    You missed one thing that I would say is pretty important for planning out a build, and that is the cost-benefit math for level allocation in the Stat Talisman section. For instance: In an endgame build with reasonable stat allocation, the +2 variant of the ErdTree Talisman gives *the equivalent of* 6 to 8 levels in Vigor and Endurance (+1 or 2 in VIG, +5 or 6 in END). This makes ErdTree+2 automatically better than any of the +5 to a single stat talismans, because -- given that point allocation is all a numbers game at a normalized level like 150 -- ErdTree+2 is just better, allowing free allocation elsewhere of 6 to 8 points rather than 5 points. And keep in mind unlike the soreseals and scarseals, ErdTree has no downside.

    • @soleil2947
      @soleil2947 2 года назад +19

      Crimson Amber Medallion +2 at 52 Vigor takes you to approx 59.5 Vigor, which even if we round down means it's worth 7 levels and is hence, like EF+2, better than any of the +5-to-a-stat talismans too. Likewise, at 20 Endurance the Great Jar's Arsenal will take you to the weight threshold of approx. 29 Endurance, so if you don't care much about the Robustness or Stamina past level 20, that's 9 free levels without a direct downside. I'd suggest if you're struggling to fit 60 vigor onto a level 150 build, use CAM+2, if you're struggling to hit a poise threshold or wield heavy stuff, wear GJA. EF+2 is a kind of unhappy compromise between those two options, at least in my opinion, due to how generous this game is with Stamina...

    • @benjamink2398
      @benjamink2398 2 года назад +10

      @@soleil2947 60 Vigor is on the higher side for lvl 150 for something like a mage/incant. I was working with 40 for my calcs. But even if we go 50, we see the same result, but with 1 Vigor point equivalent rather than 2. Also, GreatJar does have a downside and that is no additional stamina, whereas END points would usually give that. And regardless of whether you *need* it, more stamina is nice (this is similar to damage taken debuffs. You don't *need* full dmg reduction, but it sure is nice to not increase your chances of dying).

      Vigor must always be 60 for endgame builds. The only exceptions being the ones that level mind. If I got 60 vig and have erdtree+2 and cam+2, I will always hold a direct, numerical advantage over you no matter how much damage you can do or how many spells you cast.
      Under no circumstances should anyone be compromising their vigor just so that a talisman could make up for it. Most builds use erdtree+2 and cam+2 anyway, and if your vig sits at 60 then you won't feel gimped when you sacrifice one or both of them.

      @@DarksydePhilip The turtle stamina talisman gives 17.7% faster stamina regen. That's nuts. Better than any version of the Cloranthy ring from past games, if I recall correctly.
      With an already optimized build, having a couple dozen more damage points is not as useful as having considerably faster stamina regen.
      More stamina = more potential for action, more rolls, more DPS, etc. It's so good for any melee build.
      I guess it depends on the player's build, priorities and play style. I can really tell the difference the moment I unequip it.
      For me it's a must on any melee build, as I believe that more utility is better than more damage, and I already have 2 damage-increasing talismans and 70 Dex, so damage talismans stop being as useful. The stamina regen tho, it's priceless.

    • @AlexanderVRadev
      @AlexanderVRadev 2 года назад +5

      @@DarksydePhilip helps plenty. Any action can be performed if you have at lest 1 stamina. When you hit 0 you have a cool down before stamina starts regenerating. When you go aggressive and hit a bunch of times you will run out of stamina. If you are really aggressive like me and run 2 weapons you will run out in seconds. 2 spears hit 3 times and you are out at 30 stamina. Other smaller weapons are less extreme but still run out fast. So you deal a bunch of damage to a boss use all your stamina, wait cooldown for a second while stamina starts to regen. You will get about 1 to 2 seconds before the boss tries to attack you. No talisman means you get stamina for 1 roll dodge or so and you will hit 0 stamina again. Stamina stops regenerating you can't move follow up attack from boss maims you. With the talisman you actually regen more stamina than you need for 1 dodge roll, you can roll again to get out and regen fully. Or you can instead roll past the first attack and do more damage. Huge difference, but depending on play style.

    Concealing Veil is used in PvP to more stealthily engage other players. Host and co. can use it to somewhat hide their location from invaders closing in on them, potentially giving them an edge in a surprise attack, but more importantly invaders using it can attack at range and then crouch and sneak away or sneak up to the group without being spotted from afar. Giving them time to hide and prep buffs behind geography without being rushed immediately.
    I invaded into a world where the host and 2 phantoms were using it, and so was I. you have to get quite close to become visible. It keeps mages and ranged players from not being able to attack from afar and puts them at a closer distance to engage you.
    I summoned into a world where the host was being harassed by an invader shooting them with the Jar Cannon. They'd shoot, crouch and sneak away and none of us could find him as he'd get out of that area before we could reach him. Took a decent bit to finally catch him.
    It definitely works in PvP. That's where it is actually useful IMO. It's niche but effective.

    1: If you have a squishy but powerful summon like the Rotten Stray you can throw on Shabriri's Woe and draw the aggro of a boss so the Stray can inflict rot for you without getting murdered.
    2: You can use it to actually draw away enemy aggro away from yourself by equipping it before summoning the Mimic Tear Ash and then unequipping it. This way, the boss will focus on the Mimic, allowing you to get free hits in.

    A neat trick about Marica scarseal. Go with arcane build at 45 (or even 40 as split scaling seal/staff only scale up to 45 and bleed drops off after that too.) And play your average melee. When you want you can become a caster god, by equipping Marica for +5 int and +5 faith, then add the +5 faith talisman and +5 int talisman for a total of +10, add another +10 from flask. Get a +6 int crown/+3 faith hat. +1 faith robe. Total +26 int and/or +24 faith depending on your hat. Now equip your average dragon comunion seal or albenouric staff upgraded at near max and beat casters at their own game. Especially effective with the dragon communion seal since it is the best scaling seal and so arcane casters actually do more damage than faith casters. The extra int/faith gives some little damage boost but the main thing is it unlocks higher tier incantations and sorcereries. At as little investment as level 13 int you can get level 29 sorcereries not using flask and 39 with flask. And at 17 faith letting you canst lightning bolt at all times you can get up to level 28 incants just from talismans + robe (28 has some of the best incants IMO) or 30/31 with faith hat. Don;t remember if that one was +2 or +3. And all the way to 40 with flask. All while being arcane build. ;D I am sure there are some insane good combos you can do with beast seal for strength builds, or staff of the guilty for faith builds.... The list goes on.

After that point you start hardly gaining any effective health when the talisman pushes you past 50 vigor the bonus damage you take begins to seriously out pace it. For example at 60 natural vigor but with the talisman you're better off going down to 45 vigor and using those levels to make up the difference from taking off the talisman, you'll end up taking less effective damage per hit with the "same" damage and endurance stats. I've tested the concealing vail talisman for a stealth build I played. From my testing, you need to crouch to gain any effect, and what it does it gives you invisibility to distant enemies(about 6 pre 1.06 light rolls), it does not actually decrease enemies view distance. All enemies have a view distance that determines how far they are away, this is already reduced by stealth.
    The problem is what counts as far away is a bit too far, most enemies won't be able to see from afar away when crouching, and the talisman does not decrease this view distance enough to have a meaningful impact unless you are in an area with enemies with abnormally large view distance like Ordina.
    It's worth pointing out that assassins gambit aow has the same effect as the concealing vail, but the invisibility distance is close to 5 feet making it a much better option.

    with reduced casting cost, you can cast more spells per FP flask, and also get more value out of your flasks. the hp reduction doesnt hurt that much on a caster build that are relatively squishy anyway, this talisman will simply throw you deeper into that architype, so if youre a squishy sorcerer or incantation user anyway, put this talisman on and enjoy the value.

    I'd like to note for the resistance talismans, they're practically useless in PvP due to how weakened they are in PVP. The way armor calculation works is always multiplicative. So, for example, if you have 2 pieces of armor that both reduce your damage taken by 20%, it would be .8 x .8 = 64% of damage taken. It's a 36% reduction instead of the 40% a flat increase would have. So, if you have 4 pieces of armor on, it's getting pared down 5 times. So, let's say you had two items that had 10% physical reduction, some gloves with 8%, armor with a good 20%. That would be .9 x .9 x .92 x .8 = ~60%, adding the talisman (x .95 for PVP) changes it to ~57%. So you're *actually* getting a 3% change in damage. If you have 60 Vigor (1900 hp), then taking 3% less damage is roughly 3% more health (the math is weirder than that, but the decimals of differences it makes are not worth the headache), so you're adding about 60 hp. Crimson medallion gives you 7% (133 health), which is more than double that. Naturally, this is all just PvP, for PvE the resistance talisman's effects are QUITE noticeable.
    An additional note, however, is that the sore/scarseals play into the equation above, so let's run those numbers. Same hypothetical armor set equation we've been working with, add a 1.15 multiplication in there for the soreseal, you get 1.15 x .9 x .9 x.92 x .8 = ~69% (nice), so the increase in damage taken is about 9%. Add the talisman, however, and it comes out to 65%, which is only a 4% difference so you are STILL better off going with the Amber medallion for more health.
    This is all not considering how Defense as a stat plays into this, but Defense further favors having health over resistances because they *kinda* function like a flat damage reduction.
    Edit: The scorpion charms also get multiplied into this

    • @ponytail336
      @ponytail336 2 года назад +1

      Screw it, I'll bring up some of the numbers for other defensive talismans and continue showing off the math for these as the video progresses.
      Ritual Shield Talisman: Despite saying "defense", this actually adds to the armor multiplication stuff we were doing up above, it's a 30% damage reduction, or a .7 multiplier. If you're squishy, confident you can poise through a hit, and believe you can kill your opponent quickly, this is good for you. Very situational.
      Blue-Feathered Branchsword: This item is weird. When you fall below 20% health, it cuts your resistances in half, then adds a flat 50 to them that is not affected by the above equations. Taking the example armor set again, we'd go from 60% damage taken, to only 30% damage taken (100-[40/2 +50]). It effectively halves the damage you take. If, again, we're at 60 vigor, 20% health is only 380. In an ideal scenario, this talisman adds 380 more health to that total, which is ENORMOUS. The problem is that this talisman is not in effect at any point above 20%, so if someone does 400 damage to you while you're at 390 health, this talisman will never protect you. If you're getting whittled down slowly with small hits, this item is great. Worth noting the Royal Remains Armor Set's heal over time takes you up to 18% health, so there's probably some regen tank meme build you can do with that.
      Crucible Scale Talisman: The mathematical component of this isn't on the fextralife wiki, another website said it was 30% reduction, runs through the same diminishing returns as every damage reduction item. 30% is rather significant, almost reducing a backstab to only being about as painful as a charged heavy attack. Pretty niche item but might save your life against opponents who fish for parries.
      Crucible Knot Talisman: Couldn't find the percentage for this at all, given that headshots are basically critical hits for bows, it's probably a 30% reduction.
      Greatshield Talisman: Increases your "Guard Boost" by 10%. I can't find any resources that greatly detail how guard boost works mathematically, but guard boost makes an enormous difference, the higher it is the less stamina you lose. The more stamina you have, the more you can do in combat. Keep in mind this is less effective on shields that already have impressive guard boost.

    • @ponytail336
      @ponytail336 2 года назад +1

      Now to list some numbers for weapon talismans:
      Dagger Talisman: Ups critical damage by 17%. You're already playing with big numbers on crits, so 17% is going to be a lot of damage.
      Curved Sword Talisman: Increases guard counter damage by 20%. Guard counters do about the damage of uncharged heavy attacks, so the damage increase is rather small compared to more consistent talismans. You really only want to use this if you're using guard counters a lot.
      Twinblade Talisman: Increases the final hit of chain attacks by 20%. This is awful, generally speaking. It's borderline useless on the majority of weapons as most weapons have 5 hit chains. Those that don't are generally big, heavy, slow weapons that take just as much time to get through their chain. You have to invest a lot of risk and stamina to get this bonus damage.
      Axe Talisman: Charged attacks do 10% more damage. This pretty much only applies to heavy attacks. There are plenty of opportunities in PvE to land this, albeit it's enemy specific. In PvP, people tend to roll away from attacks instead of rolling aggressively, so most often charged attacks will whiff UNLESS your weapon's heavy attack is good for roll catching.
      Hammer Talisman: Boosts stamina damage to blockers by 20%. Not many enemies or players use shields. If you play PvP, it may be worth keeping available for that rare player who 2-hands a greatshield.
      Spear Talisman: Boosts counterattack damage by ~13%. "Counterattack" here is not referring guard counters as Youwy said, it's referring to hitting an enemy mid-animation. This already confers a damage bonus on it's own, so the additional 13% really adds some sting.
      Lance Talisman: Increases melee attack damage by 15% on horseback. No horse in PvP :c
      Claw Talisman: 15% increase in damage on jump attacks, doesn't apply to bows. Jump attacks are very consistent, very useful talisman.
      Arrow's Sting Talisman: 10% increase in damage to arrows and bolts. Needless to say, this is the most consistent of all weapon talismans by quite a fair margin. If you're using a bow for damage ever, use the talisman.
      Arrow's Reach Talisman: Increases the range of a bow. This is effectively a damage increase if you're using the additional range, as the damage fall-off for firing outside your range won't come up as often, and the farther your opponent, the more arrows you can plink them with before you need to switch to melee.

    • @ponytail336
      @ponytail336 2 года назад +2

      Now for the noteworthy "skill" options.
      Roar Medallion: 15% boost in damage to roars or attacks enhanced by roars. While this boosts the damage of a few ashes of war, the actual power comes when this is combined with War Cry or Barbaric Roar where *all attacks* are enhanced by 15% while under the effect of the roar buff. The roar buffs already offer a weapon buff that grants 10% bonus damage, and buffs stack multiplicatively, so it's 1.1 x 1.15 = 1.265 times your normal damage. Might as well just add 16% damage while you're under a roar buff. Nuts.
      Companion Jar: 20% boost in damage to pots. Naturally, if you wear the pot on your head it's 1.15 x 1.2 = 1.38. Throwing pots are absolutely something you can build around with surprisingly low investment and rather flexible options for any build. Worth noting this doesn't effect status build up of pots at all, just damage.
      Shard of Alexander: 15% boost in damage to skills. Keep in mind, you can usually get ANOTHER talisman or item that will improve the damage or your skills and start making things multiply together. Now that I think about it... I wonder if this further buffs war cry.
      Godfrey's Icon: Increases the damage of charged spells and skills by 15%. Sort of your Axe Talisman but for spells and skills. Highly recommend looking at the wiki to see if your build could benefit from this

    • @ponytail336
      @ponytail336 2 года назад

      Notable Spell Talismans:
      Primal Glintstone Shard: 25% less FP consumption of spells, 15% less health. This is a painful tradeoff. If you have 40 Vigor (more likely than 60 due to your increased stat requirements as a spell caster), you're going from 1450 to ~1240. However, by decreasing FP consumption as much as you do, you effectively increase your FP total by 33%. There's probably some crazy optimization math you can do to squeeze a little more health and FP out of your build using this item, even lacking that, it is a LOT of FP added to your build.
      Moon of Nokstella: 2 more memory slots. You can actually get 10 memory slots through normal progression. After awhile, having so many memory slots makes it harder to play your character because you have to scroll through so many options and god forbid you accidentally click up 1 too many times and now have to scroll 11 more times. How often will you need 12 spells at your disposal? What about 10? Realistically, you only want about 4 to 6 slots filled for spells. This item is bad.
      Radagon's Icon: Spellcasting time decreased. This item grants 30 virtual dexterity for spell casting. Worth nothing Azur's staff grants 40 virtual dexterity. Spellcasting speed caps at 70 dexterity, so you could go 40 actual dexterity and use Radagon's Icon to max it out, or only level it to meet weapon requirements and use Azur's staff. Or you could just have slower spells.

    Worth noting: Sacrificial twig will NOT work if you die to death blight. It will remain equipped and your runes will be left where you dropped them. "It's not a bug it's a feature", as programmers say it. In Dark Souls, this status effect existed too and the item as well, although it was a ring there, and there was also a rare version of the ring that explicitly said that it saved your currency on "dying to death" as well.
    Funny how the game tells you the obvious when you die with a twig equipped (a caption will appear explaining that the twig did exactly the thing you equipped it for), but it tells you absolutely nothing when you "die to death" (no caption). Therefore I almost reported it as a bug :D Some item descriptions could use some improvement. Not just with the twig...

    I was curious about the Cerulean Seed Talisman which was not mentioned. Planning a Mage/Sorcerer build and was worried that the Flask of Cerulean Tears wouldn't fully replenish my FP at end game. Here is my research on that if anyone else is curious. The Cerulean Seed Talisman boosts FP restoration from Flask of Cerulean Tears by 20%.
    . . .
    Sacred tear to FP replenished
    0 : 80
    1 : 95
    2 : 110
    3 : 125; Perfect for those with 20 in mind (will fully replenish up too 21 mind), many builds are close to 20 since it's the first soft cap for Mind
    4 : 140
    5 : 150
    6 : 160
    7 : 170; Perfect for those with 30 in mind; this will fully replenish. Enthusiasts of higher FP costing sorceries such as Ranni's Dark Moon have/hit this mark.
    8 : 180
    9 : 190
    10: 200; 35 mind will be fully replenished by this. For a pure practitioner who is slinging spells all around and 200 FP is a lot to sling with. So Cerulean Seed Talisman is only useful past 40+ mind
    11: 210
    12: 220
    Cerulean Seed Talisman if gotten early enough may be good in early game, but duelist soft caps at end game makes it completely useless. A Talisman for 40+ mind builds which at that range we are talking about folks who are level 200+.

    The talisman that reduces spell cost and health can actually be just BIS in two cases, both coming from my actual experience, so I can argue. Both for a pure caster of course.
    1. At some level, equipping it and redistributing points from mind into vigor give a net positive.
    2. NG+ high level minmaxing has a cap on how much mana flask actually restores, so it's best to stop mind at this exact value, equip this talisman and pump vigor.

    On the talisman buffing perfumes, it actually has its use: the spark aromatic scales very well with dex and deals really high damage, it can easily hit for 1k hp depending on the enemy fire defenses. For pve, due to the maximum limit of 10 perfumes you can craft, it may not be the best, but in pvp it's plenty and it's an aoe attack that comes quickly enough.

    Imo Marika + Radagon Scar / Soreseals and the 4 Elemental Boost Talismans are absolute trash in Endgame , when shit starts to actually hit hard , you dont want to stack up on dmg negation reduction penalty talismans , or you will end up as glass regardless of your Vigor and Armor. Its cool on low levels when you dont meet the requirement for certain weapons or spells yet and stuff dosnt hit that hard and Elemental Boosters are nice in midgame too to kill Bosses faster ... but yeah drop those trash items as soon as you reach the Capitol City or level 100+ stuff , or shit will just oneshot you all the time , unless you are ofc a dodge god , than do whatever.
    Funny thing .. if you stack more of them together you can reach negative defensive values , which means you buff Enemy attacks against you , by that point it would be even more benefitial to fight naked.

    Axe Talisman vs Godfrey Icon: can anyone clarify the terminology used by From, specifically charge vs charged.
    The way I read Axe Talisman is the damage buff only applies to actions involving character movements from specific ashes of war and weapon movesets i.e. you charge toward a target.
    Godfrey applies to anything you fully charge (hence charged) be it a spell, attack or ash of war.
    At my age and gaming history I'm getting rather tired of obfuscation around stats and values so prevalent these days.

      Yeah, I think I can clear it up. The Axe Talisman enhances charged heavy attacks from your weapon i.e. holding R2. The Godfrey Icon enhances spells, incantations, and ashes of war that can be charged for a better version, like Comet, Flame Sling, or Carian Grandeur.
