The Dynamic Hepnotics were an Australian soul, blues and funk band which formed in 1979 and disbanded in 1986. Mainstay, lead vocalist and front man, "Continental" Robert Susz formed the group in Sydney. They had chart success on the Australian Kent Music Report Singles Chart with a top 5 single, "Soul Kind of Feeling" in 1984. It was followed by "Gotta Be Wrong (Way to Love)" which reached the top 20 in 1985. Their album, Take You Higher, reached the top 20 on the related Albums Chart in June. In 1986, "Soul Kind of Feeling" won the APRA Music Award for 'Most Performed Australasian Popular Work'. Peace out

Takes me back to university days. We had this small 60s revival in Australia back in the mid 80s and these guys found a way to fit the bill. They played a bit with ska and soul for a couple of years before this took off. Gotta Be Wrong is another goodie by these guys.
The early 80s were an epic time for Australian pub rock. Honestly I have no idea how many times I saw the Dynamic Hepnotics, Mentals, Chisel, Jon English and the Foster Brothers, Jo Jo Zep and so many others.
I had so much fun seeing this group live with my friends from 1982 to 1985. Late 20's.. Thirty around the corner... Then I turned 30 and just continued partying.. lol
Good time band! I really like Gotta Be Wrong, which I think came out around the same time(?). I also love a singer/songwriter named Billy Field. ''You Weren't In Love With Me'', ''Bad Habits'' and ''True Love'' were my favourites by him. I'm really loving the almost daily flashbacks here! 😍
Absolutely adore Conti (Rob) he is indeed the real deal! Still got the moves and boy does he play a mean harmonica! CR is as good & impressive on a blues harp as his falsetto… he makes them (mouth organ) sing & sound insane! He is a beloved & still very active live muscian-artist that has the same energy as always! Only thing different, is he is now a silver fox… same gorgeous energy, same generous musical soul & spirit. I played bass in a soul revival band back in the late 80s early 90s and we added this one and it NEVER failed to get people dancing. ‘Continental’ Robert Susz is their vocalist and he had a great delivery. That album Take You Higher had lots of great feeling tunes. This was the pick of the bunch for me and their debut hit. Gotta Be Wrong (Way To Love) got to top 20, but I think Whenever You’re Ready tops it easily. For a more modern good feeling tune with a soul styling I like Morcheeba’s Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day (studio version). Having steered you right once again I’ll gently but shamelessly plug Stanley Clarke’s song Lopsy Lu (studio version). Cheers!
I remember dancing to this song as a teenager and really liking it as a tune. I can't say it's my big 80's thrill. I don't get the same out of this song as I get from Go-West's ''We Close Our Eyes'' or Wham's big hits or A-ha, or local Aussie hits like Mental As Anything's ''Live It Up''. I remember hanging out with friends at malls or The Pancake Parlour and this tune would be on in the background and it was nice. I'm happy to see you guys do Dynamic Hepnotics, but I actually liked ''Hepnobeat'' more because the music video amused my simple little mind at the time. Pups... 🐕
I feel the same way, Pups. It was alright for its the time. It sold units, got its radio play and offended nobody. They were most likely peering into whatever was going on in England and thought they'd take a piece for themselves. They played the music they loved and earned themselves a couple of nice background hits. It was okay to hear when I was 14, and it's okay to hear now. I feel the same way about The Cat Empire. They're good, but so what?
I thought you Countdown kids would have loved it seeing that the video was made by one of your own. Directed by Fiona Cochrane, who was a Countdown kid for a very short period in the mid 70's. Maybe before your time as a Countdown kid.
They were popular with my older sister and her friends. I note a "Once was R Strathfield" requested it. This band appeared at my sister's school - Santa Sabina (in Strathfield - where they filmed "Brides of Christ" also)
Hey that's really cool! A girl I fancied went to Santa Sabina, but that was many years after Dynamic Hepnotics were happening. I attended De La Salle college in Ashfield.
Great 80's Aussie party song. Had a couple of good hits like this one. Fairly short lived from memory but they left their mark. What more can you ask for? Fine choice.
I downloaded this off LimeWire, and my computer freaked out (infected file!!), but it's a great song. Probably a bit earlier than this was Billy Fields with Bad Habits. It's jazz, not soul, but worth a listen.
