What do you think is THE single most important coaster to open in the last 5 years? This video is not ranked, but if you had to pick a winner, what would it be?
Hmm not sure if it realy was that significant. i haven't done it yet but it looks like a coaster i'm gonna enjoy a lot. But its just a combinataion of things already done before for a park that should be catering for this kind of audiance. Now having said that they did it exceptionaly well as far as i can judge it from clipps. But i'm an expereint enthousiast so you might be right for the GP.
@ it was the most expensive roller coaster in the world when it opened, and the first to feature a fast switch track technology! that last part alone is absolutely revolutionary (as you can see pantheon made the video) and so is the first part (as you can see guardians made the video)! and on top of that it also has a bunch of launches and special elements like you mentioned. it definitely would deserve its spot in the list had it opened in 2020 or later
@@matheuscastello6554 I forgot about that fast switch track. If that was a first then i was wrong and it should be on the list at least for the decade before. Being the most expensive one i don't think is that significant just means sombody build something with large pockets. As for pantheon for me that shouldn't be on this list so that another no good argument. Haven't done gardian yet so no opnion if that realy should be on it. To be honest i thought this was one of the worst clipps they have ever made.
Cosmic Rewind was the most mind blowing thing I've ever ridden. It really shows a ride experience I never thought possible, and makes me excited for the future.
Guardians is a whole other level of immersive experience. The pre-shows, on ride audio, controlled spinning and interactivity with the visuals is over the top amazing. I love how the music begins during the launch just before the momentum helps spin your car forward as the narration begins again.
Good list, Sarah and Taylor. I’m so glad VelociCoaster construction didn’t stop during Covid. It was also my 200th roller coaster. Wish I could’ve ridden it more, but it was too crowded that day. Hoping to experience some more coasters on this list.
I'm going to vote for the most under-the-radar important coaster of the 2020s also being one of the most important of the 1970s: the Kings Island Racer. Why? It was, as far as I can tell, the first deployment of Gravity Group's precut retrack, which is quietly in the process of saving the wooden roller coaster from vanishing.
For me i would say TRH and Kondaa are the most significant. They finally putted my country on the rollercoaster list. Before we only had mediocre rides at best.
I would argue Mandrill Mayhem because it lead the way for kid focused parks, such as Legoland Germany, to add Roller Coasters with inversions. This is what also probably made Intamin to create the Family LSM Coaster model that can too, feature inversions for kids to experience.
the 2020's really reignited my love for roller coasters, I was kinda getting tired of the RMC domination over the industry (even though they are always really good)! We're finally seeing variety in manufacturers and new innovations in the US again!
I’m so glad I live in Florida, this seemed to be a list of all the coasters in Florida that have opened recently, in just the past week i have been on velocicoaster, iron gwazi, and pipeline, and i’m heading to ride arie next weekend
Props to Orion for actually opening up in 2020, while everyone else delayed and paused for years, like Iron Gwazi. I was proud to be a first rider on Orion and had a blast with the short lines and low crowds that year.
I feel like Bolt the first roller coaster on the cruise ship. Should definitely have a place on this list! Revolutionary for the theme park and cruise industries.
Thanks to you two my son and I did ride F.L.Y. and Ride to Happiness. RTH is my nr1. Fly nr2. Mission Ferrari we rode before you guys. It is nr. 3. Formula Rossa is nr 4. The launch is a the rest extremely fast.
Can you guys do a list of the most iconic/significant coasters of all time. And a ranked list of the best theme parks in Europe is in order after finishing coastin' through Europe
The most insane thing about the innovations of the first five years of the 2020s is how it shows that a lot of the innovation of Intamin, Mack and Vekoma has been to now also manage the insanely cool tricks that RMC pioneered. I think RMC's impact on the industry cannot be overstated. I feel like they have basically pioneered the idea that rollercoaster elements needn't follow any particular formula, instead only the effective G-forces matter. This, combined with improvements in track production has lead to some of the most insane-looking (but often surprisingly non-insane to ride) elements lately. It also, in my opinion, shows that B&M has some catching up to do. They had a winning formula, with very smooth implementations of cool rollercoasters, but a lot of their elements now feel a bit more cookie cutter, and their unique selling point of smoothness is no longer as present, with RMC, Intamin, Vekoma and Mack also being perfectly capable of doing that now.
Not something many people would think of but I've got two significant coasters, Iron Menace for seemingly being the start of the decline of B&M who have probably been the most stable manufacturer of the last 30 years. The other coaster(s) would be the Kid Flash clones that are most likely going to be the final nail in Skyline's coffin
Well taron actually was the first modern multilaunch coaster that used the lsm as we know them nowadays, as well as the train design that all the multilaunch coasters and mega coasters use.
At least from a Scandinavian perspective I have got to say Fønix at Fårup Sommerland. Even if its not the most special new Vekoma looper out there, it not only broke the tallest coaster record in Denmark by a landslide, but it also finally put Danish theme parks on the map for a ton of enthusiasts, including you 2, who finally got to discover what until then had been hidden gems in regards to parks. Plus in that sense it has also served as a ton of enthusiasts introduction to the new Vekoma thrill coasters as a whole! So it has been a massive statement and showpiece for both Vekoma, and all the theme parks of Denmark. Though beyond that, Monster at Gröna Lund and Storm the Dragon Legend at Tusenfryd probably also deserve honorable mentions. Monster for its incredible engineering fitting a whole B&M Invert into such a tight space in an already widely built up compact park. And Storm for being the first Gerstlauer Invert and showing how Gerstlauer too is also pushing into new directions with their products.
Another significant coaster has just soft opened on the Gold Coast, Australia. Jungle Rush at Dreamworld has the worlds first inclined turntable, is Vekomas first multi-directional family coaster and the insane theming, detail and storytelling has set a new standard of the industry in the country.
I would also add Bobcat on the list from Six Flags Great Escape. First Gravity Group to use 100% vertical stacked track for an ultra smooth experience along with low maintenance cost. Also first Gravity Group coaster in the Six Flags chain, possibly leading to a great relationship. (Similar to Six Flags working with B&M again for Dr. Diabolical.)
As a UK enthusiast I'd have to say 2024 has been the best year for coasters, at least over here! Hyperia, Nemesis Reborn, Gold Rush, Minifigure Speedway... it's been pretty good! 2023 is in second place for me though, Mandrill Mayhem isn't the best but I like it personally, and while it isn't a coaster, Curse at Alton Manor is one of my favourite dark rides ever!
I would say Emperor was more significant than Dr Diabolical's. It doesn't have the beyond vertical drop, but more significantly it started the mini-dive coaster craze. Emperor only opened a few months before but was announced two years before and started the trend. While I'm not a fan of them, there's already been three more after it.
Top Thrill 2 is what came to mind immediately, which is what is funny given it barely opened thus far. If they can manage to get it open, it is a statement of the prime coaster propulsion method probably from here on out, even over chain lifts as LSMs get better and more efficient
Not sure if its really that significant but that is the best point i've heard sofar. But since i haven't done it going there next year i'm going to fully agree with you for now.
@@kmccurdy21 the smiler is a standout for alot of people but for me when I rode it all it does is go upside down in boring elements which don't do anything for me and that's basically it I would say it is good for marketing but it's not actually that much of a standout
Unchartered is really fun (the end part is great but no spoilers) The first launch does sort of hurt your back but not massively We went in knowing nothing about it and really enjoyed it
Personally, I find it unfortunate how TT2 is being managed. Beyond the fact that there’s more to the world than just B&M and Intamin coasters-and that smaller, less experienced companies deserve a fair chance to prove themselves-Intamin itself has encountered difficulties with the rides in question. It’s not as if every Intamin or B&M installation is automatically top-notch. I’d be pleased if Zamperla could rescue the situation, as the ride looks truly impressive. And for anyone who feels the need to point out that the original layout was designed by Intamin, I’m aware of that. Even so, it still takes a lot of courage to rebuild and renovate such a massive structure.
I went to universal and BGT over spring break last year. Velocicoaster was my #1 for a total of 23 hours. The. I rode Gwazi. They were not kidding about instant number 1s with these two
Riding iron gwazi and pipeline for the first time next week! Then hopefully a few more on your list next year (out of country?). Can't wait to see what opens in the next 5 years!
Most significant year would be 2022 with Daddy Pig's coaster. Other notable mentions for 2022 include Iron Gwazi, Pantheon, Guardians, Ice Breaker, Emperor, Defiance, Dr D, Tumbili (lol) and Wonder Woman at SFMM.
I think now with the closure of Nighthawk, Carowinds has the perfect opportunity to get a next gen Vekoma flyer, even though to the average guest, it would be a similar experience, and theme it to the Wright brothers.
The interesting thing about F.L.Y, though, is that it *hasn't* been more influential. Nobody else has bought one of these. Even the original Flying Dutchman models were more popular. I wonder why that is. Is it just too expensive? I have the same question about Pipeline, the Surf Coaster. I'd have expected a bunch more of these to appear or at least be announced, but they haven't, at least not yet. Maybe parks are generally wary of non-sit-down rides in this era, though these seem like less extreme, slightly more family-friendly rides than the flying and standup coasters that existed in the past.
To be honest the US is a littlebit late in that vekeoma has become a world class manufaterare. Most of there really good work is in secundairy parks and they haven't got a chance to really build a big one.Now FLY isn't that great as a coaster but they did solve the transition problem. So i expect it will get copied.
So where is The Bobcat on this list? Wasn't that the first coaster built using all Precut and the first Gravity Group to be built at a Six Flags Park? Oh well good video.
Bobcat is a great one! We had to make some tough calls with selecting rides so unfortunately not all of them could make the cut, but Bobcat is an excellent choice that likely would've been a runner up!
These comments are how I found out the Nighthawk is closing, as of a blog post that was posted today, Dec 18, 2024! Glad I got to ride it since it’s rare but uhhhh lol can’t say I’m sad about it! Rest in pieces!
I reeeeally wish we could get more Vekoma flying coasters. Did Phantasialand get a special contract for x amount of years where no other park can get one?
I'd say 2024 has been the best year for me being from the UK, I've only been an enthusiast for 2 years so I can't really say for the other years, only 2023 and 2024 I can say for.
If Great Adventure is getting a racing quasi-Mobius Mack XSC to replace KingdaGreenKaLantern, then it better break Guardians' record for the longest spinning coaster. Then again, this is Six Flags (as run by Cedar Fair)
Honestly I was watching this video and I live in the UK and I was just like hyperia has to be on this list as it's definitely the best in the country ❤
20:56 Im not sure if it's possible due to the clearance, but i can see alton Towers Turing the smiler into a Mack stryker. Having the same layout but at the half way section turn into a turntable and have it launch into the beyond vertical launch and then into the corkscrew. Then upgrade the theming add a pre-show. In my eyes that would be if not almost a simular scale to voltron
How is it that Canada just can't seem to figure out how to build their coasters right? No, MV and Triotech don't count since they build/install for other companies (GG and ART respectively)
I would pick Guardians of the Galaxy as the best Coaster ever! Nothing else like it in the world. I can’t believe it’s built by Verkoma. They use to make the worst head bangers lol 😂
Interesting you put gwazi on it and not Zadra because that was rmc's first ground up coaster. gwazi is great but just a small evolution over zadra and the other rmc's in my opinion
Spoilers for Uncharted The queue for Uncharted was like really well themed, then you go onto the coaster. Like one dark ride section at the start, some screens and ONE singular piece of theming. Like what, you put so much theming in the queue and then just do nothing!? I thought you were one of the biggest Parks in Europe PortAventura?
How are people still complaining about the lack of theming at Pantheon but you never hear the same complaints about Iron Gwazi, which is virtually the same in terms of the theming level? Come on, think for yourselves and maybe not jump on the bandwagon. It was always an overstated and unfair criticism.
What do you think is THE single most important coaster to open in the last 5 years? This video is not ranked, but if you had to pick a winner, what would it be?
Has to be Iron Gwazi, it just shows what RMC can do with a good budget. Ride to happiness too

The vekoma guy won’t be throwing you in the trash after this video
20:56 Im not sure if it's possible due to the clearance, but i can see alton Towers Turing the smiler into a Mack stryker. Having the same layout but at the half way section turn into a turntable and have it launch into the beyond vertical launch and then into the corkscrew. Then upgrade the theming add a pre-show. In my eyes that would be if not almost a simular scale to voltron

RMC has left the chat
not important in general maybe but candymonium did a LOT for hersheypark!
United P&E has a lot of coasters on this list.
how i would describe the mack stryker: bigger (trains) big dipper :)
No Batman Gotham City Escape? Is a craaaazy ride
They already have VelociCoaster on the list, which is the same model.
Whats going on with portaventura? ):
How is it that Canada just can't seem to figure out how to build their coasters right? No, MV and Triotech don't count since they build/install for other companies (GG and ART respectively)
How did TT2 fail when ThunderVolt prevailed?
I would pick Guardians of the Galaxy as the best Coaster ever! Nothing else like it in the world. I can’t believe it’s built by Verkoma. They use to make the worst head bangers lol 😂
can you do a top 25 of this year but use different ways to sensor all the asia coaster spots so we have to guess
5:30 massive?
Massive impact
why exactly is there no footage of FLY changing positions?
they have really tight restrictions regarding filming, and that section is all indoors, so there’s no footage
Bobcat at six flags great escape
Interesting you put gwazi on it and not Zadra because that was rmc's first ground up coaster. gwazi is great but just a small evolution over zadra and the other rmc's in my opinion
zadra opened in 2019, but if it was opened in the 2020's it probably would be on here
@ ah true. I forgot about that
Spoilers for Uncharted
The queue for Uncharted was like really well themed, then you go onto the coaster. Like one dark ride section at the start, some screens and ONE singular piece of theming. Like what, you put so much theming in the queue and then just do nothing!? I thought you were one of the biggest Parks in Europe PortAventura?
Nighthawk was just announced to be retired
Unfortunately phantasialand stopped taking down F.L.Y pov's so you can find one on RUclips...
Im for B&M 😅
Six flags not willing to work with intamin looks just silly at this point.
Steel Vengeance or Iron Gwazi?
How are people still complaining about the lack of theming at Pantheon but you never hear the same complaints about Iron Gwazi, which is virtually the same in terms of the theming level? Come on, think for yourselves and maybe not jump on the bandwagon. It was always an overstated and unfair criticism.
its simple: Iron Gwazi looks great. presentation is super nice. Pantheons is not. Theming or not, it visually looks bad.
Airtime thrills ahh video💀
i love hyperia
RIP NIGHTHAWK
