I was on topical minoxidil for 2yrs and in that time i switched from a cheap brand to a brand name. The difference in price was 5-10$ AUD and NO MORE greasy hair. Then after being on brand-name for 1year and consistently shedding more hair from my peaks that I was comfortable with I finally moved to 2.5mg oral. It is true that I suffered from mild headaches for the first 5ish days but from the very first tablet I was not shedding anymore.

Currently, I am using 10% topical min+fin(Mintop) for hair loss. If I switch to oral minoxidil, will I still need to continue using the topical min+fin to benefit from the effects of topical finasteride on hair loss? I am hesitant to use oral finasteride, so I am wondering if I need to stick with the topical minoxidil and finasteride to get the benefits of finasteride through topical application along with oral minox.
I appreciate your help and support, thankyou doc

I am in 5th week now. It is shedding like hell. I am having 0 side effects. I am confused whether it because of stopping topical minoxidil or because of starting oral minoxidil. Please give your opinion sir. Is it worth continuing oral minoxidil? It is shedding like my head will be bald in next 3 months if it sheds like this.

Now I'm using oral minoxidil(2.5 mg) and seeing hair shedding
whether all the previous hairs will grow back or not(I've rectified the dandruff and vitamin D cause) or I will just see thickening of my existing hair?

I didn't see any improvements with topical minoxidil, so I started oral at 5mg. After about 20months of 5mg (and 1mg of finasteride) I noticed some improvement, but honestly I'm not overly thrilled with the results. I just started 7.5mg. I got 1 month's supply and the dr said we will consult again after a month. The dr said she never prescribes more than 7.5mg, so this is sort of it for me I guess. Hopefully it works!

Then i started on oral biotin with oral finastride and oral minoxidil (Thailand polipharm). My hair started to shedd again so i stopped using biotin and finastride and use only polipharm 5mg (oral minoxidil )(2) tablets=10mg per day. There seems to be an agreement among almost all doctors that generic drugs are equally effective as long as they have the same active ingredient. I think they're wrong and that you might be on to something about being consistent with drug brands. The problem is that even if you go to the same pharmacy for years, they often switch brands without telling you. I got into an argument with a pharmacy technician who told me to use the generic version and see whether it works. The problem is that you don't have the luxury of time with hair loss drugs. It's easy for most people to stop hair loss or at least slow it down if they get on medications right away. It's not realistic to expect significant regrowth from drugs. That's the point where you would need a transplant, but you wouldn't need a transplant if you used effective drugs in the first place. Doctors and pharmacists need to be more educated on this topic. They give people random generic drugs all the time and think they will be just as effective as brand drugs.

Sage advice as always Dr Bhatti. I see Dr Bevan Bhoyrul at Sinclair Dermatology here in Melbourne and I found that once I switched to oral minoxidil my hair (including my beard) become much more thicker in texture. Oral minoxidil seems to have gained some traction of late but it's use has been around for some time now in MPB. Minoxidil does not create new hairs as we know. But it can certainly can make a difference as in my case to the hair that we have in our donor as well as our transplanted hair. Stick with Dr Bhatti and that of your dermatologist's advice. There is a lot of misconstrued information on the internet about minoxidil and facial aging, wrinkles and collagen reduction. Thanks for sharing!

The funny thing about oral minoxidil is that the concept of it is very enticing. Based on a lot of videos , and reading clinical literature , the conclusion has always been the same ; that oral min is superior. Sad thing is that I've switched to oral minoxidil and I've lost a significant amount of hair from the crown and the hairline has been a wreck. Me being a doctor myself , I've very much aware of the long term effectiveness of a drug and the amount of time that is required for hairloss drugs to work. I'm on finasteride also but hair loss has been consistently creeping up. At the end of the after 8 months of use , my verdict on oral minoxidil is not at all positive.

Wow.. thank you docter. I am so impressed that you have answered my question in your special content on youtube. To be honest, I still have a lot of questions regarding the mysteries of DHT, baldness and minoxidil.
    1. Is there a link between extreme itching in the head and DHT accumulation? Because I experienced that even though I didn't have dandruff at all.
    2. Is dermaroler on the scalp useful for forming lost/shrinking hair follicles?
    3. Can I replace my 1 mg finasteride consumption with 0.5 mg dutasteride every day? Because during the 5 months of using finasteride 1 mg, I didn't feel any change in my hair loss. Why did it happen? Is my DHT really too high that it can't be treated with just 1 mg of finasteride? And are there any major side effects if I take dutasteride 0.5 mg every day?
    4. Please give an accurate answer, is it true that frequent masturbation in men can cause hair loss which leads to baldness? Or is it just a myth? If so, how does masturbation relate to baldness?
I will be very grateful and happy if the doctor is willing to answer questions that I have been struggling with all this time. Please explain, thank you doctor 🙏

    • @hairtransplantinindia
      @hairtransplantinindia  Год назад +2

It is postulated that DHT accumulation can be a cause of intense itching when you lose hair due to androgenic alopecia.
It is also postulated that perifollicular inflammation causes us to lose our hairs and this causes itching.
Dermaroller only causes hair to be retained due to inducing inflammation with its benefits of increased vascularity, etc.
Dutasteride should be taken in modest amount lest we become immune to DHT blockers- Reflex hyperandrogenecity. Watch my video on this.
It could be that you are not strategising your consumption of Finasteride optimally. Watch my video on this topic.
There is no link between masturbation and hair loss.

You have to take the lowest dose that is suited to you in consultation with your doctor or else the balding will get refractory to medications. Are you on oral Finasteride? If not, and if baldness is progressing , there is no alternative and you will be left high and dry and frustrated with medication in a few years time if not earlier.

There is so much difference will need 3 hours to explain. They are very different groups of drugs. While first 2 are antiandrogens (spironolactone is used for female hair loss), 3rd is a drug that enhances growth of hair by increasing blood flow and some other effects that are not well established. The last one delays hair loss progression in male pattern baldness and makes the hair lush as well. It is a DHT blocker.
