I have never been super conscious of when I was weighing my piggies as they are always eating, but for my piggies, I guess their morning veggies can really make a difference on the scale! Thanks for the helpful information as always.

Much of sudden weight gain and loss is directly tied to the error value of your scale. Not all scales are made equal. Most kitchen scales are + - 0.5 Oz or better meaning that they can be off 15g one way or another. I have seen many other scales be ounces off. I use my coffee scale to weigh my piggies and that scale is + - half a gram. Also if you are getting wildly different measue after tare check batteries and or charge. Also make sure the scale is on a hard level surface.
That is certainly possible but I think you completely missed the point of this video. Guinea pigs can gain and lose a significant amount of weight during the day because of their high metabolisms how much they eat and how much they poop. People message me freaking out over again or loss of 10 g and the point here is I have seen guinea pigs gain 50 g in less than an hour by eating a lot and I have seen them lose 50 g in a day. If you weigh them at inconsistent times you will get an inconsistent weight. If you weigh your guinea pigs on a stable flat surface with a container that is stable and you weigh them several times making sure to notice any imbalance you can get an accurate reading

That's so great! It is definitely fun and helpful to look back and see what your guinea pigs weighed and also to reference any notes you may have taken about illnesses and how you handle them. I think it is a very affordable and useful tool.$5! You can't beat that

My guinea pig felt like he would rather be dead than have me syringe feed him the three brands of critical care I tried. He fought his way out of the burrito blanket harder than any guinea pig I have every seen and he was soooooooooooooo Dirty but wouldn’t let me wipe his chin.

How much should a neutered male be? Before his neuter he was ab 150 grams heavier. Although he also lost weight from me having to syringe feed for three weeks post op because he did not want to eat. He was also put on a diet because my vet said he was a bit overweight, although the other vet said he was a good weight. My issue is now I have bonded him with two females babies and he is having access to much more food to steal.
Hey scotty! Thanks so much for this video it really helped me. I've been struggling with my piggy Twist, he has been back and fouth from the vets and is currently 800g and at his best 860. Do you have any tips to help them gain weight while on treatment?
What kind of treatment? Critical Care can add extra nutrients but you want to be careful not to get them full if they are not eating hay. Rolled oats and pea flakes can also be good as well as oat hay in general. If your guinea pig is on treatment you might ask your vet what they think. Just increasing overall food that is being offered will be good. I've never had a problem with guinea pigs not putting on weight unless there was some other underlying health issue.

The guinea pigs diet is pure vegan. Just veggies and fruit. No dairy or meat because they can't digest all that. Plus I don't think they'd eat meat
I think he is being silly, my guinea pigs do not eat very much fruit and they do eat a ton of hay
@@ScottysAnimals yeah I am being silly. I know Guinea pig cannot be on Keto, I know mines aren't. but they do encourage me to eat more veggies to the point that I might be vegetarian . And we sometimes share the same table my guinea girls and I. I honestly couldn't ask for a better life. it says I got 2 replies I can't wait the other reply 😥
Hey I've got a question someone here can hopefully answer. Do guinea pigs keep a "stock " of food in their mouths kinda like hamster's only not as significant? Like I've noticed if Im holding my piggies they'll keep chewing for a few minutes even if they don't have food
Yes they do. When my vet 'tries' to check 1 of my piggies molars? She has to clear food from the mouth of said piggy to see the molars clearly.
They do not have pouches like hamsters do. What food will often be stuck in their mouth or there will be residue of hay and pellets. If you are checking their teeth you may need to rinse their mouth out but they do not store food in their cheeks to be moved to other locations
@@ScottysAnimals I found out after talking to my rescue more that he was just unsure of the laptop . Hes had it rough these past months. His owner had to give him and his brother up when he went homeless and im guessing because of the very small cage they started fighting and my Casper ended up losing an eye ... Whatever it was he doesn't do it anymore. Thanks for the responses
