, uncluttered, and practical way of consuming challenging content. We are engineering thought.
