Love this song saw on Flying Doctors played at a funeral and I said this is the song for my funeral. Now I’ve had a poor diagnosis so actually planning for it now. Dancing and singing to it today. It’s special 🤗
Finally!!!! I finally found it !!! I’ve been looking for this song for years and had no idea who sung it I heard this song in neighbours when people used to come into the coffee shop in the 80s , I loved it then!! And I love it now! 😄 I’m one happy bunny
Me too! Although, I knew the actual lyrics till now 😂 assume it was a popular tune from the jukebox in the coffee shop during Harold and Madge's tenure!
I was in a jazz band in the 80s, we played an instrumental version of this track (we didnt have a Continental Robert!). But I loved to ham it up, waving my Tenor Sax around. Hearing this again brings back some great memories :) Not to mention, its a great piece of music and a cut above most of what you hear even today 👍
Ponsonby Rd Auckland NZ mid 80s. 14 years old. A hamburger joint named Hamburger Heaven. It’s not there anymore. But I remember hearing this song there for the first time. Loved it then. Love it now.
Great North Road, Greylynn, Auckland, Uncles Burger Bar, mid 80's playing Galaga (arcade game )while waiting for my shake and Uncles sea dog while music like this was on the airwaves.....cool times.....before all the yuppys moved in lol
Bondi Tram mid 80's, went in to check the band, these guys were playing, met a lovely Irish girl (Mary with gorgeous natural auburn hair, I know right) we kinda hit it off and spent the night dancing, talking and listening to the band, unfortunately it was her last night in Australia, she was flying back to Ireland the following day, I dropped her off at South Head and could tell she wanted to invite me in but thought better of it, Every time I hear this song it reminds me of that night and I wish sometimes I hadn't have acted so cool and nonchalant and let her go in alone.
Oh, god! HOW MANY YEARS has it been? CANNOT believe it's been 35! Started in radio back in '84 when I was 18 and this is one of the songs I played when I started on air. Oh, the mammeries!
This takes me back to the fantastic 80's. I remember hearing this song for the first time on Choose 1985 with other classics Ghostbusters and Sunglasses at Night. There is nothing like the sound of an 80's classic like this at full volume on the old vinyl LP.
I've always really liked this song, but for some reason I've been hearing it at my local supermarket several times over the last few weeks and it gets me every time and I've just suddenly realised just how brilliant this record really is in every single way. The vocals are simply next level, the brass arrangement reminds me of that great Dexy's Midnight Runners sound, there's a real bounce to the rhythm thanks to that killer bass line. The lyrics are a great homage to the great soul songs ('My Girl', 'Stand By Me', 'You Send Me')... this song should've been an international smash, it's timeless.
Agree with your comments. I thought it was average when it came out, however over the years I've grown to love the song, especially Robert Susz's vocals.
@@The1nsane1 Thanks. I also think that a lot of 80's music can sound a bit dated today because of the cold synth sounds and the over-processed drums etc. But this one has a really natural cookin' vibe to it which is possibly why it's improved over time.
I LOVED this song when it came out. I broke two or three cassette copies of "Choose 1985" because I'd do nothing but rewind and replay the second track on one of the sides -- this song.
Ha ha funny as hell, that was the first tape I ever got, for my 7th birthday, along with a walkman. "I wear my sunglasses at night" etc. Last track was Agadoo.

Was never into Neighbours. Always remembered this song as iconic though because it was played at the death of one of the main characters from The Flying Doctors (the pilot?).
This was filmed in Newtown at a record shop.....more or less spontaneous ....with loyal fans (R & B -Soul devotees-sharp dressers 50's style) .... and.....anyone that was passing by just joined the party....(p.s. most sharpies had been exterminated by civilized long hair surfies by the late 70's thankfully.) But yes very Aussie & proto-daggy....Hepnos live gigs were dance marathons....and ...."Dynamic" 🏋♀
What a fantastic song, kinda feels like one of those songs that would fare well in a 80s/90 Movie or something haha... sad that these songs don't get the recognition they deserve. :/
Came back to this via a mention in the late Tony Cohens book describing his mad life in recording. What a read, consumed it in one day , a very different era in the early & heady days of Aus rock.
I’ve heard this song hundreds of times over the years. Radio was a huge part of life in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s. Both TV and radio had a captive audience and with there only being so few channels relative to today’s choice it’s a big reason why more people felt like part of society. You didn’t have to go far to find someone who watched the same show on TV, there was only 4 channels. The local radio station was the only one that had clear reception so literally everyone in town listened to the same music at the same time, all the time. I think it relates to how we are today. Splintered. Choice always seems like the best idea but when you are forced to watch or listen to stuff even if 3:44 you don’t like it, it gives you a sense of how others tick.
This is and will always be a favourite of mine, Continental Bob still going strong. It's sad seeing Rob Souter though, and to think 20 years later he joined the Mentals !
@@joshvr2001 I remember a night when the band played in Queenscliff Vic and after the gig they came back to my Mums place because Allen was interested in toby Jugs and my mum used to paint them when she was young. The whole band were great.
I only saw these guys once...at a warehouse or something in Summer Hill (?) Sydney...late 80's....my son and I squeezed thru the fence ( along with many others) and watched several Aussie bands....and these guys were awesome !! Great song , great band !
