My old landlord Evan Hartman, Isiah Zager his wife and another fella were the pioneers of south street. They made it what it is today. Urban Gorilla, eyes galley, zipperhead…. They took a shady dark south street and brought it light and life…..
From West Philly to South Philly ro a meat market down South Philly for saugesages and meat was like traveling to another city on Septa back in the day..I was young but I remember my mom travel everytime to make Spaghetti with sausage..That meat market was like the one in the movie Transformers busy..It was longest ride ever but it was worth it..Traveling over North when she worked in that area was something else too but she did it This city has changed so much
Bear in mind this is a retrospective. Today, the area is largely gentrified, and full of hip new shops and restaurants (not to mention pricey new homes), largely because of its close proximity to Rittenhouse and Fitler Square. That said; the video has Interesting memories and great footage from the past.
Thank you for documenting this neighborhood and its vibrant people.

The new south street sucks. South Street hasn’t been good since 2000
I saw KING KING VS GODZILLA at the Royal Theater in the 1960s
In the year 2022 , the south street area is a GHETTO !! It never improved .
it's really sad right now. there are virtually no stores. besides like obvious storefronts that sell cheaply made new garbage
