I made this hat pattern as well and I can agree it was fun and easy! Your hat is most “a-peeling”

I love how your reveals are so often reminiscent of a little kid in front of a mirror :)
I've done proof of concept and am ready to get sewing... any moment now... on my xmas craft idea to make everyone a fabric pouch with a fridg magnet with clip and a pair of safety glasses in it. Cause there's nothing worse than not being able to find your saety glasses (or sunglasses, or readers), except maybe finding them scratched all to crap from banging around unprotected in the purse, toolbox, glove compartment, whatever. And the protective cover can be clipped to your clothes/pocket/purse strap for safe keeping. I just need to make that first step and change the thread in the sewing machine...

I mean, that's pretty much me in a nutshell 🤣🤣
That's a great idea! Starting's the hardest part though, for sure.

yay for child-sized heads! between entry holes and tips, I'm amazed you didn't crack up laughing😂. love the sunglasses. glad you have a little time to relax nowadays. love the final result. the fuscia pink actually really suits your skin tone.
my plans for this month have drastically changed. I had planned on just chilling before the chaos of my brother's birthday, Christmas, my birthday, and new year happened. but my dad got a chest infection and died on the 28th November. so now my plans revolve around cremation arrangements, closing accounts, contacting the government, supporting my mum and trying to find every way possible of keeping her in her home, and then also dealing with all the previous stuff. I'm knackered, but can't sleep because of all the demons running around in my head. so thank you for this brief distraction😊, it's a nice bit of time out.

🤣 I mean, I may have edited all the giggling out! And thank you! It's definitely a better color for me than the pink of the dress. 😳
Aw, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad 😢 that's really tough, hang in there! Glad to brighten your day a little 🧡

Sorry for your loss, from a random internet stranger who also happens to be a 21-year member of the "now dadless" club that nobody ever wants to join...

The hat is adorable! Just love the little glasses on the banana - perfect touch. And though the pattern maker chose not to do the 17th century (naturally) it does have kind of a Jacobean vibe to it Victorian though it may be. 🥰🧡💙

Thank you! 😊 The glasses are definitely my favorite bit! And I totally agree with you! It does have that vibe, and I think I may try and modify it for that very purpose somewhere along the line 😁

Hey Jackie! I just saw you on a Dickens On the Strand Golden Anniversary (from the Galveston Historical Foundation) You Tube video in your banana costume! I spotted you right away with the banana hat of course! It's toward the very end.

I feel like if you told a story about thus style of hat being a thing that existed... the banana trade, marketing, fashion, and conspicuous wealth...I've heard enough similar things, it would seem plausible.

You know what the interesting thing is? At the event I was at, they have a ship called the Elyssa that was built in 1877 and is still a functioning vessel. You can tour it, which we did, and it used to carry bananas as cargo! Not only that, but apparently, they were considered bad luck, because ships carrying bananas would run aground and lots of people would die on those runs. Turns out poisonous snakes and spiders were coming along for the ride, procreating and decimating the crews! 🤯
You can be sure we took a bunch of photos of me next to the giant "no bananas on board" sign 🤣

    • @lynn858
      @lynn858 9 месяцев назад

My first thought was bad luck because of the specific routes they took. But having fewer and fewer physically capable and mentally stable crew members would certainly cause ships to run aground.
That's a fabulous mystery novel, or a Holmsian "no mystery there... the ships are going missing because of poisonous snakes in the tropical cargo" ... throw away.
      Wow!

A totally bananas engagement comment. Nothing to share. I mean I am either boring or mysterious.
