Glad you stated the rule 8.1 for the issue of dew. Pity all the other rules mentioned did not include the specific rule or local rule reference number.Likewise for "you'd get a penalty". Please specify if it's the general penalty (two strokes) or a one stroke penalty. In a video about clarification please provide all the information not just generalizations that could be open to misinterpretation. In addition, providing rules references encourages players to go find the rules and read them.
If you're not playing in a tournament...you're not breaking any rule. Have fun and play for enjoyment. 66 rounds this year and I have yet to get paired up with anyone who cares. However, in an official MATCH, perhaps it makes a difference.
You can ignore the rules if you choose to ignore them, but others may prefer to play the game by the rules. I’m sure others are like me and would not take satisfaction if they shot a great round with the help of ignoring the rules. Bad lie, no problem I will move it to a better lie. Ball out of bounds, no problem I will drop without a penalty stroke and on and on and then pat yourself on the back for shooting par. Go for it, but it’s not for me.
I thought this was true Regarding sand on the fringe of the green? If the sand was splashed after your ball came to rest (ie your partner played a bunker shot behind your ball and splashed sand in front of it) then you're allowed to remove the sand because you are entitled to the conditions when your ball came to rest.....
As far as the relief from the wrong green and not combining two rules… you are required to take the relief from the wrong green and would use the nearest point , no closer procedure. You are not required to then lift and place your ball to improve your lie even if that rule is available. One move is optional and one is not, so don’t combine them in tournament play.
There is one rule I follow in winter, my friend came up with it.. If you and who ever your playing with are 100% positive your ball landed in the first cut of rough but can't find it then it's a free drop
@nationalclubgolfer doesn't apply to myself, I started playing April this year and don't see myself ever entering a competition, want to keep golf as a fun hobbie
OK you can't remove frost (but who allows play on frost covered greens anyway)...but what about snow? It's rare but here in Ottawa you can get snow when it isn't cold enough to freeze the course and it will melt away except for shaded greens. Makes it
What if the leaves have been placed there by the course? The course I live on uses large blowers behind vehicles to move leaves off the fairway. “abnormal course conditions “
If your ball is on the green fringe and then another player subsequently hits a bunker shot that causes sand to fall between your ball and the green; can the sand be removed because the state of ground on your line has been altered?
If you’re searching for your ball in leaves etc and you accidentally move the ball I believe no penalty as long as you replace the ball on the spot and you do not have to replace the LI?
Good luck with every letter of the rules. Your ball being in a divot or sprinkler cap is a very simple drop. Hitting 3 drives off every tee is a different story. Play ball. Have fun.
So there's article after article about how golf is plagued by slow play. This video should help. Glad everyone can follow the precise rule when no one cares (and take another 10 minutes per hole)
@nationalclubgolfer not just the rule book, but the rules themselves. They should be there to make golf more fun, not penalise trivia. Why have to drop the ball then pick and place? Who have to lose stroke and distance off the tee? Someone should start from scratch and rewrite the rules with the aim of making the game more fun. I vote Steve Carroll to do it 😄
@@ianwhyld5916 Golf rules are not supposed to make the game fun. They are to make the game fair for everyone. There is a reason every "stupid" rule is written the way it is. So yes, it is a difficult, aggravating, exasperating, stupid game! Why do we even play it? Golf is not a game, it is an addiction!
In the winter the rules go into tĥe bucket. These rule boffins are nothing but a pain in the arse.. You go to play golf in the winter as a means to keeping fit. If you then play at the start of the season start playing to rules when compititions start. If you dont play compititions, agree between yourselves what to do. Give all these stupid rules a rest ffs.😅😂😅😂😅😂
Many clubs now insist on using winter mats on fairways and optional in semi rough. So if you are in a divot you would be placing the ball on your mat.
Many clubs? I have never seen or heard of this practice!
Parkland courses in Scotland generally use mats in winter due to saturated fairways.
Steve is an incredible addition to the content
Steve is the man
Really enjoying the new presenters. If this video was typical, keep up the good work. Keep employing the subtle humor. Good job, kudos!
Love the feedback thank you!
Loving this new style content lads
Thanks!
This is great content - didn't know any of it. Keep it up boys!
That’s Paul

Sounds like you don’t need any help with the rules Ian!

Imagine a course where weekend golfers are following “stroke and distance “ and walking back past the group behind!
presumably you dont submit scores for handicap purposes so dont take part in club competitions anyway.
66 rounds is a great effort!

How do you post your score if you are not following the rules

Very educational, thanks!

Good advice👍
This is very useful!
Thanks
The only winter golf rule is there are no rules. Have fun, its winter.
Lot of clubs hold competitions in the winter. Then there definitely are rules...😉

What about winter competitions!
@nationalclubgolfer doesn't apply to myself, I started playing April this year and don't see myself ever entering a competition, want to keep golf as a fun hobbie
Cheating is what that is
Great vid and really useful😊
Glad you think so!
Needed this for winter!
Hopefully not🤞🤞
Is there any rulings on medical conditions covering the likes of essential tremors?
I don’t think so Peter
What about the bloody nose you get from the group behind you if you go back and re-tee your third shot with fading daylight?
OK you can't remove frost (but who allows play on frost covered greens anyway)...but what about snow? It's rare but here in Ottawa you can get snow when it isn't cold enough to freeze the course and it will melt away except for shaded greens. Makes it
You can shift snow. It’s a loose impediment. It can be temporary water too. I’d be careful about creating a pathway to the hole, though!
We had hail last Friday in Iroquois, it made putting almost impossible.
Great question
With the drop in a plugged ball in the rough I take that you can't clean your ball though?
See your above response for the answer 😂
What if the leaves have been placed there by the course? The course I live on uses large blowers behind vehicles to move leaves off the fairway. “abnormal course conditions “
If they're piled for later removal then they're classed as ground under repair.
Great question
Are you allowed to "fluff up" the spot where you are placing your ball while selecting preferred lie ?
@@adyseven1 No. Afraid not.
If your ball is on the green fringe and then another player subsequently hits a bunker shot that causes sand to fall between your ball and the green; can the sand be removed because the state of ground on your line has been altered?

when is bunker sand not a loose impediment ?
Sand isn't a loose impediment. You can remove it if it's on the green - even if your ball isn't - and you can do it in the teeing area as well.
Good question
Good luck with every letter of the rules.

Hitting 3 drives off every tee is a different story.
Play ball. Have fun.
Enjoyment should be a priority👍👍
This is helpful thanks
You need to know the rules #wayward

Knowing the rules can speed up play
Good job that guy in white isn’t wearing a cap
It will make its triumphant return! Not enough up top to get through the winter without something...
Don’t be mean
Just checked myself you can
Yessir!
screw the local rule , it is MY rule i am going to follow . lol
😂
Golf has so many daft rules. Definitely puts people off
The rule book could absolutely be easier to navigate

I think he’s acting as though he doesn’t know them to initiate the conversation.😂
Or could he just be acting?! 🙄
