I got this same saw from my grandpa in about the same condition. Runs great and will flat out eat wood! I picked up a 32" roller nose bar on Ebay and use this saw for stabbing logs in a Grandburg Chainsaw mill. Great vid. Thanks for the information.

Working with coils on Homelites I found out the coil wasn't the issue but have to make sure the lamination match the flywheel so if swapping coils make sure you switch the lamination into your new coil. For example I had a blue coil I took lamination from it put it in a point coil (was tight cause square) and installed a module ran great the lamination and your flywheel have to match for timing sometime try interchanging flywheel see if can increase your timing a bit :)

Got out of the USMC in the fall of '82 and spent that winter cutting firewood for a living with my late fathers Farmsaw. We beat that poor thing half to death! Back then "2 stroke oil" could be anything from the local Pioneer/Mccullouch/Homelite dealer, from the local hardware or from the ancient paper can of straight 30wt you found in your grandfathers garage. Filing was more of a form of magic than anything scientific for us. We didn't know squat in other words. But that saw held up to all sorts of abuse. When it finally died I took it to the Pioneer dealer and he just shook his head in disgust! I think I ended up with a Mac 7-10 after that. I'd love to find another Farmsaw though.

That is all my grandfather and uncle use to run when I was a kid. We got new chainsaws the one year and one was the Pioneer Farm Saw II. Talk about a saw that would cut with a 20"bar, it was like a hot knife through butter. We had a tree that a double cut 20" bar would not cut and got a 32" bar for the saw and the bar did not have a roller nose sprocket on the bar either. Even with out the roller nose that saw run that bar like it was not even there either. I miss that saw and would eventually find one again. I miss the old true quality saws that were built back in the day like Homelite, Pioneer and McCulloch. them were the days that's for sure!!!!

Hey Leon, my grandfather just did this coil trick on an Echo 650 EVL. Took the lamination out and put it on a different plastic coil from who knows what, (Weedwacker?) and the saw runs good now!

I wonder if that saw has a rubber piece in between the gas and oil tanks like the poulan pro versions had. This was known for rotting out. I guess they put them rubber windows in because if they converted um over to cut off saws then they would remove this window for more gas capacity. I had a poulan pro 655 come in that I had to fix, it had this exact problem.

Yeah my grandpa has a poulan pro 655 is basically a p62 the thing is a beast but that window had rotted out so someone put an aluminum piece in its place and he welded it in. I re sealed this piece in using seal all and he’s cut just with it for almost a year and a half now and it’s still going strong. The poor thing sat for 5 years cuz he bar oil was dropping right into the gas I’d like to see if I could tig weld a piece of aluminum into the window but that seal all is holding up awesome

Damn spell check I meant to say someone jb welded the window shut not welded it in..
