- The Tonight Show sent comedian Jim Norton along with a film crew to tape exhibitors on the show floor of INPEX® 2010 on Wednesday and Thursday, June 16 and 17. I was one of the exhibitors filmed for my display to The Tonight Show's Jim Norton!
“INPEX® International Jury Award” in the Category of Specialized Technology for the Display of the Non-Ferrous (Master Magnet) Electromagnet.
The Gold Magnet is actually two magnets in one.
The (electromagnet) Master Magnet is a coil with a current running through it.
Electrons are like tiny magnets and when they move (as in a current) they create a magnetic field.
The coil is made up of 600 turns of # 14 cotton or enamel covered wire wrapped around a (core) base made of iron. The wire is connected to the electricity and when current flows in the wire, the iron core becomes a very strong magnet.
The second magnet is the (4) copper washers. The magnetic field from the iron in the base causes electricity to flow around through the washers. The electricity in the washers is called an eddy current. The eddy current causes the washers to become a magnet. But, if the washers are split they won’t become a magnet because the electricity can’t get all the way around them.
The two electromagnets are arranged so that their north poles point at each other. Two north poles repel each other, so the base (iron core) and the washers push each other away. If the washers were not anchored in place, they would spring out of their mounting as soon as the current was turned on.

Dont know why anyone would argue, been known for some time. Only works with AC, not DC. Master induces currents in the non ferrous metal. Those currents attract to the master. Copper has to be "tuned" to to some degree to the desired target metal as it adds reluctance, or some shit like that.
Is it practical for river gold hunting for small gold particles? Is there portable version of your machine?
To me it seems like magnetic vacuum... so for gold dust I don't think so... ? Shouldn't there be a design solution to that....

That's simply eddy currents man. I'm pretty sure. It's not a real gold magnet. They do exist, possibly.
So is the electromagnet reacting with pure 24K gold or is it a lesser-carat gold alloy and the field is reacting to the copper in it?

Interesting but why you did not toke the copper of the stick so we can se the difference and can be good used a 24k gold just to see if work o not

Magnetic induction is neither new nor mysterious.
Don't mean a thing, unless you got that static cling. Saran wrap being rolled will pick a person off the ground. We all know humans are not magnetic.like rabbit fur and glass.
