Really like the new Cure album Brian. I honestly have not been moved by anything since Head on the Door. But this one is really good. Robert sounds excellent live and in the studio. I agree with you on the price of new records nowadays. Twenty dollars is a steal. I like every Sparks album. There hasn't been one that let me down. Did you see the video for "Crying in Her Latte"? It was great. Russell and Ron are always two steps ahead as songwriters. You got a great deal on the album. Way to go B~ Rob/Boston
Hi Rob, I just watched "The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte." That's a fun video! So far, I have only seen positive reviews of the Cure record, so that must mean something. It seems to have connected with many people. I wonder why it took 16 years for them to put out a new record?
Totally agree, a record for $20 is a steal. I may be the only one who has not bought the Cure album, still undecided if I will really listen to it a lot or will it get shelved. A lot of new music this week Brian. I don’t even know Sparks had a new album but that original price, someone was out of their mind.
$75 for a record. Welcome to Canada 🙂 The thing that is really bizarre is that some small labels here issue records that are under $25, so high prices can't really relate to pressing costs. Maybe it is just greed 😡
Good way to describe The Cure.. Dirgy and dark, or well crafted pop ! I have Tortoise Cd's from the 90's, the debut and "Millions Now Living Will Die" Nice to see you review the new Sparks ! I would pay 75.00 for a better copy of the VU debut ( 2nd or 3rd pressing would be fine ).. worth way more than 75 ! Haha.🤗 Too cool ! I have that Dr. Feelgood comp as well..
it would have to be a very special record for me to play $75, but VU might be one of. them. I only have a mid-80s Canadian pressing of that one. I'm still enjoying the new Cure record 👍
Those are some impressive products you got for an excellent price! Whether I would enjoy the music or not doesn’t matter. I like to see all the artwork and printed material and hear the sounds of the paper and cardboard. Great finds!
All interesting viny finds I'm going to check some of them out in the digital world. The Jeff Tweedy album looks like a lot of thought and planning went into designing the cover and the book stitched inside. Happy listening! Hope all is well. Looking forward to the next vinyl finds video! Best, Steve
Wow, nice job finding that Tortoise record, one of my favorite "post-rock" bands. I love them because they didn't get so stuck in the post rock mold like so many of those bands that helped kick off the post rock movement. They mess around with sounds like no one else, and they are so meticulous in what they do. Nice Jeff Tweedy record too. Even though I lean more towards Ryan Adams in the Adams vs Tweedy war, but I still respect and enjoy Tweedy's music. $89 for an album by The Church *gasp*. It's crazy and that explains why I haven't been able to pick up anything by The Church, who's music I love, but can't afford.
Hi Mike, Good points on Tortoise. I am inclined to agree with you! I didn't even know that there is an Adams vs Tweedy war. What have I been missing? I better look that up. . .
@EmbryonicRobot You may have already featured the Tortoise and Bonnie Prince Billy collaboration album The Brave and The Bold, I don't remember for sure, but what do you think about that one?
@EmbryonicRobot Well it is definitely interesting. A bit strange and a lot of people don't care for it much. I've only heard it a couple of times so I need to give it more of a chance but it's a strange one.
I appreciate your thoughts on the new release from The Cure. I really like it, and it’s great to see so many people raving about it-though I feel like I might be missing something. Maybe I just need to give it a few more listens. I’m excited to hear they might release more uptempo tracks. Thanks for showcasing your amazing records!
I'm also looking forward to some more upbeat tracks from the Cure. I like their dark Moody stuff, but sometimes we need something more uplifting from time to time 🙂
Good morning Brian, another great presentation and thank you for that. Quite the story & hunt for the new album from The Cure, happy you got that one and the stone/marble looks amazing. I love The Cure, brings me back to my “Alternative Trip” when was all in black, cockroach killing shoes and wild spiked hair… But can you believe I have no albums from them… Was never able to find original copies… Might have to stop hoping and just get 180 grammer reissues to make myself happy… Thanks again 🖤
I'm glad that you were able to pick up the new Cure album. I did follow Uncle Tupelo and bought several Wilco albums but I have not purchased any Jeff Tweedy releases. I do have that Sparks album with Russell looking up. Good thing you got it for less than $75. Happy listening.
I'm looking forward to giving the Dr. Feelgood a proper listen. I met a man on a beach St. Lucia in 1996 who claimed that he was Dr. Feelgood. He said he had what I needed. I believed him, but didn't buy anything 🙂
I held off, until yesterday....I have the vinyl of The Cure arriving tomorrow. The 2CD/1Blu-ray came today (with a CD of instrumental versions). That Dr. Feelgood collection will be a blast.
Now I know that I need to get that new Cure record, I've heard only good things. I was lucky enough to grab some original Euro pressings of a couple Cure albums in Ireland recently. That Tweedy album looks really great, too. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Brian. If record stores my way marked their records down to $20 I would have a few more new releases and releases in my collection. Great finds. Hope you enjoy the Dr. Feelgood. Cheers.
Pleased to see The Cure album is finally available in Canada. You got a real bargain with the Sparks album. I love a bit of pub rock and Dr Feelgood are amongst the best. Nice pickups. Cheers Mike 👍
The poster was really nice on heavyweight stock. I think the Thrill Jockey label is great. I like a lot of the artists they work with. The Tortoise jacket is gorgeous. It seems like the labels are putting more effort into the packaging.
The Cure may be back in their dirge/down tempo phase, but Brian is happy as a clam with snagging a copy! I agree: $20 for a new LP is doable. That Sparks documentary was good, and their stuff goes fast. Dr. Feelgood-nice! Happy listening! 😎🎶
Congratulations on getting the Cure record. I wonder why the Tweedy album is so tall? Weird...Wow, your record store is selling some records at greatly discounted prices! Fantastic! Maybe this is a sign that prices have peaked and maybe they'll come down a bit. I'm not counting on that. Thanks for showing the records!
Glad you scored Cure vinyl! My 2LP version doesn’t ship for another week or so (I have the download- great album) The Tweedy and Sparks albums look really interesting and a bargain at that price-point for sure! 😎 Cheers-R
Some interesting ones there, Brian. Gee, I must be one of the very few in the VC who still haven't grabbed the Cure's latest yet - I will eventually get it. Got to laugh over the tern 'Bio Vinyl' 😂I reckon the Sparks will be on my list as well. Gee, you've gone anti-Ben in the shirt design department......very minimalist!!!😁True, there are some silly prices being asked for new vinyl in some shops🤪Cheers from Oz. John D.
Hi John D, I reckon that since I can never compete with the King of Shirts, why try? I'll just do the opposite. I do wonder if Bio Vinyl is biodegradable or compostable. I hope not! But, if not, it might be misnamed 🙂
Great deals, Brian. I think I would like that new Cure record from what I've heard. Nice to know they plan to release more as I was wondering if this was going to be their swan song. This video made me curious: which albums make you dance about the house? Also, I would like to see some footage of that!
Hi Mark, The answer to which records I dance around the house to is a closely guarded secret. If I do ever make a video, I'd also have to create a Patreon account, or maybe an Onlyfans account 👍😳🙃
Excellent perseverance on the Cure pick up. Disintegration 2 is what I have heard about songs of the next world. If that is the case it would be tied for number one on my current Cure records rankings. Jeff Tweedy would definitely be a great one to have but I still need my first Uncle Tupelo / Wilco album. Your pickups are always outstanding , Sparks is another Band I have always admired and never pulled the trigger on. Dr Feelgood doesn’t interest me unless it’s Motley Crue (kidding- will check out this Essex band.
Hi Shawn, Disintegration 2 is an interesting statement. I will have to have a few more listens to see if I agree. I Googled Dr Feelgood and most of the results were Motely Crue! I haven't even heard that entire Crue record, believe it or not 🙂
Wow, those original prices are giving me nosebleeds!!! Anyway, that Cure one is on my list of upcoming complimentary copies; already received the 30th anniv of "Wish" which I might feature on a future video :)
glad ya finally got the cure album. jesus $75 for an album is bonkers. i think most i paid for vinyl was $50 last summer for Replacements Inconcerated which is 3 LP. glad you got it marked way down.
The Jeff Tweedy sleeve looks stunning. You got a brilliant deal on that one! I've not heard this album, but I have been following most of his career right from Uncle Tupelo's landmark release 'No Depression'. 75 Canadian dollars for the Sparks LP! I do like Sparks (although I found the track 'The Girl Is Crying Into Her Latte' irritating), but that is an eye-watering price. Again though you got a brilliant deal! For me, you left the best until last. I have an original copy of Dr. Feelgood's 'Singles: The U.A. Years'. Side One with Wilko Johnson smashes it, but the later line-ups have their moments too. I don't know if you know that Will Birch was the drummer in the Kursaal Flyers and the Records. He was a great pop songwriter, and in later years a music journalist.
I agree, the Jeff Tweedy album has very nice packaging and I quite like the music. I'm still trying to figure out who would pay $75 (even Canadian dollars) for a single record. That is insane! I'm enjoying the Dr. Feelgood. I have to confess that the Kursaal Flyers are new to me. Another rabbit hole, perhpas?
You've probably nailed why I'm not a Cure fan though I have the hits and I do like Disintegration when in the right mood. I may stream it though. I just walk past the records in HMV now. I can't remember when I last saw a new record for £20. Love Sparks, I saw them live in Manchester couple years ago. Dr Feelgood are designated 'pub-rock' in the UK!

And yet, I see young adults buying records. At least they have their priorities straight.
Interesting pick-ups Brian. Of course not familiar with them but I'm curious how the Cure recycled vinyl is sonically. Many people are not thrilled with the process. Hopefully 🤞 they've solved the issues.
Hi Greg, I'd say that the Cure sounds really good, but I can only compare it to streaming. It seems like we are heading to biovinyl whether we like it or not 🙂
$75??? No wonder it sat there. Strange about The Cure shortage in Canada. I'm one of the few who still hasn't heard it. After such a long break, I guess I'm afraid I will be disappointed. Cheers Brian!
How odd that the Cure album is still so elusive round your parts, but saying that of course, I still don’t have a copy of the new Pixies album. Whilst waiting for the coloured indie version, the regular black vinyl sold out and none of our stores got the CD’s either and they don’t understand what the deal is. Apart from that, hope you enjoy it and the rest. I can only feign a fleeting knowledge of the Sparks from the movie and one record, the rest was unknown to me. Hope you are well, take care and cheers from Morten.
It truly is perplexing that The Cure album was slow to arrive. I bet I will see them everywhere now that I have a copy, and for less money too. C'est la vie. Come to think, I am not sure if I have even seen the new Pixies record. Maybe it sold out immediately. . .
I thin the biodisc sounds fine, but I only have the streaming version to compare it to. It got some negative comments on DIscogs, but I think it is quiet and flat! I guess we will have to wait and see how long-lasting these records are.
No logo to the maximum. Have you enlisted in the army? The Embryonic Fall 2024 Fashion Collection available now at a store near you…I’m glad you got that Cure album. I like the artwork. You need to pin that poster up in the living room just to get Cecile’s reaction. “Of course then I heard this”…”It’s like a slow moving epic. It will take a few more listens to figure that out.”…”Over the years I heard what was was happening to The Cure”…”It’s not like you can dance around the house to it”.. You probably had it. I had to wait l”….”This band has a bit of jazz”…”You can’t lose, according to me”…😊”Is that the kind of mug you serve latte in?”
I'm too old for the army! I could try, but I suspect I will be rejected. I may have to plaster the entire bedroom in posters 😳 Those are probably the best quotes!
I've never really dabbled in Sparks for one reason or another. The only Cure I have is the remixes 1991? they appeal sure just not quite sure where to start. Did you say $80 for the church seance? That's mad. My favourite band but even I'd draw the line at that.
Hi Martin, Sparks are another of those bands where they just have so much material, I find it hard to keep up. The Cure's Mixed Up is fabulous. The band's sound changed over time, so a good overview is probably Standing on a Beach (or the CD version Staring at the Sea). It's a tough call, though, on where to start. I think now I prefer their earlier material, but it is all solid. Believe it or not, the Church's Seance just keeps going up and up on Amazon. It's now listed for $93.94! (Canadian). I will not be paying that 😡
@EmbryonicRobot staring at the sea would do me or I think Faith period I liked from a mate years ago giving me a homemade tape comp. I prefer goth to pop definitely not Friday I'm in love. Seance I have an 80s copy. When I first got into the church (1991 album and tour) I had the previous decade of material to catch up on. Sparks have done alot yes. Daunting. Hope you are doing ok and not too freaked out by the US elections.
@@Thevinylscavenger I'd say the results of the US election were a bit surprising, but not unexpected. Maybe? I followed the election too closely, and now I need a rest 🙂I am concerned about our upcoming election in 2025. It hits closer to home!
How can Sparks still have dark hair? They're older than me and mine's been gray for ages. I have a CD of that Tortoise album from '94. I haven't played it in years.

79!??!?!?!? holy no thanks!
That's what I said. That's almost as much as a so-called audiophile pressing!
Dr Feelgood are RnB proper RnB and pub rockers.
OK. Thanks! That seems right to me after a good listen 🙂
How can Sparks still have dark hair? They're older than me and mine's been gray for ages.
I have a CD of that Tortoise album from '94. I haven't played it in years.
Ha ha. Good point on Sparks. Maybe hair dye? Mine went grey ages ago, too. It seems really unfair 😔
BioVinyl sounds like a sales gimmick aimed at the woke crowd.
You might be right about that. I hope it is durable.
