  • British colonial authorities controlled the hill tribes on Manipur’s peripheries through coercion and ethnic contractors. The policy helped keep the peace, but created problems which have exploded into the ethnic warfare that refuses to die down in Manipur today.

A terrific report. It is usually overlooked that, from a regional tribal point of view, the modern state of India is an empire, successor to the British Raj as the Raj was successor to the Mughals and Marathas, and they in turn successors, on into distant times. An effective Commonwealth must rule by consent, and involve people and communities in a manner to which they consent, and actively endorse.

    Government manufactured nothing.
It's symptoms of caste based reservation, which has no expiry limit, no power to curb it and destined for eternity as it seems now. Just remember the pre EWS era, this is almost exactly how Reserved catagory used to fight against those who were demanding reservation, not even from the pool of SC. But they deed oppose it. Why? Becouse they thought it was a zero sum game and fought a legal battle and lost.
So do not try to be pious. Say it for what it is.
In Caste system, a person born used to get it, he can't be thrown out for most part and he enjoyed the perks of state based on his birth right and there was no end to his entitlement.
Tell me if there is something different about caste based reservation system. Son of SC/ST gets reservation not becouse he needs it or he is oppressed but he born into it. Tell me if there is an expiry date of this reservation to them. This is the Caste system of Modern day India. Every body wants SC / ST reservation just like people wanted to be Brahmins or Rajpoot, but they can't be as they lacked the birth.
When this system goes down, history books will describe this system almost exactly i have! You shall be judged.

A good load of BS, I used to think this channel relied on legit sources and produced them to their audience, You are coming up with Kuki history written by the Kukis themselves, if that is the backbone of the argument or the narrative in this case there are writings by Meiteis of themselves blowing their own trumpets, so tell me which ones will be thought reliable, this is where the foreign sources come in, unlike those that were brought from outside in the mid 19th century into Manipur and rehabilitated under state patronage, Manipuri people and their history finds mention not only in local but foreign sources as well as sources from neighbouring principalities and people groups that have their epigraphs and maintain historical records.
The present day southern districts of Manipur were in accessible to the Valley princes ? LOL
Sometime during 1470-80s C.E. Thangwai Ningthouba ally of Kekhomba had gone and laid seige to Khambat and the territories it controlled punishing the king of Khambat who had abducted Thangwai Ningthouba's daugther who was promised to Pong Prince Kekhomba. Dont take my word for it ask about this incident to the various Tai groups inhabiting India and Northern Myanmar, weh aapko avgad karayenge itihas ki iss ghatna se.
The early half of 18th century saw the rise of the Power that would set the sun on SE Asia's mightiest empire the Taungoo Dynastic Empire, R Brown in his 1873 statistical accounts records that Pahmeiba's reach to the south was upto the watershed that drained to the sea, indicating to Kaptai Lake that drained in Bay of Bengal, Visit Google Maps and look where Kaptai Lake is.
Pamheiba had captured major Burmese cities like Shwebo, Myedu, Sagaing at the banks of Irravady and Chindwin confluence and even Ava or In Wa.
Meitei Historians did not write these, these are recorded in Burmese Glass chronicles, these are recorded in Tai Shan epigraphs, since Pahmeiba had crowned Mongpo and Kyathon in Northern Burma. This is also reflected in the oldest colonial documentation done in NE India the less known RB Pemberton's Eastern Frontier of India 1835, he was a Leiutenant and was one of the British officer that was attached to Maharaja Gambhir Singh's Levy in the war against the Konbaung Burmese AKA the 1st Anglo Burmese war, it was the MANIPURIS who pushed the Burmese out of NE India and by Manipuris I dont mean only the Meiteis.

Ain't the Meitei history is also written by Meitei? And your only source is "go and ask this person" "go and ask that person" to validate your point.

Your Anglo Kuki War ring leaders were kept in Kohima jail and they requested the jailor through a letter to release them and citing the reason that they were mislead by Chingakham Sanajaoba and on top of that they also tried to bribe the sahab by promising mithuns.

We all know that income from Tax in all forms constitutes a major component of the Govt. income, and it’s the source of State and Central spending in brief.
All the Govt. funded benefits/scholarships/exemptions enjoyed by our STs under the Constitution are funded/borne by means of revenue from Taxes. In short, all non-STs are liable to pay tax on their personal incomes, annually, for larger schemes of things taken up for nation building, including social benefits/security measures.
STs in Manipur constitute roughly about 40% of the total state population (half of the population) where it is 8.6% at the country level. Manipur, as we know, has been hugely dependent on Central govt. fundings on most of the fronts, the state is at crucial juncture of making prudent investments in revenue generating areas, so that we don’t end up from turning into a Balkanized regions on ethnic lines & communities. As long as the state remains financially weak, particularly, in the case of Manipur, it remains highly vulnerable to individuals/groups of people with vested interests.
Multiplicity of ethnic communities, and numerous exclusive laws and benefits under the constitution, added with socio-economic imbalances, people are largely gullible to ethnic strife, and mistrust among communities. The outcome of all those constitutional differences is what we are witnessing today. This is also a pointer to the Country in large that certain community based constitutional benefits are reviewed from time to time to maintain the law and order.
The laws and provisions made more than 70 years ago calls for progressive amendments and modifications, and rather than protracting them. The idea is to ensure benefits and provisions to the rightfully deserved sections/communities, rather than creating conflicts and hindrances in the functioning of a state.
When it comes to infrastructural developments in hills, viability of returns is fundamental factor. Without the personal income tax components, it will be difficult to run a initiative with a negative outlook in viability. Govts develops infrastructures/assets to generate revenues and sustain the governance. Increasing the no. of taxpayers, perhaps, it could be a way to ensure uniformity in infrastructural development across the geography.
Given the context of Manipur, it’s hard to rationalize, a top-class officer/minister from ST community being excluded from personal income tax bracket. It's detrimental to the state’s economy, when roads are filled with potholes, state's public water supply and municipal bodies are as good as a defunct due absence of funds for public spending.
Moreover, if the law of a state doesn’t bring a person under the income tax bracket, it leaves a person open to corruption and money laundering.

Meitei are Tai Chinese, Kuki are Burmese.
Manipur, Kamrupa aka undivided Assam, Tripura were Bengali kingdoms invaded and occupied first by the Tai Chinese followed by the Burmese.
NE was liberated from Burma and returned to India by East India Company in 1832 but with majority Chinese and Burmese origin people who have never accepted themselves as Indians and have been taking help from China and Burma to separate from India right after the communists came to power in China.
If the government in New Delhi surreptitiously hides the history of north east and illegally declares Chinese and Burmese origin people as Indian SC, ST, OBC then it is begging for trouble.
SC, ST, OBC status has to be taken away from Chinese and Burmese origin people in NE which is the root cause for the current turmoil in Manipur.

Almost true, the Chin-Kuki-Zo people were never Burmese. They have different culture, customs and religious practices. The Burmese dialect or language is totally alien to the Chin-Kuki-Zo languages. Their land is divided by the British and integrated into India, Myanmar and Bangladesh. This division is done by the British inorder to effectively rule the Chin-Kuki-Zo people. So, the Kuki (which is a name given by the British) are not Burmese but the Zo/Dzou people.
Inorder to prove this, you let the Kuki people listen to Myanmar dialect, nobody will have a clue. But, if you let a Kuki listen to any dialect of the Chin-Kuki-Zo community. They will understand many parts.

Chacha handed over NE to missionaries. This act of Chacha is the cause of the problem, wherein people were converted and a fear and hatred was filled by the missionaries . This fear and hatred will not be solved easily. But it’s necessary that we must strive for achieving peace and prosperity

    • @LoLo-gf3hu

Nope the problem is with meiteis converting to himduism whereby they adopted customs like purity and castes system.(yes this is not the only problem but a significant one)
When they became hindus they began to look at the hill tribes as UNTOUCHABLES, a classic result seen in any sanskritisation process in India
The once similar community began to associate themselves as advanced civilised brahmin peoples
Dont just go blaming the missionaries
The tribals converted willfully but if you look into the case of meiteis, it was their converted hindu RAJA who forced the poeple to follow the faith.

    • @rila_ranglong
      @rila_ranglong Год назад +2

The Meiteis were converted into Hinduism by Santidas Goswami. First Pamheiba alias Garibniwas was converted and later all of them. Now since last few years ago they try to revive their old religion Sanamahi but very unfortunate that they have been assimilated by the Hindus of the then Bengal. So, their culture and traditions are almost the same with the people of Bengal. Even some caste of the Bengali are found in the Meitei high caste, who consider themselves as priests like Sharma, Goswami, etc.
So, they are totally different from many original NE people.

    • @randomice5171

Hinduism comes to Manipur 1 century before Christianity or any missionary. It was here they started having the upper caste and untouchability ideology which never existed before with sanamahi religion. The tribals were later on look down upon and consider lower. This is where the relations between valley and hills slowly degrade and the feeling of inequality exist even to this day. In fact, missionary or Christianity has nothing or less to none to do with what is happening now. Kukis and Christian both being Christian have a bloothbath in 1993. Your hatred for Christian doesn't means you can blames every issues to it.
