Nice install Steve, one nice advantage of using the stay brite 8 is you really don't need to run a nitrogen purge as you don't need to get the copper up to brazing temperatures to use the solder...
Nice soldering job! The reusable heat dough is great for isolating the heat when you are soldering or brazing! Funny how years ago Goodman gwas the worst unit and c Trane was the best and today the reverse is true! Thanks for another awesome video Steve!
Nice job Steve! I just had a pair of goodmans, a 2.5 and 3 ton installed in my shop last week. They were nice with that heat we had and they will get a good run later this week too.
Good video. Im replacing my condensor, air handler & gas furnace this week. 2 ton 13 seer Goodmans. Guy is charging $4100 for everything. Connecticut coast.
This video makes it look easy. I'm thinking many viewers don't understand the entire process of sizing and going to supply house and waiting and loading and often back for more stuff. There are glitches on all installs and more time spent. Add more refrigerant etc. The best part of the job is when finished and look it over and everything looks good and the numbers make sense. Then you are thinking all is well with the world. You get home and the guy calls and sez...hey it isn't working. You better have a good sense of humor in this line of work....
Guess Goodman is pretty popular these days! My apartment complex uses them when replacing the older units. They replaced the air conditioner afew years ago, and the furnace about 2 years ago. 🤔 Both seem to work great.!👍 Yes, they're both Goodman. (The apartment originally had Williams.?)
hey Lav, Do you do a triple or double evac with nitro in between vacuums? -I'm curious why you don't used a txv vs piston on a new 13 seer unit? I know pistons are less problematic. Do you use say Brite so you don't technically need a nitro purge during soldering vs brazing? I know the micro channel are very easy to overcharge. I notice the service valve caps leak during vacuums sometimes. I'm usually leave the caps on with nylon during install to prevent going crazy trying to find a small leak during evacs. oh mama!
I see u used silver solder and didn’t run any N2O through the system to prevent carbonisation internally ? In the UK that void any compressor warranty ?
Nice Job as always, Steve. You're very confident with your cut-off wheel, b0ss. I'm sure that saves you a lot of time. For me, I'd probably end up having to fix other stuff around it if I tried to do that!
They should all be this easy nice to get a basement job once in a while for a replacement instead of sweating to death in a hot attic doing the same job nice videos as always,, no liquid line filter dryer?
15:30 - I was wondering why you were fluxing up those joints. I always keep that Stay Brite stuff on my torch kit but, I rarely use it. Usually only around/on expensive components or the occasional brass to copper connection like a txv to a brass cap tube manifold. I guess you use it on the everyday stuff too? To each his own. No denying that the lower melting temperature is a good thing :)
Hi Steve, Thanks to you guys on RUclips I've been able to get my package unit up and running with a 20 degree split using the superheat method. I have one question though I don't see any filter dryers or receiver dryers in the unit. Is that common for 2ton package unit?
ohhhh Mama! what tablet do you use for your sports smart tool and imanifold. i. cant decide which one to get. I don't want to use my phone anymore. thanks
Just FYI. The American Welding Society (AWS) defines soldering in terms of heat from the eutectic point to 800 F. Brazing is from 800 up to the melting point of the base metal. One is a process of adhesion, the other cohesion.
Going to try this one more time - (copy and pasted from my attempt at retrieving answer on FaceBook) I asked the original following message: **"Greetings, discovered your stuff on RUclips and have been watching it to refresh my knowledge since I haven't been doing HVAC work in years (HVAC universal ticket). Very nice work! I do however have a question; If you "swear by" stay-brite 8 then, why is it that I see you brazing 90%+ of your HVAC work instead of using stay-brite?" **YOU REPLIED: ..."I use both". **But, although that is an answer, that doesn't narrow down as to WHY or when?....That is like answering to a question - "would you like tea or coffee" and you answering "Yes"....What determines when you use SB-8 and why?....Thanks.
Steve you don't use Testos for recovering? Do you think it hurts testo? The case coil top dimensions matched perfect with that plenum you were pretty fast. Steve Lav is lighting fast yall! :)
hey Steve thanks for the video! I was wondering since you went from 22 to 410 did you flush that line set? what's your feelings on reusing the old line set when switching from 22 to 410? Thanks for the videos I'll keep watching.
ugh. Going by this vid im probably going to have to suck it up and get it done too. Got leaking near my pan drain line fittings. Not as much as she has but it can only get worse
Should always replace line set especially going from R-22 to 410-A you sure do some pretty shotty work also where is filter dryer especially after using old line set then you use stay Brite solder whats wrong with 45% it upholds higher pressure then you solder your line set with Schrader core steal in not good practice you should remove the Schrader core before soldering. Your lucky you don't work for me or around where I'm at.
I'm not sure of cost, but would guess around 1k. 134A is for vehicles only. Our houses use R22, which is old stuff and the new style is 410A. Always make sure you use what is recommended on the equipment itself or the owners manual.
Hey Steve been watching your videos for a while and noticed that some other people on RUclips that do HVAC work have been doing 407C retrofits on older R22 systems what do you think on 407C retrofits ?( on customers that don't want to spend the money)
407c is fine if you add oil with it to older systems . you have to be carefull the compressor has the right oil or you will kill it real fast better to use mo99 and you don;t have to add oil
+steven lavimoniere Thanks . I figured oil would have to be changed /added cause it's a different refrigerant I'm not an HVAC tek I was just curious on your thoughts because I think my condenser compressor is on its way out cause it makes a odd noise when it shuts off. The condenser is a trane installed in 2002 air handler is a late 80's early 90's rudd furnace. I think ill just replace both when it finally dies cause it's mismatched equipment and previous home owner smoked very heavily in the house i live in now and it was ran with out a air filter! (i don't smoke and plan to never start.) lived in the house little over a year now.
The Staybright 8 has a higher silver content thus making it stronger with a higher melting point that supposedly handles the pressures of 410A. Makes a clean joint on the inside but there are still some people that will only use silfloss. If you use silfloss you better have nitrogen running because when you get that copper red hot, oxidation on the inside happens within a few seconds and your pipe will be full of crud.
Could someone please answer my question I need an installer to contact me we had mother-in-law's units Kohl's put in the man said he spent it was 7 hours in the Attic installing the coals and the unit is not cooling correctly it was just done a few days ago and we cannot get a hold of the technician that done the job my friends mother-in-law needs her unit repair
You cant charge R410A liquid mode throughout the vapor line , R410a is to be charged as liquid mode only or you would need a converter to convert liquid to gas when charging using vapor line
let say this unit was 25 years old. weighing out a ne system compared what he wanted done condenser and evaporator. I would have replaced the 2 copper lines. I could see this turning into nickel and dime night mare for years. heat exchanger cracks no heat. everything's starting to disinigrate computer board fails parts don't match up. I like the idea. AND OF COURSE CHINAS GARBAGE. FAMOUS THE WORLD OVER, LO LOW QUALITY...................... THROW A PRICE IN...........IS IT REALLY WORTH IT,......how long will this setup.....last.....if i was so pissedd off. i 'd rent a mack truck and dump it in the busiist intersection in new your, the bad area. thell us whats good apout.....the price
Nice install Steve, one nice advantage of using the stay brite 8 is you really don't need to run a nitrogen purge as you don't need to get the copper up to brazing temperatures to use the solder...
Big job but you make it look easy. Great install. She's a Goodman mama!
Nice soldering job! The reusable heat dough is great for isolating the heat when you are soldering or brazing! Funny how years ago Goodman gwas the worst unit and c Trane was the best and today the reverse is true! Thanks for another awesome video Steve!

Good video. Im replacing my condensor, air handler & gas furnace this week. 2 ton 13 seer Goodmans. Guy is charging $4100 for everything. Connecticut coast.
Nice job Steve Lav!!! ...They only have enough charge for 15 ft of line...then you have to add .6 oz per foot of line set for Goodman
She's a leaker but she's coming out, mama. Another superior job by Steve Lav! Next level. 👍
This video makes it look easy. I'm thinking many viewers don't understand the entire process of sizing and going to supply house and waiting and loading and often back for more stuff. Another Goodman goes into service , Great Install Steve !!!!!!
She is a leaker!!!!!!! You got a New subscriber!!your videos help me to get my self in to HVAC thank you today was my first class here in Vegas.
Nice job! Yall so lucky up north down here in Texas were stuck working in tight fitting attics.
yeah have learned that the hard way came down from the north to increase my knowledge I learned the hard way as they say cant sysnd those attics
Thanks for these videos. You are awesome. And I like how u have your dog with you. Keeping an eye on the truck for you. Smart thinking.
You took a grinder on the coil copper?
no LL Drier near the piston inside vs outdoors? Does Goodman install driers inside their condensing units
I would love to do furnace or an AC add on- replacement with you steve
Just wanna say you have some of the most informative videos thanks
Does the cut off wheel leave a bunch of debris inside the copper suction/pressure lines ? Just curious if that is avoidable?
hey Lav, Do you do a triple or double evac with nitro in between vacuums? -I'm curious why you don't used a txv vs piston on a new 13 seer unit? I know pistons are less problematic. Cut the suction line with the tubing cutter and use a 3/4 street 90 and your done. Clean fit and 2 joints to sweat in.
Show those cellar dwellers how its done....Next Level !!!!!! Nice work!
I see u used silver solder and didn’t run any N2O through the system to prevent carbonisation internally ? In the UK that void any compressor warranty ?
Nice job as always Steve. Next level momma!
Just curious why you soft solder instead of hard soldering with an oxygen/acetylene torch?
good workmanship thanks steve

Nothing a grinder can't fix. I use Goodman all my new houses
Was the condensor aluminum coil as well?
looked like that house has solar PV, based on that disconnect switch next to the breaker panel.
I was taught to use brazing rods in school. Is it ok to use silver solder on high pressure refrigerant like 410A?
15:30 - I was wondering why you were fluxing up those joints. I always keep that Stay Brite stuff on my torch kit but, I rarely use it. THATS WHY HE HAS THE SHOW AND YOU DONT....
@@russellwatson8145 for sure :)
Why you using sof solder with 410a?
I’ve never seen that before
Would have liked to see how you purged out that reclaiming unit. Can you write a short description. I'm a newbie learning. Thanks.
watch some a.c. replacement videos you will see how its done
Yeah I've watched a bunch..........just wanted to double check with the Master HVAC technician!
Hi Steve, Thanks to you guys on RUclips I've been able to get my package unit up and running with a 20 degree split using the superheat method. I have one question though I don't see any filter dryers or receiver dryers in the unit. Is that common for 2ton package unit?
Great job and video
good job steve, can you make a video on wiring low voltage from the condenser to the furnace to the thermostat, and heat pump thank jeff
Really...cutting the copperr whit grinder...
Excellent job Steve
mama steve lav is working again mama
Good job, you do good work. Thanks for the video.
hey Steve, do you use CPS Products? do you used the field piece slr8 for leak detection of 22 and r410
I didn't see the Dryer in the lineset.
Hi is it possible for a installer to take 7 hours in an attic 2 install two new calls in a three-and-a-half ton unit Goodman
ohhhh Mama! what tablet do you use for your sports smart tool and imanifold. i. cant decide which one to get. I don't want to use my phone anymore. thanks
Great job Steve
love the zip cutter gotta get me one of those
oh Mama! micro channel evsp coil! you run into any issues with the microchannel leaking? thanks for the info
lovely baby dog

steve how do u like the turbo torch????
The dweller in the cellar...hahahaha! Good work Steve.

you can use the testo for recovery .i just use a old set of analoge gauges in case its a burn out.... est
hey Steve thanks for the video! I was wondering since you went from 22 to 410 did you flush that line set? what's your feelings on reusing the old line set when switching from 22 to 410? Thanks for the videos I'll keep watching.
i reuse the line set sometimes depends .if its easy to get to i replace them .or blow them out .with nitrogen
Got the truck all cleaned out HaHaa
and how to wire in safety switch in a over flow pan and in the coil
29:41 Cute dog. :-)
ugh. Going by this vid im probably going to have to suck it up and get it done too. Got leaking near my pan drain line fittings. Not as much as she has but it can only get worse
Thanks Steve. You da man. Your video is next level.
Fantastic work Steve next level
thanks harry
+steven lavimoniere another top job lav keep on keepin on
Looks like that furnace is a GMPN series 92%er
Good job Steve!!!
I did one of those last week, same goodman equipment.
How long did it take you?
excellent steve thank's for sharing say hi 2 doggie for me!!!!
good job Steve!
Enjoy your videos steve! I notice you have new testo 550. What happen to testo 570??👍
WHY DO YOU WEAR CLOVES....
nice job steve!!
i have no idea what you doing, but it's interesting. :)

Thank you 🙏
Don't you flush the line set?
No need it went up and then down...nowhere for oil to sit ....so it wasn't necessary
how much for a unit like that..can I used 134a in it..
I'm not sure of cost, but would guess around 1k. 134A is for vehicles only. Our houses use R22, which is old stuff and the new style is 410A. Always make sure you use what is recommended on the equipment itself or the owners manual.

Nice job
thanks for watching
One of these days I'll get over the fear of use staybright 8, brazing just gets too damn hot.
Next level next level mama
No nitrogen when you braze?
He soldered not brazed....don't get hot enough to cause scaling in the lines
What? No gloves for the sleepy removal on Baby Dog? Lol
I was under the impression that with R410a you have to use braze due to the increased pressures...

Ah...thank you for that bit of information I may have to re-evaluate my process because that is easier to do then waist my dry nitrogen...
The last 5 ac I have done I had to add freon
its all part of it adding gas many leakers out there
cool
Happy birthday
Nice installation Steven! Did you get my birthday card? LOL :)
not yet
Damn, the Post Office is slow! Should have it by Tuesday afternoon. Happy Birthday!!
i did get it thanks just checked the mail box

Kohl’s and coals??? What?
Nick level nick level
I'm surprised to see you are selling GOOMAN units. Most of the videos I have watched have techs saying how shitty they are.
I know this is old, but he said the existing furnace was a Goodman so that’s why he went with a matching set

no LL Drier near the piston inside vs outdoors? Does Goodman install driers inside their condensing units?
Nice job Steve.
No nitrogen when you braze?
With stay bright 8 it's not necessary. The temp that the silver solder melts at is low enough to prevent scale from forming on the inside of the tube.
