Even though his format was different then, I assume the main reason is probably because this one has the propeller style wheel that stands out so much while the other one he reviewed was a later model that had the ''less desirable'' airbag steering wheel, and I wouldn't mind seeing another review in laviolette coupe and LM85 versions all over again.

Their motto, "For the tenacious no road is impassable" stems from the 1920s, (1914 to be exact) when endurance racing was something quite different from what it is in modern times. With that context, it makes a lot more sense. The original Spyker company build the Spyker 60 HP race car in 1904. It had many firsts: The first ever 6-cylinder, the first front-engine 4WD lay-out and the first with 4-wheel brakes. They also competed in the Paris to Peking endurance races. That's 9300 miles, or nearly 15000 km.

Spyker are the kind of small, artisanal manufacturer who are prepared to think outside the box. The design blueprints for the Neo drew their inspiration from the aerodynamics of a diving falcon, the composure of a ballet dancer, the curve of a suggestively raised eyebrow, and the assertiveness of a cluster bomb. This is the kind of pedigree you need.

The Spyker C8, what a car! As you may know I'm from Holland where the Spyker cars were produced. Spyker's heritage lies in a company that started out as a producer of cars (fist under licence of Mercedes Benz, producing there own cars from 1900) and merged with a Dutch company that produced planes. The first cars they produced in the late 1800's up until 1925 when they went bust were very invinitive with four wheel drive and the very first car with a 6 cylinder engine. To many prestiges races and low sales due to high prices made the company go bust several times. Car production stopped in WW1 because the army needed planes.
The New Spyker company started in 1999 and produced there first car in 2000. The C8 was the model that started the brand to set off and got good ratings and was even reviewd by Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear. History took the company back to it's roots an the same mistakes were made. In 2006 the company bought a Formule 1 team and for there second year in F1 they bought Ferrari engines but forgot to buy the much needed software to make the engines run. The company also started building racing cars for the FIA GT endurance races, running the 4.2 V8 engines produced by VW and Audi. They would run under the name of Spyker Squadron and weren't very succesfull.
They made countless mistakes in F1 and even the Scuderia Ferrari couldn't look away and helped them out by giving them a much needed base software tune for the engines Ferrari provided for the F1 cars of Spyker F1.
More mistakes were made due to the same problems they stumbled on back in the first Spyker company, cars were to high priced and sales were very low, so there was little money to pay the F1 team and a pair of experienced drivers. Only a year later in 2007 the F1 team was sold with a loss of 30 million dollar on the purchase price alone!!
The boss of Spyker, Victor Muller quickly found a new money pit and tried to buy Saab of of GM. This also went horribly wrong and by the time he found the money, GM pulled the plug saying that Victor had tried to by Saab With money from a Russian Billionaire who had a strong bond with China.
Spyker was lost, an F1 team was lost and Saab was lost due to huge mistakes made over a very short period of time, just 12 years. A sad story but luckely they made some amazing cars in the beginning, the C8 and the C12 (which was never produced but one prototype was build which was supposed to use the W12 engine from VW) aswell as the Spyker D12 Peking to Paris, an SUV not competing with BMW or Porsche but with Bentley and Rolls Royce. The D12 was to become the ultimate of the ultimate luxury SUV with a Bentley derived Biturbo W12 engine. But even before it took of into production the money was drained and non were made.
I hope the cars that are made will live a long life and maybe someday I can get my hands on one.

I remembered when Doug reviewed it 5 years back and I thought he did a good review back then too.
The car got all kinds of weird cool quirks you won't ever find on any car which makes it stands out as a show car
but it handles like a performance car.
This car reminds me of a Pagani with jewels dripping from the outside in.

I'll admit I'm Dutch but man, Spyker did such a great job on this car. I remember seeing one every now and then and not being particularly impressed (just an Audi engine I thought at the time), but the focus on design has put it through the test of time with flying colours. Especially for a low volume automaker! This car has touch areas and shapes that make its experience almost unrivalled by cars from the same period.
It's a real shame it didn't work out for the brand. I recall they had quite a promising SUV design on display circa 2008 (forward thinking!). And of course Spyker almost got to own Saab. Thanks for the review!

@@pinut187 nee, dat ben ik niet. I wouldn’t call a half year of both companies hemorrhaging money and barely producing vehicles on uncovered loans a successful ownership per se… They tried.

Correct, it was just an Audi engine from the A8 D3. BFM code. Nothing is R8 on this car.

boring font??? I think the gauge cluster font is elegant and fitting to such a beautiful car. the whole gauge set up is understated and most importantly with a work of art like this, timeless

Just typical Doug, he occasionally say "boring" about fonts, buttons or whatever when he reviews a car, but when he reviews other cars, he prefer buttons.

This car appeared in the 2007 film War, driven by Jet Li. It appeared in the movie for maybe 10 mins tops but that was enough... the movie did a perfect hero-car matchup... the whole time while watching you were almost certain that it had hidden gadgets and hidden tech even though they are never used... obviously because Jet Li is enough deadly on his own.
