After every book ive read i go listen to your summary to clear things out. :)
Yeah. Me too. I might not even stay with it if it were not for these summaries.
I was just about to comment this 😂
Good to know I'm not alone in this... The struggle of not understanding yet understanding at the same time
I listen to the audiobook and when I'm not paying attention I miss details and I'm confused about what's happening. It's nice to have these videos to help me realize what's important and to get a better handle on what happened.
I just found these and I'm on book 7 now. I'm gonna do the same. It is a LOT of information, these are probably the most useful videos on RUclips. Daniel is kind of an unsung hero of the fiction world.
This book made me like Perrin, before i didn't really care much about him but he grew so much in this book. Mat has always been my favorite character, i didn't like Rand either until he finally started "manning up" to his destiny. I hope there's more of Mat in the next book, he was more like a side character in this one but i didn't mind because i was so engulfed by Perrin finally becoming a badass.
rand didn't decide on having the maidens as body guards, in fact he patently doesn't like it. that was their decision because he was the first son of a maiden to ever be known for who he was. normally unless a maiden puts down the spear the child would be adopted out anonymously and the mother would never know where they ended up. his mother never put down the spear, yet they know who his mother is. she also wasn't supposed to be in battle while preggers anyway, but her lover and clan chief could not deny her.
kght222 all that is a factor but he does also kind of chooses them with a slip of the tongue when he says “far dareis Mai carries my honor” which he probably meant for just that occasion but they kind of decide that since they carry his honor anything happening to them means they incur toh even if he asks it. Because that’s just how Aiel roll
I got to book 5 a 6 or 7 years ago and then stopped and had 3 kids. finally have some time to pick it up again so i don't want to start all over. This has been great. I feel caught up. good job.
Mat had an Odin experience- hanging from a tree to gain knowledge-and getting a spear that never misses marked with 2ravens
Perrin's family was actually killed by the Whitecloaks. Everyone just blamed Trollocs.
I mean it was really fain tho, the white cloaks themselves just covered it
Wasn't it Dain Bornhald who killed Perrin's family and that "Mordeth" then covered it up to look like Trollocs did it...??
@@NicoleArends almost. Mordeth was the one who killed them, but that was confirmed in the last book.
@@NicoleArends no Mordeth was the one that killed them along with a group of whitecloaks. Bornhald then covered it up and made it look like Trollocs to prevent a scandal
I've just finished book 4. Regarding Mat. When he awakens after the effect of the knife, he speaks something in the Old Tongue. Just then the reader is told a story of a battle strategists who's known as a gambler. He speaks something about rolling the dice. Later he wins against Gawyn and Galad, who are the best warder interns (can't remember if they have a specific title); then their teacher says something like one of the greatest swordmaster was defeated by a farmer with a quarterstaff.
So, coming back to Rhuidean, what I think happens is that when Mat wishes for his lost memories, he gets the memories of all his previous incarnations (?) (avatars?), and I came to the conclusion that Mat is an incarnation /avatar(?) of a hero-esque person from the Age of Legends, just as Rand, who I think is supposed to be an avatar of The Dragon.
Can't wait to read book 5 and compare notes.
The most important part you forgot was how Rand saw and cut Asmodean's attachment to the Dark One.
See, I was thinking Rand did that, but in FOH he mentions that he cant see the weave that Lanfear used to shield Asmodean.
@@DarkClaw0912 I'm pretty sure cutting his attachment to the Dark One removed his immortality and immunity to the madness; however, the shield prevents him from channeling as one does not NEED to be attached to the Dark One to channel
@@ishanabhi4540 I guess I just misunderstood what Rand did in Shadows. I thought it was the source that he cut Asmodean off from, not the Dark One. TBH, I had bored the book from the library and was trying to finish before I had to return it.
@Anne Day yeah, there was a lot going on at that point. And I was reading a library copy, and needed to turn it back in the very next day. So I was kinda sprinting through the end, trying to finish it.
@@ishanabhi4540I just finished it and that's how I understood it.
In Ruidian, Mat didn't meet the same creatures (snakes) he met the fox people.
Vicki Hale ehh that can be excused since even mat thought they were the same at the time
exhausted headcase Except for the connection with the game Snakes and Foxes and Mat's foxhead medallion.
One was the Eelfinn and the other Aelfinn I believe.
And they also don't answer questions. They trade three things for a price.
I loved the first 3 books, but THIS book is what convinced me I was going to be a huge fan of the entire series. 2 of my all time favorite moments in the series so far happened in this book. When Rand tried to revive the girl, and when Perrin was organizing the last defense of his home town. Both parts we incredible.
10:30 Egeanin wasn't exposed by Nynaeve and Elayne, Bayle Domon Exposed her as seanchan when he walked in on their conversation. Cerandin was the seanchan that Nynaeve and Elayne recognized by accent. She was apart of Luca's menagerie.
"She do be Seanchan!"
This is the book when Mat becomes my favorite character. In many of the books he barely shows up and I almost stopped reading the books because of this.
Phant0mNights why is mat people favorite???
@@mrsaunders9989 I'm not the person you asked, but it's basically the same reason people like Batman. No actual super power but is just a regular rogue who does seriously badass things.
@@mrsaunders9989 Mat is great!
I Swearrr, I'm currently wading through the murky waters that is The Path Of Daggers, and keep looking out for my fav dude but alas, keep being disappointed.
It's a tough read without him
@@vincentkrisiak6337 also, it's the sheer rebellion and reluctance with which he does these things! He literally tried to run from the shaido lmaoo.
Thanks Daniel. About to start 'The Fires of Heaven' and needed a quick summary of this book.
I could have sworn it was going to be Logain who was going to teach Rand, then the last 10 pages changed that...or maybe he still will, no spoilers please...ON TO BOOK 5!!!
I"m halfway through book 6 and realized I needed a refresher. These are perfect!
Thank you for doing these, I was thinking of going back and re-reading the series again and I just don't think I have it in me to read EVERY one of them again. This has been a great alternative to get caught up on the first ten books or so and start from there, so, THANK YOU!!
The fox people are actually different from the snake people in the way that they do not answer in truth, but grant wishes. Thats why they dont answer Mat when he asks them questions, but reply Yes, to the 3 sentences he speaks. Thats why he gets the memories and also got lucky when he saus he wants to leave that place. Also Mat didnt know jack about aelfinn giving the truth and eelfinn granting wishes so he just assumed he had to ask questions😂
They reply done not yes
You're right; he seriously lucked out with his rant of requests.
Got that spear too
Padan Fain actually was the one who killed perrin's family, he admits to it in a monolouge in one of the chapters.
Couladin shows his tattoos first. Which is a small detail, but I thought that was a good choice by Jordan. Can't blame you for missing it. There was a couple of things you reminded me of and I just finished the book last night.
Major plot point of Asmodean gets cut off from the dark one during their fight. So he has to help Rand because he will go insane channeling without that link. His only hope for the future becomes the Dragon's victory.
Not all wise ones can channel
This is my all time favorite book!!!! I love it so much.
And fires of heaven is my 2nd favorite book in the series!
Note. My favourite bit is when going into the city as they weren't allowed weapons Matt impresses the aiel (people who live for fighting) with how many weapons he has on himself
And then regretted not keeping one lmao when he had to have a chat with the fox folk
Thom tought him well.
He'd be proud.
Thom tought him well.
He'd be proud.
Great recap. I just finished my reread of The Shadow Rising. I am moving on to The Fires of Heaven. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos and all that you do on your channel.
Boy I sure feel dumb when you say how obvious Lanfear being part of the peddler group and Lord Luc being Slayer are. Neither clicked for me until they were essentially outright stated
I have loved these video’s! So glad someone has taken the time to summarise these books your level of detail is ace not too short but also not too long and over detailed 👍
I've seen this channel grow over time. Congrats my dude well deserved.
THE FANS WANT RECAP OF A RECAP
💯💪
FAX!
I'm enjoying these episodes very much. You fill in gaps where I have misconstrued events. Thanks.
Alcair dal the Golden Bowl as Mat calls it, is the place where the confrontation happens. Cold Rocks Hold was a dinner party.
Just finished book 4. Loving the series. Keep up the great work you did a good job summarizing
This was one of my favorite books of the series when I read it in highschool. Awesome summary, reminds me of the reasons I loved it!
Bless for the videos. Started reading these too young and you brought me right back to pace.
These summary videos are really a lifesaver I'm getting so much more out of the story then I would without them thank you ✌👍
Matt didn't meet the same creatures as the first time. At first he meets the Aelfinn (snakes) the second time he meets the Eelfinn (foxes). This is important
Loving your videos. You give an excellent summary and then the viewers always clear up the small specifics in the comments. I've started the 7th book probably five or six times in the last few years but haven't been able to finish it, so these videos are awesome. I'm finally at a place where once I finish these summaries, I can finish the 7th book and carry on with the series!
I love the fact that only through this story recap have i realised that the bubble of evil affects the three guys is major foreshadowing of the inner turmoil they face later on i.e rand and himself/lews therin, mat and the cards/ dice in his head, and perrin and his relationship with his axe.
Great summary. I just wish that you had spent more time explaining WHY Far Dareis Mai decide to serve as Rand's bodyguards (not the other way round). The Maidens become a very important part of Rand's arc, I feel, and are much more than his mere bodyguards.
In hindsight you're absolutely right. I almost want to redo all of these summaries. I have gotten better I think and they are not up to the standard I want.
Daniel Greene I'm just glad that you did these summaries. Like many people in the comments, I am continuing with the series after a long time, and these summaries help in remembering things. On book 8 right now, and will watch all of these once I have completed the series. Also, you struggling with Leane's name was so relatable. I am now listening to the audiobooks now, and realise that I was absolutely butchering some of these names. Thanks for these videos!
@@DanielGreeneReviews do it!
@@DanielGreeneReviews agreed your later summaries are much better. Go again.. we will all support you!!
It's always so satisfying for me to watch one of these summary videos, Daniel, because I watch them in order after I've finished each book in the series. Now I've finished book 4 and I'm starting to feel like I know my way around the series; looking forward to finishing it off one book at a time, and watching your summary video for the corresponding book too!
love this, it's been awhile since I've read these awesome books. I'm waiting on the next Dresden Files book to come out, so maybe it's time to read WoT again
Thats awesome! Started reading the series in 94 in the navy with the great hunt. Read the series multiple times but years ago. That was a way good brush up before the epic looking show starts this coming Friday! Thanks man! Wife and son are fans too.
Daniel your videos are great, please keep making them on a regular basis, keep it up!
hmmm, yes, yes, i have to say: YOU DO REALIZE I HAVE TO WORK TOMORROW MORNING AND I CAN'T STOP WATCHING THIS, the light burn you, i have to watch one more clip after this one before i am catch up to where i am at the moment.
I really liked the chapters in previous books about padan fain. Especially when he breaks out of prison, I hope he comes into it more.
Think you may have overlooked the Medallion Mat wore after he left Ruidam. The Medallion plays an important part in Mat's future survival. But I enjoyed hearing your breakdowm; it helps clarify various points in the book
I know this is an old video but thank you dork making these. This is where I left of before deployment and I really needed this to move on
My favorite stretch of any read-through of this series is Books 2-4. The books might as well be named Rand, Mat, Perrin, and its just chicken soup for my soul to read them.
egeanin was looking for sul'dam, not damane, because she discovered they could be collared as well
I love
the bubbles of evil.
Freakin brilliant summaries so far. Yes, there are a couple of minor discrepancies in them, but I see it as very minor and seriously, overall, great summaries that I'm really enjoying. Thanks for these!
Best thing about this book IMO is Moiraine getting some of her own treatment from Rand, by him not telling her anything about his plans. Really Hope the tv series manages to somehow make the character of Moiraine more untrusty, as I am thinking of her after reading boods up to TSR. Sadly this was mainly in the first book as in book she was non existent and in book 3 did not much.
Hey, thanks for the recap! This really helped jogged my memory, I almost reread the book but decided to use your video instead!
Man, I wish some one'll do this for Malazan. I took a break from WoT after this book. But the series keeps calling to me.
I have tons of notes :D
Just finished the book the next best thing your video summarizing it !!!
This is exactly what I needed after having interrupted WoT to read three other books
Excellent summary. Thank you for the work
Awesome vid dude! Only thing I could think of you missed was the reveal that Lanfear was one of the AES Sedai that creates the bore when looking for a new power source
David Tillapaugh
Yes it was, Rand first sees Mierin in his flashback in Ruidean and it is confirmed when Asmodean calls Lanfear Mierin at the end of the book and she becomes pissed.
CheckOutMyPokemons oh damnnnn
I quit the series after book 11 and then later read New Spring. I'm listening to these summaries to get back up to speed so I can read the Sanderson books and finally finish the series. I've been surprised at how much I remember from the books so far.
Watch this on 0.75 speed...thank me later
Did you speed up the video? You seem to be talking incredibly fast. Other than that, I love this series you're doing!
I set the speed down to .75 and it was easier to follow.
Big flex time, I watch at 2x speed. Yeah, huge brain.
@@darkingbogs same!
Aye just wanted to say thanks for the recaps, they help a ton with organizing my thoughts before jumping into the next book 🤙
I love these vidoes it takes me so long to get through the books I need these between books to remember what happend in each book. will brobasbly need to binge all of these once am through the slog books.
It's Rand that cuts Asmodean from the True Source. Rand figures out how to cut the threads (by considering what Lanfear did to him in Tear) holding the Forsaken from the Dark One, a feat thought impossible by the shadow. In doing so he gains his male teacher for channelling and without the nastiness.
The Finn are so interesting. I'm wondering how the show will represent them and their extra-dimensional world. Maybe something similar to Doctor Strange where the world looks folded in on itself, but that will probably cost way too much money.
I’m about to start book 5, this was very helpful thank you
I always look forward to these summaries after reading a WOT book. My only criticism is that it seems sped up which was kind of distracting.
The way you said Nanana poo poo was adorable. Lol I reworded like 50 times
I just finished Book 3 and it was so so good. Can't stop reading. Totally want to read Book 4 but I really don't have the time. Thanks for these summaries!!
Thanks for doing these !!! Love it. Wow you can talk fast !!!
Some Wise Ones can channel but not all, it is not a requirement for joining. It is interesting that ALL (female) Aiel with the spark are found and trained, whatever their strength. The White Tower rejects anyone below a certain power level. Also, one of the most influential and powerful Wise Ones can't channel a drop of the One Power. ;-) The Aes Sedai have a hidden hierarchy based on how powerful you are in the Force... No, wait! :-P
I have a feeling that it should be mentioned that Rand is half Aiel, as her mother was the one dying giving birth to him at Dragonmount where he was later found by Tam al'Thor. So he has a certain claim to being their leader, he is not just an outsider/wetlander.
Hey, I finished this book a couple of months ago and there's still one thing that I'm very confused about. I just started crown of swords, so no spoilers from book 7 and onward please :)
The thing I'm confused about is when Perrin first sees Slayer clearly, he notes that he looks a lot like Lan. Nyneave also sees a man outside Rhuidean in TAR at some point who looks so much like Lan that hit shocks her immensely, so at first I though it must be the same man, but what would Slayer be doing near Rhudiean? I think the man Nyneave saw ends up being Asmodean, that would make sense anyway since he was doing stuff around Rhuidean at this point, but it makes no sense for Asmodean and Slayer to be the same person as I first concluded, so is the guy who both Perrin and Nyneave think looks like Lan Slayer or Asmodean?
Hmmmmm... I can't know for sure, but I thought it was the same person. It would be an awfully big coincidience for two men, both resembling Lan, both using bows in the Dreaming, and both hostile to our heroes. I didn't question why these two sightings would be in vastly different areas, Two Rivers vs Rhuidean, bc of how Dreamers can travel crazy distances in a blink. But you could be right. I don't remember if they were both wearing the bright coat like Slayer was, Were there other differences you noted?
You are remembering it wrong. Those were two different encounters. Nynaeve accidentally finds herself in the Waste after idly wondering where Rhuidean is, and sees Asmodean. She does not get close enough to see his face, but Birgitte chases her away at arrowpoint before he sees her. She jumps to Emond's Field, and sees Slayer who DOES shoot at her, so she wakes up.
It seems to me like Wheel of Time is about warfare. Like, real warfare; I can imagine Col. John Boyd talking about how these battles illustrate the OODA loop. Very interesting. Like, Military Fantasy.
Rebirth of Manetheren, I love it
thanks Daniel
I don’t quite understand the skimming stuff, is it real world or in a dream like Perrin jumping over mountains?
That was good Daniel thanks
Mat also got the Fox medallion which protects him from saidar.
when I read this I was like... hey there's a new powerful guy killing wolves, hey there's a new random guy called lord Luc... I wonder what 1+1 is?
My oh my, the thumbnails. So peculiar.
20:39 Mat is Odin, change my mind
This book was more on development of characters am enjoying the storyline as it goes this is fun
Man I can’t wait to see Loial closing the waygate in the TV show. Will be epic!
I'm ready to laugh at Perrin fighting his own axe 🪓🤣
Dude you have to remake this video. I have watched your later summaries of WOT books and really enjoyed them. But this one sounds like you OD'd on coffee :-( The Shadow Rising is on of my favourite WOT books. You gotta do it better justice bro. (Also thanks heaps for your other works I really do enjoy your channel)
Dude love your reviews and totally understand you cant cover everything BUT the visions Rand saw from the Age of Legends - you didn't even mention them and this for me was a HUUUGGGEEE part of why this book is one of my favorites (if not the favorite). These visions absolutely rocked my world - my friend who ws into fantasy kept trying to get me to read TWOT series and I being more a Sci Fi fan would always be am jerk and ask him how many elves and dwarves and such were in it though he adamantly defended it.
I finally picked up Eye of the World one bored night and never looked back. Possibly because I came from more of a Sci Fi background I kept asking him if this was Earth (there were Cats, this for some reason made me think it was Earth) or some alternative universe Earth or some other planet, and if Earth when? didn't seem too fit anywhere. We could now discuss theories and have reasoned amazing conversations as I was now a fan instead of a ridiculing arse. When I got to Rand in Rhuidean and the visions I was stunned...Jo Cars, Planes, Genetic Engineering, super advanced architecture - this was Earth, so far in the past, or so far in the future that "when?" barely had meaning and suddenly made sense of the whole cyclic Wheel of Time/Ages come and go intros that I had often slimmed thru as so much fantasy fluff.
I was now hooked more than ever...the Fantasy Magic Spell hocus locus was now real concrete technology that was so advanced it looked like magic and was essentially, when then one Forsaken asks Ran d if he knows what Stars really are..stuff like that gets me at the c ore of my nerd-geek soul, I suppose part of me fears this could really happen (our tech is lost thru some disaster and we get knocked back into the Stone Age and now we- Us from NOW - are their Age of Legends.
And I suppose on some level part of me thinks this has more than likely already happened and the remnants of that Age of Legends are the Megalithic ruins we couldn't recreate today, like the Great Pyramid (our Stone of Tear, grin), the giant stone boxes of the Serum, Sacseyhuaman's puzzle like walls, the enormous blocks of Baalbek and other countless ruins and anomalies the world over, to the foods we rely on even now that were engineered -erm, developed out of nowhere during a remotely ancient time when we were supposedly barely advanced enough to make a spear, much less develop Corn, cut to optical flatness on all sides and moved sometimes hundreds lot miles from the quarries. Some "experts" will laugh and dismiss without ever explaining how and many others will just refuse to acknowledge such things much like characters in the books, all the while the truth known to the leaders of the various factions but hidden from the general populace to keep the status quo.
n. Wow, I just took off on a tangent but hey, we're discussing WOT. :-) I still have to finish the last 5-6 books (I know). But just wanted to make my voice heard for the visions lf Rhuidean and the History Rand witnesses because to me it was some of the most powerful and relevant (warnings?) parts of the series. Great reviews other than skipping this, and love your WOT vids!!!
I would love if you made summarys or summarys videos.
Love your content and these videos, but you missed a lot in this one. I also have the advantage of coming to watch these right after I finish reading. Still love your content!
The Aiel
The Adem from Kingkilller Chronicles.
The Fremen from Dune.
How come every time there’s a people barely scraping by in the desert, they’re the fiercest, most over the top warriors in all of fiction? Did the trope start with Dune, or is there some other piece of literature i’m forgetting?
I wish RUclips had a 75% speed. 50% is too slow...normal speed gives me whiplash. Good stuff though, bud!
Today I started The Shadow Rising !
I LOVE Faile
Mat for MVP.
Clarification, Mat regains the memories from his past lives, so in all of his past lives he was a great military strategist, and he just jumps the gun in his current life and gets all the info at once.
Also, despite what Daniel Greene says, don't feel dumb if you don't immediately pick up on things he says are obvious. I had absolutely no suspicion that any of the Forsaken we're among the peddlers. I did suspect they had ulterior motives, but it's not very obvious that Lanfear is among them. It's also not that obvious that Lord Luc and Slayer/Isam are one and the same. I just figured they were working together. Just putting that out there for those of us who aren't as smart.
14:20 not sure if I’ll ever be able to think of Alanna Mosvani as a “nice, good aes sedai”
Couladin announces first, which was a big curveball
Matt sounds like he did the same thing they’re Odin Did
Stinky dance?!? Lmaoooooo 😂 😂 🤣

Where is audio book 4 ??. Was about 8 or 9 hours in and now this video comes up instead 🙄 no offence. Just want to finish
The shirt.. coke.. no wonder this guy can read the wheel of time so many times😂
This isn't in the same order as the book, I was only half was through when I started to watch this (to check I hadn't missed anything) and ruined the ending!
