Problems with Drugs and Crime in Kensington Ave, Philadelphia
In Philadelphia as a whole, violent crime and drug abuse are major issues. The city has a higher rate of violent crime than the national average and other similarly sized metropolitan areas. The drug overdose rate in Philadelphia is also concerning. Between 2013 and 2015, the number of drug overdose deaths in the city increased by 50%, with more than twice as many deaths from overdoses as homicides. 2 Kensington's high crime rate and drug abuse contribute significantly to Philadelphia's problems.
Because of the high number of drugs in the neighborhood, Kensington has the third-highest drug crime rate by neighborhood in Philadelphia, at 3.57. The opioid epidemic has played a significant role in this problem, as it has in much of the rest of the country. Opioid abuse has skyrocketed in the United States over the last two decades, and Philadelphia is no exception. In addition to having a high rate of drug overdose deaths, 80% of Philadelphia's overdose deaths involved opioids, and Kensington is a significant contributor to this figure. This Philadelphia neighborhood is said to have the largest open-air heroin market on the East Coast, with many neighbors migrating to the area for heroin and other opioids. With such a high concentration of drugs in Kensington, many state and local officials have focused on the neighborhood in an attempt to address Philadelphia's problem.

I'm German. I lived in Brazil for many years and only know these incredible conditions from the slums of São Paulo,
which I saw with my own eyes. Why do US politicians allow such conditions ? The shop owners are almost ruined.
Many shops closed, shutters down. Who else goes shopping on these streets ? A single catastrophe !
They don't allow it , it's their plan. They hate America.
I wonder why the city does not even care to clean the streets. This is a neglected neighborhood that looks even sadder when it is so poluted.

The hopelessness of being out on a limb without a home or a job or family or any direction. Take yourself away from your pleasant and secure surroundings and go to a big city with a couple of bags and little money and see how you laugh it off.

Я кстати тоже об этом подумал. Если судить по увиденному со стороны - люди эмоционально вполне неплохие, минимум агрессии, заботятся друг о друге, дружелюбны. Я смотрел интервью с некоторыми - потерявшиеся наивные мечтатели, такие позитивные алкашики. Но вытащить их оттуда точно не просто, это надо про себя забыть совсем :(

American system is one of the most messed up on this planet. It's all about the dollar. If you don't have it you are being treated worse than rubbish... Realising how bad it is makes people go this drug and alcohol route. I always was thinking that it would be great to live in America. Visited it and in less than 2 weeks I have changed my mind. Would never like to live in such a horrible system that requires you to have multiple jobs just to pay for "junk food" and bills.

Other countries don't want the poor or influx of illegals comming into their country. Countries like Malaysia or Thailand they check how much money you have in your bank account and you have to prove you can support yourself indefinitely.
America let's so many illegals into this country because they use them as modern slaves. Look in all the kitchen restaurants and factory jobs they're all mostly illegals.
While I agree that our government needs to do more to help its own people, our government has been helping other countries for a long time and many have turned the issue of what you call illegals into a very hateful and racist chant. Since trump took office back in 2016 I have seen people on a hateful attack against non-white citizens telling them to go back to their country. I went to set up at a flea market where a Chinese couple has set up for 20 years and are citizens of this country and some idiot started cursing them out and telling them to go back to their country, my youngest sister is 1/2 Native American and was told to go back to her country and I could go on with incidents I have witnessed myself and I am white with red hair, blue eyes and freckles and other white people think I feel the same way as them and are very open and honest about their racism around me assuming because I am white I will agree with them. Where I live we have many people from Russia that can barely speak English, not 1 white person has ever told them to go back to their country and most of them are not citizens , but people are really quick to say it to someone speaking Spanish. By the way just so you realize Obama deported more people out of this country than trump did and he did it all without making nasty comments about them being drug dealers and rapist.
i had a Beautiful long haired curly redhaired lady that liked me and i moved her away from all that to get her away in a nice home in a rural town lots of animals ect which she loved and named but it lasted 3 years she got bored and ran back.i still miss her.addiction is tough for sure i learned its heartbreaking

Another incredibly sad, confounding phenomenon here in UK social work is assuming that homeless, addicted and impaired folk would be as thrilled as you and I would to be given a clean and lovely little studio apartment-- even if it's entirely free of cost. So many of them HATE it. It's far too quiet for them, far too isolated when they're used to the hustle and bustle of the city streets and constant pointless, superficial human contact that they have conditioned themselves to need. So these clean, quiet, private apartments where they can watch TV, read a magazine, nap on the sofa, make a sandwich etc are eventually trashed and/or escaped from. They pack their bags one day and just leave. The 'normal' person has such difficulty understanding how their thinking works and it's tragic. You really can't help these people without them doing the mental and emotional heavy lifting at least to a 50-50 percentage. This 'I will be their saviour' mindset is so often doomed to fail. I acknowledge that the unvarnished truth and honest personal testimonial is unacceptable to publicly blurt out. But those involved know full well how low the success rate for genuine rehabilitation is. Incredibly frustrating and profoundly upsetting.

I'm from Russia. For us, the hardest and worst times were the 90s: prostitution, drug addiction, drunkenness. BUT I don’t even remember such horror. That the whole street is full of drug addicts. Actually a nightmare

My son had severe schizophrenia (genetic) he went through addiction, hep C, eventually after a long battle he was clean but the side effects of the meds were devastating for a young man. I fought for him and never facilitated him. The battle was exhausting, after 12 years of effort he took his own life. R.I.P. These people can not win the fight on their own

This is one of the saddest videos I've ever seen. I grew up in LA and homelessness, crime, alcoholism, drug addiction was always a major problem but now it's at it's worst in all of America. I wish this wasn't real. It's naive to think, but I hope that the world will finally do something to stop the spread of drugs, alcohol, tobacco. Nothing good ever comes out of it. All it does is harm. Thank you for sharing the video. All the best to the victims and loved ones of the victims of the poison that is addictive substances.
Entiendo lo que dices y comparto el sentimiento de compasión por estas personas, pero creo que no es comparable el alcohol y las drogas con el tabaco, a pesar de ser las tres sustancias adictivas. El tabaco no cambia el comportamiento de la gente, ni alienta a delinquir para consumirlo, tampoco genera violencia ni prostitucion, el deterioro físico el infinitamente más lento, y añadiría más cosas, como suicidios, pérdida de trabajo, etc. Así que personalmente no entiendo como no se invierte más por los gobiernos más en estas drogas y si en el tabaco. and I disagree with the narrator about the reason he feels law enforcement won't arrest the homeless (I've had homelessness in my own family and circle of friends). I feel the real reason police and politicians don't arrest the homeless or street drug dealers and drug users is because they're hoping their habits and lifestyle will simply kill them all.
I hope all the people struggling with alcohol or any other addiction to break the habit for good. I personally grew up to an alcoholic parents and cocaine flooded neighborhood. I endured many struggles growing up. I was addicted to alcohol during my adulthood years and barely survived cocaine, and I hit rock bottom in all of life aspects financially, physically, relationship, career etc. I'm very lucky that I have met my Muslim neighbor in Brooklyn who saw me breaking down one day and was by my side and never left me as if I'm his brother. I'm very thankful that I decided to go to the Mosque and converted to Islam. I've got my life purpose back now I'm married and I have a beautiful daughter and I'm financially stable and more than ever mentally and spiritually stable. It's the five prayers. It's Allah. Never trust the media and what has been said about Islam. Politics is a dirty business and all they cared about is money. The whole system is set up over the dollar without any regard to your suffering or addictions. Peace and love!! Never give Up.

@@naturallaw1733 Not really true though, how do you explain all those that hit rock bottom and chose to get clean? They may not have the chance to choose a specific way on a financial level, but they definitely choose. There are hospitals that will help with detox, there are AA, NA meetings all over every town and people there willing to help, they could just as easily choose to seek that help as well as seek out that drug.

I m now 45 years old men from Finland and use drug's about 25 year last 11year everyday and I was prison this year 8 months and now I m metadon medicine... I looking now school place to Forrest Traktor drive.. January starting school... Rehab not helping me and not help other addict... My health has very bad... But I try one time again... Bye...
Homelessness will never be fixed. Especially when you have documentaries like this claiming that there are multiple reasons for it when in fact 95% of the homeless people chose to be homeless because of their addiction to drugs and alcohol.
in Soviet Union homelessness was basically eradicated. It remained only as a some wierd sort of social protest maybe, but every human being was guaranteed to have a shelter. A house, flat or a room.
A harder struggle and support should be given on this issue, on behalf of the governments, the young and old child should be freed from this problem.
