But divorce basically is a scarlet letter on her forever. So not only did he fully screw her over by filing for divorce because no one will want to marry a divorcee it’s taboo, but even if she was young and people could overlook it, if she had a child with him he’s fully fucked her over. It infuriates me because he married her and possibly had a child with her all the while knowing he didn’t want to be married to her and fully cheating on her online. There's something you have to understand about the Indian culture. You can literally be killed for being with a married man/woman or not fully divorced. Same goes for being with somebody who is not in the same caste. (Caste meaning different social society) A lot of times you can't even marry outside of your caste.
In the Indian culture you can be killed or beaten by the family even out in the streets where everybody sees it happening and they will keep going on about there business. They will not to get involved. That is why when they found out that Sumit was living with Jenny and he being still married to his arranged married wife. They could have taken him and his arranged married wife and done.what they wanted to both of them. Also have imprisoned Jenny and we do not know what it is like in a woman's prison in India..

Their society is still a very old tradition and if his parents do not agree with them getting married they can still stop them. Well it was a forced marriage for him not arranged one (arranged - matchmaking with consent, forced - forced, coerced etc), and the amount his dad paid was a refund for the dowry he received & wedding costs which the bride's family pays.

Sumit is a very clever, real and sympathetic guy - and he is getting stronger and stronger and standing up for himself. I was happy to see his parents thaw up a bit and I hope it continues. I would be proud to be family with him, and his choice with Jenny is such a pure one. She also clearly loves him.

You know I genuinely feel for Sumit. He seems so genuine about how much he cares for Jenny, and he's just been bogged down by his culture's expectations and his family's demands.
