Shoutout to the grandmas and grandpas 💓 We love you, just not your design style... (even if it is nostalgic and cozy). #interiordesign #homedecor #thrifting #antique
Any chance you'd do a Modern Victorian style video? Quite a lot of folks, including myself, live in these old victorian houses and it's always been a fine line between modern cool and grandma's house. This clip is a good step in that direction.
Ooo yes yes, also I live in a sort of “Victorian style” house that was built in the 90s (the layout at least is definitely Victorian with a turret and everything) so I’d love to see a modern take on Victorian style that would work for the inside of it
🛠 Architecture can 💯% impact your design style. 🥰Truly adore Victorian & Craftman Style houses. ❤Love the masculine elements balanced⚖️ w/the ultra feminine. These structures can have such elegant & timeless detailing, but the last thing you want is a dated or fussy looking space😂. Or worse, caught in some time ⏰️ machine... 🤔Think it's important to give a nod to the past, but you wouldn't want your historic home to look like your great-great-great👵grandparents👴 either. Would be interested to hear his feedback on this tricky design topic.🍀Good luck! 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
I'm about to close on a farmhouse built in 1800, forclosure reno. I'd love a video on how to do a "primitive farmhouse" without it looking like grandma's or a museum! I've got the walking wheel (I'm a spinner), a dough box that will go in the kitchen, and a few dressers/hutches.
I am furnishing my house with only vintage and antiques. Fresh stain, and new apholstry helps alot with making it all cohesive. It just takes time. But you get to make it all of have similar hues. Plus you can add some new filigree, guarantees its one of a kind, and strikingly original. Plus its way cheaper, and fun to go adventures looking for the right furnishings.
My studio apartment is mostly thrifted items. My theme has been walnut, black, white, green & gold/brass. It has taken 6 months or so to curate all the furniture/decor but slow design is so nice to find the most practical and aesthetic layout for your space. The apartment was a stuffy white depressing curry smelling box but now it's a cosy green haven
You're the tops! Thank you so much for your videos and professional tips and guidance. I still have a few sentimental items around. Believe it or not. -- A white wooden rocking chair - I change up with a throw and different cushions and pillows. It's the rocking chair I used to rock my baby in for years. It's still in perfect condition and the 'baby' is over 30 yrs now. I also have 2 wicker chairs I decorate the same way. My aunts and mother often sat in them years ago (another era) when they took a break from playing bridge. They would have coffee or tea, relax, and discuss relatives or friends who were away from home and at war. My mother kept the chairs. I pretty much place them where ever and also cover with seasonal or holiday pattern on the fabric used for throws and pillows. They add a nice little touch, are plain and simple, and blend in anywhere. Sweet dreams.
🎉 Beautifully done🎉. 🙏More please. 📷 That photo of the ornate trunk tucked under that modern console was perfection✨️. Love a charming mix of old & new😊. 😉Agree "less is more" on principle〰️but I think there's a simple matter of curating your collections like a museum instead of putting them all OUT on display at once. 😉Will always admire creative clusters & clever vignettes. 🔄 Would just recommend you rotate them in & out to keep things feeling fresh. Give other 🗿objets d' art🏺 a chance in the spotlight. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
Loved the suggestion to reupholster in more modern fabrics. Our dining area is a bit antique-y, and doing up the chairs in a livelier fabric might make it a lot more interesting.
My home is styled like a 1800s English countryside women met a 1920s bookworm man, and decided to let the 2020s great grandchild help them establish electricity.
I live in a historic home and all of my furnishings and decor are vintage or antique. Anytime I bring something new in the house it sticks out like a sore thumb. I get what you mean about the antique store look, so yeah, less is more.
I love your decor tips! I've stolen some modern century chairs, kitchen appliances and a dining table from my mom while selling mine. My house looks amazing! Everyone's amazed by the huge difference to our home 😊
I picked up a gorgeous gondola sofa a few months ago that was reupholstered in the eighties..that looks very eighties. I'm having a hard time coming up with fabric that will reflect the era, yet doesn't feel like I pulled it out of an attic.
The dining room @ 00.42 is in Dakota Johnson's Hollywood home. That’s a new, custom, table but the light fixture is from 1st dibs. It's a gorgeous home and you can see it at Architectural Digest or on their RUclips channel.
The antique market has suffered indifference from the younger generations. You can pick up vintage and antique pieces at much more reasonable cost then 15 years ago. Only the very best high end pieces have much value anymore. Good news for us junktiquers!
True, but it does go in cycles. As the younger generation gets older and sees how shallow they are they will soon discover the beauty of the past where things are built to last and have such defining character.
Love these suggestions! Our house is transitional/English countryside/bohemian and we have a LOT of antique furniture scattered throughout :) I don't think it looks like a Grandma House - LOL
We inherited a beautiful home, with wall-to-wall antiques--all cherished, some family heirlooms back to the 1800s. Most of them are really amazing pieces; however, if I put price tags on everything, you'd think it was an antique store.😂
You hit the jackpot! I’d use them all! And please don’t paint them, I cringe when perfectly good antiques are painted. Keep the accessories to a minimum and let the antiques shine!

Don't forget some antique clocks!!
Thanks for the tips but I'm going for the grandparent vibe 😂
I appreciate your honesty and you go for it!

Would love a longer video on this topic!!
Excellent points! A friend does this - modern style, with antiques scattered here and there - honestly the best home I have ever seen!

You did it again! Now you ragged on Grandpa and Grandma!

Great advice. I enjoy (& 99.9% agree) every video & suggestion you make. Thank you!
Me and my absurd amount of vintage electronics/antiques in a pile in a corner hoping to find space one day
Put a vase with flower on top of the pile and call it an “artistic and eclectic” grouping.

That’s my favorite style!
gorgeous examples. I love this concept of mixing in beautiful heirloom prices in an updated context.
Very Select Curated Pieces is the rule for Antiques in Modern Spaces. Prime examples in lieu of whole collections. Keeps it Clean Fresh Modern
Hi! I always keep my wood furniture! Thanks!
i love doing this. it makes a home so warm inviting & interesting.
and reupholstering is pretty diy friendly
I want my home to look like and old English manor combined with French Braoque Rococo style

always learn a lot from your vid. Don't make it stop!

Gorgeous images!
but what if i want it to look like a victorian chaotic cosy
Great suggestions! I see too many antique lovers overdo it. Less is definitely more in this case.

Full video on this, por favor!
Good tips, though I hate antiques. Modern all the way for me!
Oh and I see you tucked in a companion to your mum's oven mitts at the end.
🙈🤣
