It's interesting that you can hear the instrumentation from the Donkey Kong country games peek through from time to time. Dave Wise apparently worked on both.
This game highlights for me something I didn't like about the SNES. A lot of side-scrolling beat-em-ups on the SNES had much tighter screens compared to the predessors on NES. Lots more detail, but also less time to react. What's worse is some of these games had arcade versions, which had wider perspectives, so if you played both you got to see how much better the wider screen angle was. But, they just *had* to show off the higher resolution and better detail of the SNES with these larger on-screen characters.
@@charliewilliams4587 lol I am talking about a prank from 4 chan and somethingawful, where they got people to call gamestop and other gamnestores to preorder battletoads 2, a game that didn´t exist. They desperately tried to find out where that game would come out since so many people calling must mean it does exist. It got so bad at some point that they hung up as soon as you mentioned battletoads 2 .
We were just talking about the Street Sharks, also Samurai Pizza Cats, and Toxic Avengers. I played all of the Wing Commanders a ton of times. I beat WC: Secret Missions with the best ending once when I was like 12 or 13. Took a very long time.
This is an incredible video to watch. I loved Battletoads and rented this Snes game maybe 3 times before I realized I kinda hated it. The arcade game though is beyond words awesome.
i think the giant animations on the finishers are just a comic book esque way to emphasize how hard the hits are. not actually pulling some ethereal anvil out of thin air.
Would love to see content like this in a crossover with Ryukahr, since he has a similar series 'Debunking the Difficulty', playing a co-op game like Battletoads. The co-op experience was always the 'true' Battletoads in my mind.
That particular game is "fair" by comparison to all the other battle toads games (excluding battle toad double dragon, they are about the same). Yeah, it still had ultra difficulty, but it feels like you can actually make solid progress with practice.
Battletoads is the "we have TNMT at home" lol For real though, the NES version was soooo good. I felt like the SNES version was a quick attempt to cash in on the IP.
I owned the game. It was definitely one of the hardest games after original Battletoads. I beat the game several times with Rash or Pimple. I too have never had a friend who could beat the rocket coaster with me. You have to master the turns, point down hold down… goes left hold left… etc…. Keeping speed up or get sliced in half !! Good luck with trying to beat it. Also, The soundtrack is awesome.
I actually still have the game physical and on emulator. It was hard enough getting my brother to get past the bike level together and at the time neither of us got past the snakes. I have successfully beat it though, but yeah. The rocket coaster is the level I'm currently stuck on again.
not to ackchyually, but it's kinda interesting... gold became valuable for several reasons. but in short, societies need a medium of exchange to trade goods, services, and labor efficiently. gold's unique physical and chemical properties made it almost perfectly suited for this role...like weirdly perfect for thousands of years
Probably that and that pure gold doesn't oxidize under normal condition and is viewed as an object that exist for eternity untarnished and doesn't rust same as how diamonds are viewed the less impurities the more it's value increase.
The only Battletoads or Double Dragon I ever played was SNES Battletoads & Double Dragons: The Ultimate Team. I remember somehow managing to beat it, but it was super hard, but at least it was nearly all just beat 'em up action.
I didn’t have this as a kid so a few years ago I bought a repro cart off eBay. It was fun until it would glitch and soft lock at the end of the first level. Get what ya pay for
6ft 126lbs is... Less underweight than you might think. Like it's definitely moderately underweight but not dangerously underweight yet; ideally they'd be around at least 140lbs. But it's around 6ft 110lbs is around the point where there needs to be an active intervention for the sake of the person's health. So, it's about halfway to dangerously underweight.
yeah a fren of mine, who happens to be half a jew and half a black african, owned battletoads back in teh 90s. It was like teh most hard videogame in human history for us!
the boot xd, i remember playing battletoads double dragon and on the second stage you could grab the stick, make the enemies go throguh the floor and then boot their head into the stratosphere. P.S. game is real unfair but im having fun. 🤣
As a woman who was once 6ft and 128 pounds, no, it's probably not too healthy but it can happen relatively easily depending on your genetics and lifestyle.
I find this one more tedious than hard. Practicing on a real cart meant playing through those boring bowling pin bonus stages over and over. This one is also too lacking in "meat and potatoes" gameplay. I mean, I think there's only 1 real walk-to-the-right-beat-em-up level in the whole game (stage 1).
@5:36, where did GrandPooBear get his name? I don't know but it is based off of the name in Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado (1885), the Grand Poo-bah. I, as a spectator, can only assume that GrandPooBear likes The Mikado.
Yeah, I think it's a play on words with that and Winnie the Pooh. Usernames like that aren't uncommon around the internet. I don't actually know if it is as simple as that, though.
Gold was used because rarity and shiny, but either like our modern day money it makes trading easier. It was just a trading tool. Makeup was something invented by women and for women 2 use, so they could attract more men.
To be honest playing video games it's not a job RUclips is your job making videos is your job playing video games is what you like to do and yes people get payed for making or testing video games but u dont do that 😮
It's interesting that you can hear the instrumentation from the Donkey Kong country games peek through from time to time. Dave Wise apparently worked on both.
Game genie helped me out with lives on this game
I never noticed this until now, but level 4 is timed to the music. It's basically a rhythm game before its time.
This game highlights for me something I didn't like about the SNES.

*Battletoad gets kidnapped*
Grand Poo Bear: "Why do one of the turtles always get captured?"
😂
We used to beat this in 2 player b mode.
It was crazy, you had to memorize everything.
Played the hell out of this in the 90s when I was a teen. Banger soundtrack!
Battletoads 2 is a lot harder, but it was hard to get. So many people wanted it that gamestores would hang up on you if you asked about it.
What r u talking about the battletoads double dragon 1

When u say battletoads 2 do u mean battletoads double dragon...
They're referring to the battle toads meme. Where people would call gamestop/that pawnshop on pawnstars and ask if they had battletoads in stock.

One controller co-op 😏
I still play the crap out of this, I have beaten it so many times but never had a player 2 good enough to even get past the turbo tunnel.
2 player is always 10x as hard as 1 player in battletoads.
That particular game is "fair" by comparison to all the other battle toads games (excluding battle toad double dragon, they are about the same).

@@tylerhorn3712 It was more cohesive, I wouldn't call it easier all the time I find the snake level harder and the Roller Coaster than Genesis and NES
In other words, Turbo Tunnel is the true test for your friendship?
@@oaklex4948 Yes! Instant friendship haha. However I will not turf ya if you cannot lol

This game has a level that won the hardest thing in gaming ever let that sink in

My cousins and I played the hell out of this back when it came out.
"The Dark Queen is 6' 126lbs"
So the Dark Queen is Arrow de Wilde?
Would love to see a 100% starfox64 play through both paths
You know it's over when you hop on a hoverbike
Really hope to see a part 2

The one game that beat you. Never thought it qould be Smes Battletoads.
Best game i ever played 😂🎉🎉🎉
Please play Earthworm Jim
There is a new Battle toads .i believe it is on multiple platforms including the switch
they did make a new side scrolling beatem up for battle toads.
and not the mobile one.
You should play earthworm Jim 2 that game is hard
the boot xd, i remember playing battletoads double dragon and on the second stage you could grab the stick, make the enemies go throguh the floor and then boot their head into the stratosphere.

poobear... u should play the arcade version... you'd love it...
Which controller are you using ?
I'm pretty sure there's a code for either more lives or more continuous
He doesn't cheat that the whole point of his videos

It seems Rare could never really grasp how to do a balanced beat-em-up, with it's over dependence on gimmicks and too many instant-death situations.
it's hard..... and it would be REALLY hard if you couldn't cheese the chase level with pause buffering
Whyyyy couldnt this game just be mostly lvl 1 and 2? 🙁 But great game tho for the first 2 levels lol
Would it be cheating if u used the 5 lives and 5 credits code?
I never played this game but I can't believe most of it is just a worse version of the NES version.

It is harder myltiplayer
games hard huh. LOL
