Had this issue on my 17" MBP '09 that died over two years ago and couldn't bring myself to throw it away! Taken it to two 'Official Apple Repair' shops and both said it was completely scrap/No idea what was wrong, and its obsolete so "Throw it in the bin" ... Stumbled across your video late one evening ... Ordered a replacement capacitor for less than £1 ... Couple of hours of taking apart and a tad of solder later ... it fired right up!!! PERFECT :D Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge! :D I do wonder how many perfectly good MBP's have been thrown away because of this fault!

Apple love making their customers think its time to throw away their devices!! Its shocking and disgusting how dishonest they are and release software and OS that will not work on old machines and change ports etc

Just carried on this repair on my MBP 2009 17" (which I'm typing on now). For a while it was having trouble waking up from sleep, or randomly blacking out, then eventually wouldn't start up at all. I found this capacitor 'Cap Tantalum Polymer T55 330uF 2.5V 3528' on RS, stock number 8603834 if you want to try it. It is a perfect fit sizewise which helps. Hopefully it will last, it's been a month so far and all good, so many thanks for the tip!

I have that MacBook Pro 17" that dont fire up or taking charge, there is voltage on some caps on the logic board, and the button to check battery is blinking green on the first dot.
Can it be the same problem on mine as it is on the one in this video?
Worth saying is that i dont have a original charger, so i made a contact my self (19v, 90w charger) to fit to point 4 and 5 on the mac charging port ( it was with that charger i measured voltage on the logic board ). The original charger has a pin in the center that communicate with the computer to know what charger you use.
So, do i need a original charger with all the pins to even start or charge it?
The charger i have now indicating "green" when plugged in to the Mac, as it does when no device is charging.

Well I replaced the capacitor on my 2017 2009 MBP, I wasn’t able to fit it properly so I did a big ball of solder on each side it ended up working, the MacBook successfully turned on, after a little while I was downloading some apps on it, and I accidentally left it on my bed for a couple of minutes without macs fan control on, I picked up the laptop and turn the fans full blast to avoid any overheating, but even though the machine didn’t reach over 85 degrees C which is normal temp, all of a sudden it shuts down, I’m still unable to turn it on even after replacing the capacitor with another one.

    GREAT VIDEO!
I also have a very dead mid-2009 A1297 MB Pro that seems like replacing the C7771 capacitor will fix, but my problem may also be due to a defective Magsafe adapter that was fairly recently purchased. It worked fine initially, but now the amber/green charging light does not come on at all when hot and plugged into the MB dock and unfortunately, I don't have a multi-meter to check for power. I think I can determine how complicated this repair will be if you can answer the following question... Would a bad C7771 capacitor also affect whether or not the amber/green charging light becomes illuminated on the Magsafe plug?

I have one logic board with this capacitor C7771. Since I don’t have one tantalum I replace it temporary (only to test if that fix works for me) with an electrolytic capacitor (330mf 16V). With the multimeter probe I have the following measurements .330V and 0V (shifting every 2 sec). Is this happening because of the electrolytic capacity, or is this another problem?
