My MacBook Pro A1278 started up very slow with progress bar every time. It had random green light (or no light) and not charging when plugged in.I replaced the DCM board then got yellow light, but it never turned green and the board got so hot (but still working, i.e I could browse the Internet). After that charging I shutdown the MacBook and turned on again; battery shows 97% but no light at the charging port, could a faulty SMC fried the new DCM? Thanks
Hi there, i have a mbp min 2012 i5 13 inch. The battery drained overnight as i slept while watching a movie. Plugged in and booted the mac and since then OS is lagging, fan is at top speed all time, kernal task is taking 500 percent energy from cpu. Did the hardware diagnostics by pressing D while booting. It says smc issue. Tried reseting smc thousand times and also did nvram. Instaled a new ssd, downgraded and upgraded diff os versions. Checked the thermal paste on cpu. But even after everything smc issue is popping up. Is there any way to fix the slow lagging os of mine. Smc reset keys are not doing anything.
I have a no powering up issue from water damage. Replaced the logic board. Charging light is orange, does not power on. Disconnect the battery and try to power on from charger, green light but still not powering up. When installing new logic board would I need to reset the smc? However if the keyboard is dead and Im unable to reset the smc by holding shit+control+option+power would that still cause it to not power up?
No you do not need to reset the SMC. I try to always explain how important it is to diagnose before replacing parts. You can have a trackpad/keyboard issue or anything else in the enclosure.
You can’t buy the SMC since it’s controlled by Apple. Also, you’d need a way to program it to work with the new system. Your best bet is to get it from a donor board.
