There’s an ideal scenario where BEVs fit and that is the consumer:
    1. CHOOSES it (not everyone wants one).
    2. Can afford it (not everyone can).
    3. Has access to electricity: at least to L1 charger; ideally L2 charger connected to a "PowerWall" that is charged by renewables.
    4. Round-trip distance is enough to charge at the above mentioned property.
    5. Driving in stop and go conditions that allows usage of regenerative braking.
The farther away from the above conditions, the more impractical BEVs become. Governments thought that banning ICE would eventually help lead to mass market acceptance of BEVs but it actually did more harm than good. Nothing against BEVs, but just because BEVs works in one country/region doesn't mean it fully works with others or it ever will.

Volvo pulling out of Polestar sends a strong message to the industry. Tesla’s continued reduction in new prices is rendering the Teslas used market worthless which is having an affect across the whole of the market.
A market can not be sustained on such a few adopters which is why manufacturers and charging networks are cutting back on production to stop haemorrhaging money
Ford lost $1b in the last quarter.
Ford has admitted, as manufacturing stands at the moment it makes no money on $30k EV’s. Most people can’t afford a $30k vehicle which will depreciate so much that within 3 years will have no residue value at all.

Whats funny is the CEO is basically describing Tesla’s playbook ! Tesla will come out with the most affordable EV ever made - as they are leading in manufacturing innovations and reducing costs. Charging infrastructure other than Tesla is a joke ! Thats why I can even consider buying anything other than Tesla - as they take their charging infrastructure seriously and understand that this is a key component to consumer confidence in purchasing an EV. Third party chargers are so poorly mismanaged and unreliable it’s NO wonder EV adoption to anything other than Tesla is slowing down. Want to improve EV sales in general - fix the infrastructure issues with more strict policies for uptime / reliability / ease of use and density of availability - then and only then will other EV manufacturers stand a chance against Tesla ( who by the way was a laughing stock of all mainstream auto OEM’s - who is laughing now ! ) Cheers

Most of the world’s population lives outside of big cities and mostly in rented apartments. You probably never leave your little pond, but there are hundreds of millions of people who need to travel more than 300 miles at least once a month or even more often. For them range/charge and charging infrastructure is critical.
People like you tend to believe the whole world lives in a fairy tale situation, in well connected and developed cities, and tend to miss out on reality of the world!

Mr. Tavares is as clueless as anybody on the planet right now talking about the market and EV. Irrespective of Stellantis makes cars or not, let alone an EV, people are still going to move. So this concept called Freedom of Mobility and Clean energy has nothing to do with why cars sell or don't sell. Affordable cars, a big yes. That's where the chinese come into play. All American and European automakers will have to take huge margin cuts to even compete with them.

    Stellantis is screwed.
Theyre a bunch of failed and miserable french automakers, with the scraps of GM's European division and a struggling American carmarker who only makes good petrol engines.
And now theyre trying to pivot everyone to hybrid and EVs and make everyone use the same platform with nothing to distinguish them apart from advertising.
Better to let the company drown. With Chinese EVs starting to produce appealing products, what advantage does Stellantis even have?

  • @corey9313

It’s not out of realm of question at all to think consolidation will come for most automakers. Honda, Stellantis, GM, they all make subpar cars that just aren’t keeping up with the Koreans or let’s say the tech that comes in a Mercedes or BMW, or even Tesla. I would say VW, too, but they own Porsche so they’ll be fine despite VW as a brand sucking. In the end you could absolutely see Toyota, BYD, Tesla, Hyundai and VW as the only ones left. GM is making giant strides to the EV market with value built cars, but I’m not buying a Blazer EV or Cadillac when I can buy an EV6, EV 9 or a good used Tesla. The Ford lightning is great, I love it, but it’s just too expensive

Now the transmissions, those are still terrible lol. Now myself, haven driven a 2018 Kia Soul for awhile, I do agree with you, my next car is probably gonna be a Toyota/Honda/BMW/Infiniti, something that has some quality to it 😄

    • @tonyb3629
      @tonyb3629 2 месяца назад +2

Growth IS slowing, demand IS slowing, even with fleets, and they've been the ones propping up EV sales for the last few years. Private buyer EV sales have crashed in the UK and Europe. EV sales in Germany have fallen 50% since they stopped all subsidies (you can't subsdise something ALL the time). You have to remember that when the early adopters all have theirs (the initial rush), then convincing everyone else is hard. Old saying - you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.
