    With this excellent repair you showed why I admire you: young Graham (11:5512:55) looked great when he detected that fault without the help of a thermal camera (12:16 exact). Of course I read your description but it does not detract from it by expressing my sincere congratulations. A respectful greeting from Mexico.

    Just discovering this channel - I watched two vids and you have a very different way to get at things. I saw you were using alcohol - it is a rudimentary way maybe but not everyone can afford a FLIR and this works too. I was very surprised you located the short in a cap. I will watch a couple more, never too old to learn. I just opened a MBP 2012 for the first time (Madonna / like a virgin playing in the background) - the dust bunnies inside but everything still like new inside, not a drop of liquid damage. DVD was not working, took it out, opened it up and found something in there... why would someone put a thin mint in there.... anyways I am not ready for logic board repairs, leave that to the real magicians like you.

    Is it okay to leave a cap off if it's not marked critical in the schematics. I'm guessing the ones on v-core need to be replaced, because the cpu is very important and sensitive. I fixed a few logic boards by removing fuse and plugging battery in, then the cap blows up. Probably a stupid way to do it! Do you think using battery is too risky? I could blow cpu, right? I want to get power supply and do it your way from now on, so I don't blow something important.

    • @Adamant_IT
      @Adamant_IT  4 года назад +1

      A little risky, but at the end of the day, if there's a short circuit then that's where all the power will go to. A bench PSU just gives you more control.
      As for leaving the cap off, it's hard to tell. Bypass caps do two jobs, one is to smooth out the power and reduce noise, the other is to provide an energy reserve to nearby chips so they can switch on faster.
      A big cap like this one will be the latter, and you might find that the device crashes under certain loads without it. That being said, as there's two of them there, you might get away with it.

    Great video man, just a quick question: how to define the voltage(1 or 5 or less or mpre) while injecting because in one of ur videos u used 5v and now u used 1v? Thanks in advance.

    • @instrukcion14
      @instrukcion14 3 года назад +1

      basically, it doesn't matter. Just you have to be sure about the voltage level of the powerline. With 1V you cant damage basically nothing. CPU operates at 0.8V, so it means a bit of stress but can stay alive after 1V. But after 5V injection, it is gone. And about the current. You want to find a short, not to damage the trace. Trace can bear some current depends on the width. But you can also burn a trace if the current will be so high. Thats the reason why he starts with 1A and slowly uprasing. What you are interested in is power consumption of the short. 1W is sometimes hard to notice by hand but 3W raging. If you have for example 1ohm resistor and you apply 1V, you will get 1W power loss. with 3 1ohm resistor in parallel you will get 3W of power loss (1V from power supply). You can easily try at home.

      1v 3amp is a good guideline. When you switch on the power, the volts should drop, because it is a short circuit. The amps should go up to the set value, and that will create heat somewhere.

    • @eustacehendrix9659
      @eustacehendrix9659 4 года назад +1

      The fuse he removed was the fuse to the output of the G3H power supply circuit. This isolated the power supply circuit from the output circuit where everything else are. 2 possible outcomes: if the voltage didn't normalize the issue is within the G3H input circuit, but it did which means that the short was on the output side. Notice that the Yellow (+) wire was soldered to the output side of the board fuse connector. This replaced the G3H power circuit (that we now know is good) with the bench power supply for voltage injection.
