Eliminating the EV tax credits benefits Aptera, but the company still struggles to raise production capital. If its luck improves, we don't yet know how much Aptera will charge for the vehicle or how much EPA range it'll get from its 44 kwh battery. I have a reservation, and if the 400 mile range pans out and the price remains below $40k, I still want to own one if the early deliveries in California are successful. I live in Georgia, so I'll wait at least a year after initial deliveries to fly to CA and drive an Aptera across the country. I don't much expect it to happen in 2026, but hope springs eternal ... If I'm still waiting for my second EV when my wife decides to trade her 2015 Honda CRV, I may not own an Aptera in this decade.

The only way forward for them is to secure sizable loans and move forward until enough Apterae are on the roads that they can get real investment and interest in owning Aptera. We will see how “all in” the management team is. Is it personal enough to fail a second time. I’m kind of pissed. Elon hasn’t stepped in and just made Aptera the Robo taxi. Maybe Sandy Monroe can suggest that to Elon. Imagine Aptera w/ HW 4 and FSD.
with right to repair, you could DIY it into an EVTOL w/ solid state batteries from Chery.

The tariffs are all just a guess at this point. I doubt they will be applied equally to "everything". The lobby industry is already going nuts influencing THEIR products to not have tariffs. All countries are lobbying to not have THEIR products subject to tariffs or, conversely, initiating countervailing tariffs on American products. Every congressman and senator has local constituents lobbying for specific exemptions. The amount of money that will be paid to lobbyists and politicians is immense. Consumers will pay for it all.

  • @ryanl6316

Import tariffs should be contingent on an actual comparable domestic supply chain - in price and quality. Otherwise, prices will go up nationwide for *many* different types of goods, as a ripple effect.

Drew, I think that lower gasoline prices have hurt the EV market overall. The subsidies of the oil and gas industry are disjunct at best. The EPA makes it next to impossible to build new refineries, but tax advantages are given for exploration. Laissez-faire is left behind by lobbyist and regulations that make little sense. The free market is definitely not free. Frankly the government has misdirected and thwarted capitalism, and makes little sense.
Tariffs will only make it more complicated, so the lawyers will be there for the litigation and make things even more expensive.
Aptera is going to be the best by far and away, making it through this period is not easy, however, Steve Fambro and Chris Anthony are on a mission, and will make this happen, somehow, despite all the impediments in front of them

I think all the subsidy served to do was let manufacturers increase their MSRP's by 7500. Genuinely. I think part of the reason new vehicles are so prohibitively expensive is specifically because the governemnt has meddled in the process with subsidies like this. I think in a truly free market the burden should be on the manufacturer to create an affordable product, and if they cant, they fail.

Kudos on the topic. I'm sure it crossed everybody's mind.
I used to be a banker for 13 years. I'm just finishing up my 11th year in solar.
Trump is going to rock the stock market with his radical economic plans, as well as some of his other non-economic policies creating additional, negative economic consequences.
All of this financial destruction will tighten credit markets. Potential investors will hold on to cash. Cash will be king. Cash already is king right now as we're approaching a market crash that will be worse than the second market crash we had with G.W. Bush.
As such, Aptera - like all startups in nearly all industries - will starve to death. It will gain little or no more substantial fundraising money, unless perhaps it IPOs, which is a crapshoot. It'll very likely be bought by a vulture investor holding cash.
I suspect the co-CEOs would still hold on to most of the intellectual property, though, right? Anybody know for sure?

I was a mortgage banker. I anticipate that interest rates will be going to go way up because of more reckless tax cuts.
The kind of budget cuts being proposed are just impossible. If you take that much money out of the economy, you'll send us into a Great Depression for our time. Credit markets will tighten.
I had a rich lawyer for a repeat customer in Chicago in 2007. He lived at the top of an eight-story luxury condo tower, he and his wife owning the top floor, with their own elevator landing. They had signed Picasso prints and signed Warhol prints on the walls. He had an absolutely-perfect credit score - one of the few cases I had ever seen.
Listen to people say they have perfect credit, but then you run their credit and you see they don't. He had 850, 825 and 825 - perfect. The loan-to-value is only 70%. He was only refinancing, he was not taking cash out. It took me 14 months to get his loan done.
I predicted the bubble bursting in 2000. I predicted the mortgage and banking crisis under Bush 2 years before it happened, on schedule. I predicted the COVID market crash to the day. I've nailed a lot of predictions like these, and my friends and family recognize it. I've been wrong on one predicted stock market crash that didn't happen. But I've been mostly right on economic predictions over the last 30 years.
So trust me when I say, the kind of policies Trump is planning to implement are economic suicide. I swear, the guy is an agent for Russia. I was the top investigative journalism reporter at University of Florida over a 15-year period of the professor teaching that course. That's out of maybe 10,000 to 15,000 students. Unable to sniff stuff out. This is going to be really bad. You just can't take that much money out of circulation without causing a depression, period.
